old thread

A chat/support thread for parents of undergrads who have entered the quite frankly slightly odd world of Oxbridge. Grin

She will be glad of a rest and a chance to catch up with herself I reckon.

Last essay being done. Mtg with tutor next week for overall feedback. Out tonight at charity formal in another college and it's freezing travelling back.

How's it all going?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/11/2018 22:29

I can't believe term is nearly over. Shock one more week of lectures. Seems that they have Christmas next week.

Bridgemas, or (I think) oxmas at the other placeGrin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/11/2018 09:42

Bridgemas Grin
What happens? i've got ideas of a Hogwarts type feast with food magically appearing (poor house elves)

I think DS for 'Bridgemas' has a secret Santa for the staircase, and they have clubbed together for a present for the bedder. Also think there is a special formal hall, but that might not be on 25th.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/11/2018 13:21

I'm not sure whether it's an official thing ... may just be xmassy things a month early. DD said her house is hosting an Xmas dinner on the 26th, for about 10 people. I inquired if they have enough chairs ...er, garden chairs, sofa, floor...Grin

Sunndowne · 23/11/2018 14:12

My DD has a Christmas formal and Carol concert. Says lights in town look lovely.

HingleMcCringleberry · 23/11/2018 14:23

Don't forget to stock up on all the drugs for when they come home - Lemsip Max Strength etc. The first term is so full on, when you get home and release that valve, your body basically falls apart. Expect a few duvet days when they first return to earth!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/11/2018 15:28

thanks for the heads up Hingle.

'Tis the season to be germy, fa la la la la la laaaah.

Haha OYBBK Grin

DD hasn't factored in any duvet days but instead has planned a grand tour to visit friends at other unis Hmm.

Oxmas at DD's college began last weekend with "Carols in the Quad" with mince pies and mulled wine and this weekend there is a Christmas formal. DD mentioned a ball too but I don't think it is at her college.

Sunndowne · 23/11/2018 18:21

My DD is also off to visit friends at other unis. Will encourage a few duvet days though - good ideaWink

Chrisbridge/ oxmas: sounds so much fun. Takes me back 30 odd years!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/11/2018 15:20

dd will he visiting friends too. I reckon other uni towns are going to be quite an eye opener compared to her very sedate life she has.

DD has gone v quiet. I am uneasy.

Sunndowne · 25/11/2018 16:06

That's hard Roses. Let's hope she's busy with all that comes with Oxbridge and hasn't time to call/text.

PandaG · 25/11/2018 16:26

Yes Roses, hope she is busy and ok.
Spoke to DS yesterday, via video message. He looks knackered! I think he is pretty much keeping up with the workload, but getting nearer and nearer to not making his deadlines as term goes on. He has a 5 pm Friday hand in, then we pick him up Sat am. He has posted photos online of paper chain and snowflake production, and his staircase decorated with said items. Glad they can still enjoy simple pleasures at university!

OhTheRoses · 25/11/2018 17:05

She's fine. Had knocked phone onto silent. Work up to date. Says it's harder than A'Levels but given in a more orderly way. Has exams in January and says will be working hard in hols. Has £200 left.

Sunndowne · 25/11/2018 18:08

Great news. She's thrifty!! My DD just bought pink trainers with monies left!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/11/2018 18:34

That's a relief Roses!

Friday 5pm hand in Panda? That's tough. dd finishes Wednesday lunch time then has a couple of days to chill before we pick her up.

OP posts:
OhTheRoses · 25/11/2018 18:47

Feeling a bit mean I can't collect dd until the Sunday. But I've got her bedroom all ready and neat as a pin with her favourite covers and pretty kitty on her pillow and a huge pile of clothes waiting for agreement to go to dump

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/11/2018 18:50

It's not mean, it's a good idea to let them just enjoy being at their college, being able to sleep in and just chill. They also need time to pack.

Sunndowne · 25/11/2018 20:09

My DD's test and supervision happen Tuesday. But term feedback is on Friday.
DD is looking forward to a few days pottering about. We pick her up Monday evening after interviews.
