Never phones me

DS is at Uni and never phones me for a chat. I am the one that phones and feel if I don't we would never talk.
The only times he has rang, is in moments of distress due to anxiety and usually because his gf has told him to.

Does anyone have any tips to encourage him to occasionally phone first.

I must be old fashioned, I prefer a phone call to anything

I still ring people on the landline for a chat but I am old.

My DD2 is in 3rd year at uni. I reckon we only actually speak once each semester. She is also terrible at replying to messages. She is young and enjoying life so I don't stress about it. I would be more worried if she felt she had to call me or chat to me often.

God, this is depressing.

I've had 3 dcs at Uni and usually only phone if they need to know how to cook something , need advice re essays or money
I did try once to see how long it would take my dd to phone me first and then got a text saying you never phone me
Eldest dd is now on other side of the world in China and we communicate via WeChat which is amazing...we can text/ talk/ video instantaneously ...something she was loathe to do when at Uni
