Yes, our experience echoes ifonly. DD is on a scholarship and bursary and we have a day of celebration followed by a black tie meal in the evening. I’m a bit apprehensive but we are sitting with some lovely parents so hopefully it will be a great end to her time at the school.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 29/06/2019 09:12

Shimy, ifonly4 and errorofjudgement hope you all have a fantastic time at your DC's respective dos.

Maybe just as well that DD just went to a comprehensive. DH loathes black tie dos. I used to go to a lot with work, and after the last one he made me promise him that I would never try to persuade him to go to another one ever again.

I hope everyone had a good time.

ifonly4 · 29/06/2019 10:48

NewModel thank you.

Shimy I hope your DS enjoys tonight and you get some great photos

Sorry derailing, error have you got a long dress? A long dress isn't really me but I've found a lovely dark one with flowers, perfect for the occasion. Looking at last year's photos 25% didn't wear long dresses, so I know that's safe. We've got a day of celebration, awards before the Ball - on Friday.

DD has copied me a chat as it includes something I need to know, and one of her friends is saying she's already so stressed about IB results day. It's a shame as their Leavers Ball is the night before, and those doing IB won't be able to totally enjoy it.

errorofjudgement · 29/06/2019 11:35

NewModel & Tapas thank you!
Ifonly - I’ve had to buy a long dress, definitely not me, plus I do have a couple of mid calf dressy dresses that I’m planning on taking too, if the weather is like today I will NOT be wearing a long dress!!!! 😳
How’s everyone doing in this heat? I’m already wilting ...

TapasForTwo · 29/06/2019 11:43

It is the first really hot day for us, and I am loving it. Power washing the patio as the weather has been too crap until now.

Itscoldouthere · 29/06/2019 12:52

DS2 booked ticket for Tankfest (yes tanks) and DS1 said he’d go and drive them down. They left yesterday and had a long 5 hour drive, they stayed overnight in a B&B, turned up this morning to discover DS2 had booked tickets for Sunday not Saturday! So much for his organisation skills.
Luckily they were kind on the gate and let them in today!

Shimy · 29/06/2019 17:04

This is my worst nightmare! So I’ve travelled all the way up here, long black evening dress, clutch bag etc. All the people I’ve seen are in linen summer dresses. Is this because they’re going to change later on? I bloodywell hope so 😣

errorofjudgement · 29/06/2019 17:28

Noooooo!!!!!!!
How awful, but you will be stand out stunning in your evening wear, and hopefully everyone else will be getting changed too.
Hope you have a great evening!

BringOnTheScience · 29/06/2019 18:02

Better overdressed than under @Shimy Smile Have a wonderful time. Wine

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 29/06/2019 18:37

Shimy you will wow them. Have a fab time :-)

Hello everyone!

Thanks for the new thread, just catching up.

Dd is also a summer born girl.

So she's still not 18, all her friends are... the summer birthday is still causing stress!!!

LillianGish · 29/06/2019 23:21

Has everyone got their finance sorted out? DD just filled in her form so we will wait and see what she gets. Surprisingly easy the end - she'd put off starting because it said you needed an NI number and bank account when in fact you need neither and can add those details later. (Posted on the old thread, but see you’ve all moved over here).

Shimy · 29/06/2019 23:36

Error, Bring and New it all turned out all right in the endSmile. Everyone went and changed into their suits & gowns. Leavers having a blast dancing.

Shimy · 29/06/2019 23:40

@Lilian Yes we have sorted out finance and found it quite straightforward. DS heard within about 2weeks. Hope you hear something soon.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 30/06/2019 09:42

Shimy it sounds like a lovely evening. Hope the young people aren't nursing hangovers this morning. Lovely evening for a soiree.

DD's leavers' do was slightly different - it was a concert in the local concert hall with all Y13 musicians performing. DD was leading the orchestra and got to perform on the concert grand piano- all good.

errorofjudgement · 30/06/2019 17:21

@ElizabethBennett oh wow that sounds very sophisticated! Did they have an after concert party to say goodbye in a more informal way?

LillianGish · 30/06/2019 17:32

We are in Paris and the tradition here is for students to invade the school for the last day before they go off on exam leave. Fancy dress, blasting speakers and a foam cannon in the playground they then rampage through the school disrupting lessons and taking teachers and younger siblings hostage. After a barbecue in the playground they all go back inside and clear up. DD having watched this happen every year since she started at the school had been looking forward to it more and more with every year that passed - a real rite of passage for Lycée students. They followed it up with an evening in a cellar club in the Marais. What surprised me was that this all took place before they had taken their exams - it seemed a bit of a premature celebration, but in a funny sort of way I think it helped to relieve the stress.

TapasForTwo · 30/06/2019 23:22

They have a fancy dress day at DD's old school, a bit of a party then all down to the pub for the afternoon.

ifonly4 · 01/07/2019 10:48

Thanks for sharing your DC's leaving celebration. It's lovely to hear how they're all celebrating, ranging from mad chaotic fun to something classy.

Shimy I hope you had a lovely evening after your initial panic over your dress.

error have a lovely evening. When is i?t We're Friday after a day of prize giving, lunch and general celebration.

Well, DD is on her final week. Last night performed a solo in the leavers platform, later in the week she's in the orchestra and choir for another concert. Week will be spent rehearsing, watching other concerts and shows and lots of time with friends.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 01/07/2019 13:34

Second ifonly4's sentiments. LillianGish your DD's ' blast/rampage at school sounds a bit like DS's school 'muck up day', only don't think his is quite so exciting.

Do any of you feel a sadness at your DC leaving school? Is it just me?

OP posts:
blametheparents · 01/07/2019 13:46

@NewModelArmyMayhem18
It is definitely the end of an era, and DS won't even go back to get results as they come via email.
DS has also just turned 18, so it definitely feels like it's all change here and that we are moving on to a new phase.

As an aside - your name does not come up when I type '@' - is there a setting to turn this off?

ZandathePanda · 01/07/2019 13:55

Dd has definitely outgrown school. Her last day was fancy dress but the Head of 6th form herded them out of school, after a lacklustre assembly, saying there weren’t allowed in the building or grass anymore and not to use the loos. They played a few games on the hard court (but people were getting hurt as it was supposed to be on grass) then went to the pub. Prom this week, for students only at a country house, then after-prom at some pupil’s (with very lenient) parents house, then in the next week several friendship groups going to Greece or Spain whilst its term time and cheaper.
Dd had get me to help her with the can opener earlier. ConfusedGrin She has got the tiniest wrists but still!!

LillianGish · 01/07/2019 13:59

I feel a slight sadness, but this is tempered by the fact that DS still has two years to go. They are both away on holiday with friends at the mo so I am getting a little taste of what life will be like when they both go - flat is immaculate, fridge is full, we have been out to dinner twice, but I do miss them both.
