Oxbridge Applications 2019 (Part Three) www.mumsnet.com/Talk/higher_education/3474232-Oxbridge-Applications-2019-Part-Three

I see the other thread is full and am unable to find the next instalment (correct me if I'm wrong), so here it is.....

To kick things off, my DS has just firmed Trinity College, Oxford for Law (conditional AAB) and has insured Edinburgh (unconditional). He is Scottish so his qualifications are Highers/Advanced Highers. He achieved AAA in his prelims (mocks) so he's on track (fingers and toes crossed).

He went down to an Offer Holders day last weekend and had an absolute ball and met lots of lovely people. Roll on the next few months.......a small hurdle of exams first, mind.

How are everyone else's DCs doing?

Thanks *OhYouBadBadKitten I am in Canada with DD atm and we are planning to wake up at 3.30 am to check results!

PantTwizzler · 15/08/2019 08:39

DD made her offer and will be heading to Oxford in October. What a relief! Hope everyone else has had good news.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/08/2019 08:50

That's fab Pant congratulations to your dd!
Crossing fingers for you Lililili

zxcv123 · 15/08/2019 08:57

Good news here too. Grin

So relieved.

Lililili · 15/08/2019 09:17

Well done! Well done!
DD got 3A*s and is so relieved! She got a C in one History paper, which she had been really worried about, but everything else brought it up. So she’s checking Cambridge freshers week now!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/08/2019 09:41

That's awesome news!

PantTwizzler · 15/08/2019 09:43

Fab news zx and lil. Well done!

Ontopofthesunset · 15/08/2019 10:54

Delurking to say DS has made his Oxford offer too so much relief here as he apparently has lots of plans that depend on long holidays... Now to the reading list!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/08/2019 11:27

That's great news!

Aurea · 15/08/2019 15:13

Congrats everyone. Fantastic news all round. 😊

DD desperate to get the reading list and other information which will only come in a week. I thought she might relax for a bit! Anyone else’s DC Cambridge?

LIZS · 15/08/2019 20:11

We're out Sad dd missed by one grade, even though she took 4 subjects and only needed 3 for offer, and admissions not flexing. Remarks requested where marking felt to be harsh but 12 ums seems a lot to find.

Gettingthroughtheweek · 15/08/2019 20:21

Sorry to hear that LIZS. Same for DS - dropped two grades (2 UMS on one and 1 on the other). Hoping for some success in remarks but who knows? Bit of an anti climax since he won’t know for definite where he’s going until the remarks come back.

LIZS · 15/08/2019 20:51

@Gettingthroughtheweek sorry to hear you are in same boat. Dd has just picked up a fairly significant anomaly in mark on one Biology paper compared to others which she is querying with school.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/08/2019 20:53

I'm sorry Liz and Getting. I do know that the people I know who didn't quite get there in the end have had a really good year, but it was a tough thing to get their head around to start with. I hope the remarks come back quickly, it's been a really unpredictable year I think.

Sunndowne · 15/08/2019 21:08

Hope it all works out in the end for your DC. Good luck to them.

Congrats to those whose plans are now settled!

New stage for them all. Remember expectations last year. We had family results today. One in. One dropped mark but eventually in on other course. Not oxbridge but close to it.

Sunndowne · 15/08/2019 21:10

Hope remarks are really quick.

NCwithAvocado · 15/08/2019 21:27

@Lililili

DD is going to Cambridge to study history.

Lililili · 15/08/2019 22:22

Definitely go for remarks when they are only a few away. There is nothing to lose then. My daughter had 3 papers remarked in 2 A levels she did early. She very bizarrely had a U (!!) on one paper which made the A level a B overall. The other papers were all A. The remark put her up 18 marks! In her maths papers she went up 4 and 6 marks. One answer hadn’t been marked as it was on extra paper. Now they are both As.

Anyway best of luck in getting a positive result from remarks. I was offered a place at Cambridge and missed my offer, but ended up very happy at Manchester in the end.

NCWithAvocado DD will be studying HSPS. She was also considering History and Politics.

Rianna · 18/08/2019 08:01

I’m sorry to hear some people didn’t get in because of a few lousy marks:-(.
I’m going to read the whole thread now. Congratulations to those who got in ( my son got in btw ).

Rianna · 18/08/2019 08:05

Zxcv: yay!! See you there :-)

Rianna · 18/08/2019 08:48

Ps zxcv my son has been at forums and in groups but has not found someone going to same college yet. Maybe we could encourage them to become active on the FB page? Mine says not much happening there.

zxcv123 · 18/08/2019 10:19

Can you private message me the FB page please? DS is not big into social media but I will try & get him signed up if you know the details. Thanks a lot Smile

For those with confirmed Oxford offers, there is another thread (sorry don't know how to link) 'Oxford offer holders 2019', so please join us there.

Can someone post a link to this please? I can't find it!
