Wow that last thread filled up quickly. Well done to your DS, Piggy!

Yes, I know. Late applications are considered for courses that aren't filled by on-time applications (and then Clearing is also worth a shot). But his grades are below the typical grades accepted for the courses he's trying, too.

There are rather a lot of holes in the whole plan, really!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 15/01/2019 12:37

Oh, well fingers crossed that the reference comes in today, ahead of 6pm today then, DitheringDan. Does the referee know there's a deadline?

justasking111 · 15/01/2019 12:38

Son has interview today. The motorway has just had a smash. So they are stuck in traffic. My nerves are shot. As are his.

DitheringDan · 15/01/2019 12:43

She knows the deadline (former teacher) but has difficult family circumstances at the moment - I’m aware that he’s not her greatest priority right now. Nor should he be.

Just asking — hope they make it, and always better to be behind the crash than part of it. Can he get in touch with anyone to let them know he’ll be late?

justasking111 · 15/01/2019 12:49

Thank you for asking, yes he hopefully can get hold of someone and let them know the reason for the delay. He is just behind the smash, first car so hopefully once the police have finished will be able to get moving.

Shimy · 15/01/2019 13:36

Justasking - Hope he manages to get through and the crash isn’t too bad.
Added anxiety to an already anxious situation. Flowers

Witchend · 15/01/2019 14:01

just the chances are it'll effect more than just him, so I'm sure they'll make allowances.

Dd put her last choice in yesterday, Exeter. Full agony over doing it, although she's already pretty much decided it's Durham firm, Southampton insurance, so wasn't quite sure why so much stress.
However it's done now, and just got to see at the offer holder days and hope she doesn't decide she hates them all there.

DitheringDan · 15/01/2019 14:26

Witchend - if she hates them all, she can withdraw, get a job and go round again.

(Preferably not leaving it till 2 years and 362 days later before making her new choice, mind.)

LittleSpace · 15/01/2019 15:56

Is it ok if I stay on this thread? Another place to hyperventilate!

ds got a very unexpected offer from Cambridge but as he has to get through STEP which looks truly awful it is still quite possible he will end up somewhere else.

I'm advising him to go for it, work hard but love his other option just in case. I understand large numbers of people don't get through STEP. 'Into the Valley of Death......'

Witchend · 15/01/2019 16:12

Dithering she won't do that. if nothing else she's going for maths and most places don't like maths to have a year out.

She loved both Durham and Southampton on the open days, so as long as they don't do anything too radical then she'll be happy with one of them. Durham's such a big ask though (A A A) and apparently they're dreadful at making decisions on offers' day, so people can be in limbo for up to a week not knowing if Durham is going to accept them or release them.

LillianGish · 15/01/2019 17:44

Re offer days. Do the universities invite you or do you just have to keep checking the websites?

LittleSpace · 15/01/2019 17:48

They send out invitations.

Piggywaspushed · 15/01/2019 17:59

Lincoln never actually did send theirs ; it is on the website, though.

Danglingmod · 15/01/2019 18:09

Ds had email that went to spam. I assume you can book on though if you are an offer holder without being invited!

Shimy · 15/01/2019 18:18

Some information about offer days was mentioned in the actual offer on UCAS track with a link to click on, so check that as well.

DitheringDan · 15/01/2019 18:26

DS’s academic reference didn’t come through in time, so with 15 minutes to go, he asked his line manager at work to do it. As he says, he now owes the guy a beer!

Well. It’s in. I don’t feel I’m quite as much in the loop as most on this thread, but I’ll lurk on the outskirts if that’s ok.

Shimy · 15/01/2019 18:29

That was some very good quick thinking on his part. Well done to him. The point of the thread is for support and advice, many of us are first timers too, so just get stuck in. Luckily, I think this thread is a bit softer than some others on Wink.

ifonly4 · 15/01/2019 19:16

DitheringDan - you're more than welcome here like the rest of us, no need to lurk on the outskirts. Some DCs have all their offers in, some applied a while ago and still waiting for offers/rejects and others, like your DS have very recent applications. Well done to your DS for quick thinking. Hopefully he'll get some early offers. What's he applied for? You mentioned before, his grades are below what he's applied for. My DD has taken the attitude, most of her choices are quite aspirational but they're what she really wants right now. If she doesn't get the offers or grades, at least she knows she tried for them and she'll review it either at clearing or delay uni until next year.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 15/01/2019 19:26

Well done to your DS for thinking on his feet, DitheringDan.

I'm not convinced I'm going to get DS to any of the offer holders' events -he is not at all keen (and he's very stubborn).

OP posts:
justasking111 · 15/01/2019 19:40

Ours is stubborn. His older brother is taking him. Called him out for being an idiot. They are on the town tonight after an interview.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 15/01/2019 20:02

Unfortunately I've not got the benefit of an older DC to help me out. Hope your DS enjoys his visit justaking111 - where did he go?

OP posts:
justasking111 · 15/01/2019 21:09

Newmodel, he has found retail heaven lol

Offer holding days for NTU and Essex booked.
Offer received from UEA.
Stage 5 interview for JP Morgan for a DA tomorrow.
3 online tests for other DA's happening over the next few days.
Waiting to hear from Loughborough and Cardiff. DS is quite laid back, mum is very stressed. WineWineWine

Bettydaviseyes · 15/01/2019 22:51

I've never heard of offer holding days. Are they obligatory?

Dds school sent off her application yesterday so now we just wait. How soon can we expect offers?

Three of her choices were Russell group but she's unsure of her predicted grades apart from English, so I've no idea what chance she has.

MarchingFrogs · 16/01/2019 01:20

@justasking111, if that's where I think it is, that mall isn't the only section of retail heaven in town? DD and I had a lovely meal at Comptoir Libonais the evening before the university open day we attended back in September.
