Just when exam season gets fully underway our previous thread has almost filled up. Everyone welcome Wink.

DD has final history exam on Wednesday then all her exams are done!
Good luck to everyone this week and beyond ...

LIZS · 10/06/2019 18:06

2 papers of Maths, Bio and French this week. Last German today, yeah!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 10/06/2019 19:14

DS has three exams in 24 hours this week - last geography, history and govt & politics papers in that order, finishing on Thursday afternoon. Thinking he might have taken his foot off the pedal rather revision-wise. Not sure he's keeping up the same momentum of a couple of weeks ago...

Just got him to apply for a couple of casual summer jobs, although he didn't run his completed CV or covering letter by me before emailing them through. He has done some work experience (and volunteered for about six months for DofE) but no 'proper' paid work. For those of you whose DC have applied for summer jobs (but haven't worked before), who have they used as references - long-term family friend in position of authority? A teacher? Would they still have details about him at the place he volunteered (it was September to April of Year 10 when he did it)?

As an aside from talk of exams, we've just had to rescue one of our kittens - she got stuck behind one of the drawers in the sideboard. She got in but couldn't extract herself...

Operation bedroom clear-out is going to be top of the post exams list of 'to dos'. He's supposed to be going on holiday with his mates but it all seems a bit up in the air. Maybe he will focus once Thursday is over and done with.

Hope no-one has experienced any issues getting to/from school with the horrendously heavy rain that's been continuous for the past 18-20 hours. I fear some areas will flood if it continues unabated.

Good luck to everyone's DCs who still have exams. Final push now. My DD went over the AQA 2nd Psychology paper with her teacher today and he agreed it was a pig of a paper so grade boundaries likely to be low. It made her feel better as only she and one other came out thinking it was tough. English tomorrow. Poetry, which she's been revising furiously for the past few days.

justasking111 · 10/06/2019 19:40

Re: physics paper last week, teacher said there was one question he could not answer. That cheered the students up. He has one physics paper left. So double lesson today, double lesson first thing tomorrow, then teacher is going to give them extra time 5-7pm tomorrow. I seem to be running to and from school a lot this week. Roll on a week today when he does last exam.

Laniakea · 10/06/2019 20:32

dd has chemistry tomorrow & biology on Thursday. Two more next week then she's done.

ifonly4 · 11/06/2019 08:21

Good luck with the exams. DD has her first exam a month ago and has worked really hard, but she's starting to make comments like philosophy is quite easy, you can't really revise for music. I'm sure she's still doing far more than some, but is getting easily distracted, ie has has cereal this morning and was then invited to breakfast with the RS group taking their exam today - she wouldn't have done that before. Guess it's a balance of company, time out and revision.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 11/06/2019 08:27

ifonly4 I think once the end is in sight they can be prone to slack off rather. I am convinced DS hasn't been working as hard over the past four days as he has in previous weeks. Mind you, it is difficult keeping up momentum over such a comparatively extended period (I am sure it's five weeks since DS broke up for study leave), and that's without taking into account the revision they were doing from earlier on this year too.

If you think it's hard keeping your DCs motivated....DS has NO exams this week, one exam the week after and one exam the week after that! In theory that's lots of time to revise in, but in practice it's just torture waiting around when everyone else has finished.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 11/06/2019 09:52

zxcv123 oh that's awful. A form of torture. What subjects is your DS doing?

Further Maths are the late exams. He's bored beyond belief even now.

ifonly4 · 11/06/2019 11:02

zwcv123 - what's his last exam? Luckily DD finishes next week, alongside the the last girls in her house (she's private, so still in school) but IB left a while ago.

zxcv123 · 11/06/2019 11:25

The last exam is 24 June. Luckily the school Prom is the following day.

Mustbetimeforachange · 11/06/2019 11:25

Further mechanics is one of the last I believe. Fortunately a lot of DS's friends are also doing FM, but it's a long old slog.

AWanderingMinstrel · 11/06/2019 11:47

DS has Chemistry today (hope its better than Paper 1 last week, although he finds this paper more difficult based on past experience), Maths tomorrow and Friday and then one last Chemistry next week. The end is in sight! Good luck to everyone!

Shimy · 11/06/2019 11:56

Did anyone’s dc do Computing this morning? DS did but has switched his phone off so no idea how it went.

fishonabicycle · 11/06/2019 13:17

F has 3 still to go - sociology, media studies and product/graphic design. He finishes Friday...

errorofjudgement · 11/06/2019 13:42

A question for those with DC at boarding school, do they leave after their exams?
My DD has to stay on until the end of term, as do the Y11 students. I assumed this was standard?

justasking111 · 11/06/2019 13:52

Ours can go home and come back for speech day, unless they are taking part in sports day, they then leave after that. Some do not bother with speech day.

Shimy · 11/06/2019 14:02

@error mine has to stay on till end of term too. He did the same after GCSEs.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 11/06/2019 14:13

Oh a speech day is what I would have expected of DS's traditional school but we've not heard a peep about one. I'm assuming there is nothing to go back for, with the exception of the sports day (optional I'm sure) and the mandatory session for handing over school text books, although I'm not aware they've heard anything about that either yet!

It's a bit strange for it all to just fizzle out without their seven year school careers being celebrated. I guess that's what their leaving dinner was but it would have been better placed after the exams, I would have thought.

errorofjudgement · 11/06/2019 15:00

So a bit of a mixed bag then.
For DD Speech day is on the Saturday after term ends on the Friday followed by drama and dance shows then an evening meal for 6th form and their parents

ifonly4 · 11/06/2019 15:25

error, DD has her last exam on 17 June and is free to be at home after that. However, the last week is an extravaganza of drama, music and she needs to be back hearsals and then music performances, so officially finishes 5 July.

ifonly4 · 11/06/2019 15:27

Oh yes, they have presentations and their Leavers Ball is on 5 July so everything to go back for.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 11/06/2019 15:37

Clearly DS's school career has ended in a fizzle rather than a bang. A pity really. You do only leave school once. Don't the Americans make a big thing of high school graduation?
