old thread

A chat/support thread for parents of undergrads who have entered the quite frankly slightly odd world of Oxbridge. Grin

Apparently we are parents to undergrads now Confused

Hope none of us need a thread but it's so nice to share experiences. I really hope we do.
Awww. All those students finding out this morning. Track seemed to be open earlier than last year.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/08/2019 23:20

I think we should have a new thread :) dd has been mulling over which courses to choose and is struggling to know what to drop. She has far too many she wants to do.

I definitely had flashbacks last night to waiting for dds step results. She was staying at a friends and at first couldn't remember her password through nerves. I was awake waiting anxiously. I'm pleased for those who are happy today, but know also it works out in the end for those who didn't get what they were hoping for.

Holidays are going really well. It's lovely to have dd around.

Good to hear hols are going well Kitten. Good luck to your DD with choosing options.
DD returned safely from her trip just over a week ago Grin. She slept for three days, checked her results for Prelims, chose her options for next year and has now driven down to Cornwall for a week of surfing with home friends. She has a statistics project to complete and Collections revision to do in September!
She goes back on Oct 6th. Her accommodation isn't particularly close to College but has lots of plus points: lovely, leafy riverside location, an en suite, good kitchen facilities and a dining hall for evening meals. She will still have lunch in College which is close to lectures and labs.

HesMyLobster · 16/08/2019 11:07

DD doesn't start back until October 16th!
She gets the keys to her house on Monday though so she and the girls she'll be living with are going down for a few days to start the moving in process - she's ridiculously excited!
I'm just excited not to have to take everything at once, and - more importantly - not to have to move out at Christmas and Easter! Grin
I feel like I've hardly seen her so far this summer - she was away for her internship, then we went on holiday then she went on holiday. . . She's back now though and it'll be nice to spend some time with her (when I can prise her away from the books!) Smile
Hope the rest of your dc are having a lovely summer.

Sunndowne · 16/08/2019 12:06

I feel the same lobster have and will hardly see DD this summer. But I'm glad for her, even on her PS it said she wants to study and travel and she's certainly doing both, so realising her dreams. How nice that your DD is having such a fun time.

Your DDs accommodation sounds lovely often and how nice she's home safely. Waiting on that myself.

And how good kitten that your DD loves all her options, so good she enjoys her course. Lucky you that you get to see a lot of her all summer.

Would it be a good idea to include Freshers and Year 2 Oxbridge DPs on a new thread? Might be helpful and more of a party. 🙂

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/08/2019 14:33

What do you envision Sunndowne? Do you mean a combined Oxbridge thread with parents of new starters?

OP posts:
Sunndowne · 18/08/2019 15:56

Yes. Thought it might be nice. But if our freshers going into Year 2 mums prefer to keep it just our year group then fine. Just thought it would be helpful to new mums and would keep our thread lively. But only a suggestion. Happy either way. Just want a thread

😀x

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/08/2019 17:53

Maybe we could keep our thread as it is (but obviously a new one) but also start a 'any day to day questions about oxbridge that a random bunch of parents might know' thread? It might not be as frictionless as this group, there are a few personality clashes Grin

I think there is already a thread for the newbie freshers.

Sunndowne · 18/08/2019 17:59

Sounds good. X

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/08/2019 18:50

I'm a bit scared to start the questions thread in case it turns into a disaster Grin

@OhYouBadBadKitten is there a thread for 2019 freshers - I've been looking but can't find it!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/08/2019 19:05

It seems to be www.mumsnet.com/Talk/higher_education/3536678-oxbridge-applications-part-four
which was started in March, hence the non obvious thread title.

@OhYouBadBadKitten thank you! No clue how I missed that.......

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/08/2019 19:31

no probs Grin

Sunndowne · 18/08/2019 20:03

Maybe just a thread for us Yr2 mums then with offer of being welcome to those who can't find another thread. Smile
Oooh some didn't get on this year! Missed that. Just think it's unbelievably stressful aiming so high, bound to make people sensitive and prickly! Gosh, I'm glad application stage is over.

Sunndowne · 18/08/2019 20:51

You have been so good at keeping us going with threads kitten please do set us up with something new , just as you like. They always worked well before.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/08/2019 08:37
