Just when exam season gets fully underway our previous thread has almost filled up. Everyone welcome Wink.

Is there anything even lesser than a fizzle??

ifonly4 · 11/06/2019 16:53

DD reports RS paper earlier was similar to a practice one they've done in school. However, I]she feels she kept going off on a tangent, positive being she brought it back to the point. Unfortunately, distractions during exams, school forgot to cancel practice fire alarm (and someone in front feeling sick) , so extra time was added.

She admitted she's feeling tired, is starting revision again but it's hard for that final push. She really wants her firm as the course is much better, but is saying if she gets insurance it's where she's meant to be. Firm would suit her for student experience and course, but personally I think insurance would be a fantastic place to be.

Interested to hear your DC's thoughts on today's OCR Chemistry paper. DD said it was okay but is reluctant to think it went half well in case she's seriously flunked it without realising.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 11/06/2019 17:01

A failure to spark????

Hmm... yeah, maybe ... dribble? damp squib? All would describe the end of DS1's schooldays. More of a 'thing' at the school I teach at.

justasking111 · 11/06/2019 17:24

DS went back tonight 5-7pm extra revision the physics teacher is providing. Did not want to go, had three hours of physics this morning, I picked him up at noon, he was told to go through old papers and highlight any struggles he has.

He has had enough was grumpy going back in tonight. Six more days I tell myself then it is all over.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 11/06/2019 17:33

I think it's a great pity not to send them on their way with a bit of ceremony. It's a big thing leaving school, particularly for those who've been at the same one since they were eleven.

Hey ho, upwards and onwards for the last push, although I would say with a paper still to do for all three subjects, DS cannot rest on his laurels for any of the remaining exams.

DS is very, very happy. He thought Chemistry OCR today was great juicy0 as long as you knew your synthetic roots???- which finally clicked for him yesterday afternoon (sigh) (cutting it a bit fine) but don't know what that means as I am arty background! The thing is he now feels that his first choice might be a possibility so lets hope that last couple of exams go ok (fingers crossed).

AWanderingMinstrel · 11/06/2019 17:35

Also others he spoke to also thought the OCR Chemistry today went well.

Laniakea · 11/06/2019 17:41

Yes dd was very happy with chemistry too :) she said it was the best exam she’s had so far. Boundaries will probably be high (but low of paper 1), but that was the one she was most worried about - so pleased it’s done!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 11/06/2019 17:42

DS is very, very happy. That's good to hear AWanderingMinstrel. I haven't got a clue what synthetic roots are either! We want to hear positive stories at this stage.

Re: sending them on their way. Historically they have always had an old boy/girl tie given out. This year it is £150 per student, that is to pay for the old boys/girls association costs to run.

bizzey · 11/06/2019 17:48

justasking111 WTF !! £150 for a tie !

bizzey · 11/06/2019 17:52

Ds has asembly and we think collections of hoodies .
Then BBQ during lunch break on the field.
Then church with parents/careres invited
Then we al go back onto said field for Champagne and strawberries.

I am only going for the strawberries obvs !!

bizzey · 11/06/2019 17:52

Oh and the next day is the prom.

Shimy · 11/06/2019 17:58

DS has reported OCR Computing today was the best paper so far, so we’re pleased. He has leavers ball on 29th of June then speech /term ends on the 30th.

juicy0 · 11/06/2019 19:27

awanderingminstrel I'm pleased it went well and I can reassure my DD that her feeling it was ok is probably shared amongst other people too. She found paper one difficult so it's a relief that today went better!

Itscoldouthere · 11/06/2019 21:37

Ds said chemistry paper today was better than paper 1...... phew
He was rather depressed after paper 1, worried that he’d blown his chance for his place at Birmingham, 3 more exams to go so I’m hoping they go well.

errorofjudgement · 12/06/2019 07:05

Thanks for sharing the last day experiences, seems like quite a variety across the schools!

DDs final exam today!!
Good luck to all the other History students, and all the students with exams this week 🍀

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 12/06/2019 07:06

Just found this six week gym freebie offer for 16-18 year olds which might be of interest to some DC as the exam season comes to an end.

History (American Civil War) last exam here too, errorofjudgement. DS has already set off to do some revision in the library this morning.

bizzey · 12/06/2019 07:48

NewModelArmy thank you so much for that link. Ds is already with a gym but it would be good for ds2.
And i think ds1's gym came up in the link.
They could go together ahhhhh !!

bizzey · 12/06/2019 07:50

Maths today and tomorrow (i think) and then final chemistry next week .

bizzey · 12/06/2019 07:52

Yesterday's chemistry seem to go ok .
Did not finish thr last question.
Trimming has always been his problem.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 12/06/2019 08:02

bizzey that would be great if your DS could go together!

DS is super speedy to the point of carelessness sometimes but he has commented that he's almost run out of time in several of his papers. The papers aren't as long as they used to be (sure three hour papers were the norm when I was doing A Levels) which presumably leaves less 'slack' for finishing and quickly checking over answers?
