Are they carrying on with the course Lineys? Or given it all up?

We live near enough for DS1 to commute to Uni if living away doesn't work out but don't know if he would be keen.

LineysRun · 25/09/2017 17:57

Hey, Sparkling. Yes, apparently the student will be trying to commute. But the expense - eye watering.

The halls (private) won't let the student out of contract unless the company can fill the room, and - to be blunt - there's no massive incentive while there's a parent guarantor.

I have nightmares about this stuff.

bigTillyMint · 25/09/2017 18:02

dingit, Love Island party sounds interesting!

Lineys, sorry to hear that some are dropping out - it is a difficult time for them, even if they are party animals and getting on well with their flat-mates.

I came into DD face-timing with DS, so have had a chat with her again today about what food to try making, how to get advice about her course (she is baffled by her timetable, though I'm not sure why!) and general waffle. She says she hasn't met anyone on her course yet, though she has had 2 lectures today ConfusedGrin

HSMMaCM · 25/09/2017 18:02

I'm confused too. Why do I feel sad that there are no hairs in my hairbrush, no clothes on the floor, no deadly slick of conditioner in the bottom of the shower, etc ? Grin

DD seems fairly happy so far. She finds transitions extremely hard, so it's a great relief. Hopefully she will stay happy when all the real work starts.

HSMMaCM · 25/09/2017 18:03

BTM did she go to lectures in the right subject? Grin

LOL @ walking bus :)

I've heard nothing from DS. Even though I sent him a text to let him know GiffGaff have increased his data by 1GB from next week. I was hoping for a response. Dammit!

Doobydoo · 25/09/2017 18:10

Ds is sharing a flat with 3 girls! He has gone from an all boys grammar to thisGrin
He was a bit down last night i think as the girls went on sat n him on sun.and they went out to a club and tickets sold out. I said theyve only known each other 24 hours and he will meet people on course and societies. He is going to a UV party tomortow night with them i think. I hope he is going to be ok....i keep worrying about things like him crossing the road which dp pointed out he has been doing for yearsBlush I just want everyone to be kind to him.

BestIsWest · 25/09/2017 18:13

I was working in DS city today and his halls are close to John Lewis. I wandered through there lunchtime and just happened to text him to see what he was up to in the hope he'd ask the same not stalking him honestly I wanted to leave it up to him on whether he wanted to meet up.

We had a cuppa in JL and then he was going busking - this is a new one.

He seems to be fine, is not enjoying cooking but is surviving. First full day of lectures tomorrow with 11 am to 7pm

OrlandaFuriosa · 25/09/2017 18:16

Don't worry about the floordrobe: as soon as there is a chance of a GF it will be hidden from sight and with any luck a GF asking " what's that funny smell?" will deal with the festering problem. Or such is my experience with other young men..

Mind you, am in two minds: do I say categorically I am not coming up to see you just to be given dirty laundry, or pass over the issue on the basis that he would deliberately do that if I mentioned it? I think the latter course..

Eve · 25/09/2017 18:16

DS requested roast tonight for dinner with yorkshires and all trimmings and his fav pasta tomorrow night.

DS2 (15) give him his leaving present - a piece of paper with a condom on it ( only not an actual condom - just the word as he couldn't get a real condom) with the words ' in case of miracle break here' to put into a frame!!!

DH and DS 1 rolling laughing - I'm having words with DS2!!

ErrolTheDragon · 25/09/2017 18:22

DH and DD are off tomorrow so I'm just about to serve roasties and beef too.

Most of her stuff is now in my car - it wouldn't fit in DH's. Not only is her floor clear but she's vacuumed it.ShockGrin

JugglingFromHereToThere · 25/09/2017 18:28

Ooh, roast dinners sound good! Clean rooms sound amazing - didn't happen here!

JugglingFromHereToThere · 25/09/2017 18:29

Not quite a condom present sounds hilarious Eve 😀

MorvahRising · 25/09/2017 19:06

Thank you to everyone who gave me a boost when I posted earlier about DS on his own at the waffle and ice cream do! He did end up chatting and enjoying it (very proud of him for taking the bull by the horns) and tonight one of the girls in his flat has organised a flat supper so that should end the day on a good note.

Nydj I haven't heard about a picnic, sounds fun and I hope your DS goes after your gentle suggestion. It's difficult sometimes to suggest things without them immediately deciding to do the opposite - at least that's what I find sometimes with DS!

stonecircle I also have my doubts about the teeny key fob.

Abra1d happy birthday to your DD! It will be strange not celebrating with her so I hope you have some Wine yourself to toast her with.

BestIsWest a hall very close to John Lewis sounds wonderful . . . .

Hope tomorrow goes well, Errol and the next day Eve. It was quite funny when we got near Southampton with our car loaded up and could spot other cars packed to the ceiling with IKEA bags and clothes airers and collapsible boxes.

HSMMaCM · 25/09/2017 19:17

We asked DD who she went out with last night. "One of my house mates and the next door neighbours".

I can hardly believe this is the same girl who couldn't face any new situations, or new people.

Lovely when they suddenly just blossom. HSM

RedHelenB · 25/09/2017 20:05

Well dds just rung and has certainly been busy. She managed to lose her driving license first evening but has got it back a bit battered! Just as well cos she needs it for her dbs check !

Joined 2 societies poker and pole dancing! I suppose that's two ways to supplement her loan!!!!

Abra1d · 25/09/2017 20:05

Morvah good plan!

HSMMaCM · 25/09/2017 20:08

Poker and pole dancing Grin

OP posts:
RedHelenB · 25/09/2017 20:23

That was my first reaction too but a friend of hers at work does pole dancing and apparently it's a fun way to stay limbered .She's danced practically all her life!

HSMMaCM · 25/09/2017 20:30

Ah. That makes more sense. It is really good for Strength and flexibility

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 25/09/2017 20:40

DS1 has gone quiet. Could mean anything. Sad

But don't want to ring/text him if he's doing ok and make him sad!

He's been to the Glitter Ball and tried out for the footy team.

ErrolTheDragon · 25/09/2017 21:26

That makes me I wonder how much of freshers could be expressed via MN emoticons...FootballGlitterball. Grin
