Mine is online on skype but has NOT replied to my message.
Pffffff.

SoupDragon · 25/09/2017 22:26

I hope DS doesn't sign up for pole dancing :)

highonpanic · 25/09/2017 22:59

Mine sounded rather flat on the phone. They had two lectures, one was easy as it was an intro to the subject for people without an a level in it and the other was maths and do was harder.

Rights and Sparkling, I hope you hear something soon.

We've had tears here today.

QOD · 25/09/2017 23:18

I just miss her 😢

Nows when I wished I parented like my sister

‘Yeah I doubt they’re interested in uni ‘

RedHelenB · 25/09/2017 23:20

Soupdragon -maybe they 'll be more extreme!

Wine to all our freshers!

Needmoresleep · 25/09/2017 23:35

Mine was lovely on the phone. A bit tired and perhaps missing the familiar, but still having a great time. She had a pretty full on day, including three hours of anatomy...with real bits of humanShock which apparently was seriously interesting. She thinks she has made one of the University sports teams, which comes with quite a lot of training (which she does not mind), and a big introductory social on Wednesday.

There was a fair amount of noise. Apparently the flat next door have had a party every night. They have already been fined. DD is hoping they will run out of money. So tired but happy that she is in the right place, studying the right subject.

No pole dancing though. But a promise that she will come home in a few weeks time.

BackforGood · 25/09/2017 23:59

I'm getting contact, but it is mainly "How do I wash......." Grin

Still, at least I know she is alive and being pretty active.

HSMMaCM · 26/09/2017 05:11

My contact yesterday "can you bring your sewing kit when you come?" Grin

They've just gone, early to avoid traffic. DD was 'talking' to a pal doing freshers somewhere who hadn't gone to bed yet ...

A few tears when she said goodbye to the dog, which is as it should be.

BestIsWest · 26/09/2017 06:01

Yes, DS got most emotional saying bye to the dogs Errol

bigTillyMint · 26/09/2017 07:08

Oh God NMS, DD's flat are planning a flat party for Fri night - I hope they don't get fined!

HSM, she's not sure if she has got the right lectures on her timetable - hence why she was baffledGrin How lovely your DD is growing in confidence. I think they all will be, even if they seem to be struggling.

highonpanic · 26/09/2017 07:09

Errol - it was the same here, we were ok to stay at home but the furry creature was deemed to be a therapy animal and so would have to go with them.

I don't think there has ever been a therapy rat before.

SoupDragon · 26/09/2017 07:12

I don't think mine even said goodbye to the dog!

I don't mis him, oddly enough. I know where he is and I know he's doing what he wants to do and I know he'll have a blast doing it. He will never really be away as I have like a spiders web of attachments to wherever my family are if that makes sense.

My main job as a parent is done and I'm proud of the young man I turned out!

SoupDragon · 26/09/2017 07:13

So tired but happy that she is in the right place, studying the right subject.

You couldn't hope for more really could you? :)

JugglingFromHereToThere · 26/09/2017 07:33

Yes, I feel a bit of that kind of pride Soup and for me almost some relief mixed with it. I managed, with a lot of support from others like you lovely lot and in RL, to get her to this point, and it's a pretty good place to be. Like you say hopefully pretty much at the right place doing something she might love, and with a lot of personal qualities to bring to the challenge of adulting out there in the big, bad world.

On the drive home I thought briefly of the image from the poem about the archer ...... something like "As he loves the arrow that flies, so also he lives the bow that is stable"
Lots of arrows being fired off over these last few weeks!

Not just proud, but grateful too, for the opportunities she has, and for some kind of grace and the support that got us here.

Thinking of you and DD today Errol, exciting times - good idea to set off early 😊 And any others heading off today.

GetAHaircutCarl · 26/09/2017 07:54

DD has had a lovely first few days.

Her flat mates seem lovely and she has posted several photos on our family WhatsApp.

They went out to a club night on Sunday together but she still managed to get to her workshop on Monday morning Grin.

Her fellow RADA students are a good bunch too apparently and super talented. One remembered her from the fourth round and gave her a huge hug.

DS is now raring to go. He has some mates still left and they're going shopping today Confused. Tee shirts need to be found I understand.

LittleHo · 26/09/2017 07:57

Glad she is enjoying RADA.

We are getting earplugs today just in case. She can't wait to go next weekend.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 26/09/2017 08:07

Wow Carl ....... RADA! Super impressive!
Glad she is loving it!
I bet they are a talented group!

Just had another little message exchange with DD - early start today for tour and talk at the library.
Hope she will make the most of the library, she loves reading 😊

Auntpetunia2015 · 26/09/2017 08:24

Glad everyone seems to be settling DS is still happy with everything had lecturers yesterday till 6! He sounded shattered when he called me. He's still got a problem with his computer so he's hoping to get that fixed today. Whilst it was lovely to see him on Sunday I do think it was too soon after he left and I'm scared his lack of support in the flat ...they don't open their doors or speak if they see you. DS is in the room next to the kitchen with his door open so every time one of them goes past he says hi! He's a contrary bugger like that and will break them down. But the good news is the course people are "chill". The lecturers are either "chill" or "boring " and he's having a great time.

GetAHaircutCarl · 26/09/2017 08:24

Thank you.

DD is very lucky to have got a place at RADA. But there are downsides of course. A very small year group (under 30), a wide age range (DD is the youngest), and no common place to live/socialise.

One of the reasons she wanted to go in halls was to alleviate some of those issues. It's an intercollegiate hall, but most seem to be from UCL she thinks. A ridiculous expense as we have a flat so close by, but hey hoGrin.

Eve · 26/09/2017 08:54

finally DS has started to pack!! and give me more washing ! house looks like a Chinese laundry with clothes drying everywhere!

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 26/09/2017 08:57

DD is very lucky to have got a place at RADA.

I doubt its luck Grin

Blanche17 · 26/09/2017 08:57

Getting a place at RADA is incredible, don't they get 1000s of applications for 25 places? It makes Oxbridge seem easy by comparison! Congratulations to your DD, glad she is enjoying it.

I'm a late mumsnet joiner, currently feeling fairly bereft having dropped off DD1 for her first year in central London at the weekend. Her hall of residence is incredibly basic and smells of sweaty feet despite costing nearly as much as the tuition fees. How can they charge so much for such awful accommodation.

She has already been clubbing and to a party so seems to be enjoying herself. I just hope she made it to her first lecture on time!

Oldie2017 · 26/09/2017 09:16

Blanche, it is very expensive. If my twins in Bristol are charged not that much under £8k each for £16k even in London you could rent a really nice place. My daughter's flat lets at about that - she lets it out and that's in London fairly central zone 2 or something like that. That is one bed though so you would need twins or a lover to bring it down to the £8k each cost I suppose or use the living room to sleep in. It would still be much bigger and nicer than most student hall (except my son in his massive room in Bristol who seems to have been incredibly lucky).

We are not getting much news from the twins. One gave his sister a student code on her request last night (that is probably not legal,... ooops) so he is obviously alive. I have promised to call only once a week which is what I did with my parents at university although I am happy to talk to him more often if he wants to. In a sense the privacy and being away from parents and parents not knowing what you do and chance to remake yourself however you like without having to recount how things are going to parents is a huge and important part of university and I am happy to respect that.

GetAHaircutCarl · 26/09/2017 09:19

The odds are something like that blanche.

TBF, DD didn't make the first cut after the fourth round of auditions, but was pooled. She got an offer after someone dropped out.

Still very proud obviously Grin.
