DD is now moaning that the halls she really really wanted and nothing else would do are further away from the lecture rooms than she thought !

Tough luck honey Grin. I suggested an umbrella would help.

Worth checking if you Student dcs qualify for any bursaries or scholarships

My ds has a £2k scholarship just for choosing Dundee and coming from outside Scotland!

Hi stoney and Tawny my DS heading for Southampton too. Got his accomodation offer today at Archers Road. I'm getting really nervous! He's doing maths.

Stopyour, did you have to apply for scholarships or did they automatically get awarded? Looking at the link you posted my DS could get a 2K scholarship for getting ABB or above or equivalent, he got Triple Distinction BTec.

Stopyourhavering · 22/08/2017 21:56

Mytime he got it automatically as he's a Welsh student studying in Scotland! Grin

For those of you who will struggle for space in the car or if your DCs will be arriving at uni by train, most universities offer bedding packs for sale. We ordered one for DD2 last year as there were 4 of us in the car. Saved us having to transport quilt, pillows, sheet, duvet cover (bit of a naff stripy design).

Thanks stopyour, mines Welsh student studying in Wales! Only 1hour from home though so I'm hoping I'll see him regularly.

My twins got their (separate) Bristol first choice halls (although one hasn't got the en suite or even wash basin he wanted in the room but that is not a major thing really).

DS has ordered (and paid for!) the bedding pack and some kitchen supplies so they are ready and waiting. I think it's the way to go when you've got a tiny car like us which will have four people in it! I've got no idea how we are going to get everything there otherwise.

humblesims DSis off to Southampton too, studying Computer Science, and we have also been offered Archers Road, wasn't his first choice but I think he is happy with it. It is all beginning to feel real now!

I dont want him to go Sad

Im going to miss him so much (til i get used to it)

He has got a little parttime job delivering pizza while he waits to go...i have pointed out that doing that for a living and staying at home for ever is a perfectly vaild option

On a lighter note i am trying to put together a silly little gift box with some of his favorite food etc in it

Anyone doing similar...any ideas

DD (and another friend who is off to uni) is having a cooking lesson from an older friend who moved out a couple of years ago.

They are making chicken parcels with dauphinoise potatoes and asparagus Grin.

My DD has done a bit of cooking since the end of exams. I got her The Vegetarian Student Cookbook, because although she eats meat she won't contemplate handling it raw.

I need to dig out the old pans I kept after we got an induction hob (assuming the college doesn't have those too).

OddBoots · 23/08/2017 16:55

Errol, my ds has just informed me that his halls have induction hobs, I imagine that is unusual though.

My DD is practicing her cooking by making a vegetarian chilli and testing it out on her meat loving boyfriend!

My daughter cooked dinner three nights in a row and collapsed exhausted, saying she couldn't possibly be expected to do it every night, it was asking too much of a person.

Oh how I laughed.

DD has got the hall she wanted, though not the en suite, nor indeed a basin. I wonder if she is in the same place as Lucy's DS.

My poor exploited twins have cooked their own meals for about 4 years entirely alone as I don't cook for them (although they have gone for half board halls so will probably do much less cooking than now once away).

With my older children we just had two of us in the front seat and all the back and boot for stuff so it fitted in. With the twins I am going to take one car load and one of them will drive the other car with more stuff and then although it's not advised they will be keep one car there.

I don't think there are many cooking facilities at their halls - just a microwave and fridge.

Have spent some time today buying uni stuff for DS, had a wisdom tooth removed and now have to go and visit posh sister-in-laws' new house. The jury is out on which is the most painful.

Anyone know how vital it is to a) book an accommodation arrival slot and b) actually turn up within the time allocated???

We can only deliver ds on the Saturday at the start of intro week but apparently his accommodation contract starts on the Sunday (despite the website saying most people arrive on the Saturday and sunday). DS is panicking about booking a hotel. I am convinced that if we just turn up on the Saturday with three thousand other students and their families they wont turn him away.

Give them a call Haffdonga? I'm sure they'll be able to sort something out for you.

Yup. DS was going to call them as he's supposedly an adult but apparently he was too tired today Hmm and is moaning at me instead because it's all my fault.
