On Santander - i agree - do nothing to disturb the existing account if that is with student finance . If necessatry open a second account - perhaps even with a second bank and have that as the student account and keep the other for student finance and move money between the two but don't let them close the one that is already set up in case that makes it even more of a mess.

Mine going on Friday did packing today. We went room to room through the house and it's mostly all in boxes etc in the hall with a few small items to add in the next few days - he hopes to restring a guitar before going although as he's out all day tomorrow with his twin I am not sure when. He went to this at a cinema with his older brother which his brother says was really good www.rollingstone.com/music/news/david-gilmour-plots-live-at-pompeii-film-one-night-only-screening-w485010

Thanks all. Oldie, David Gilmour was great last night, we took DD2 (who is a guitarist) and we all really enjoyed it.

Oldie2017 · 14/09/2017 09:38

My older son said it was really good. They both enjoyed it. Too much going on here now including my work.... twins out to the theme park and (..... the second grandchild has arrived today this morning...much more exciting than university - whether we can visit tonight before the boys starting going to university tomorrow I need to leave to the parents, although it would be rather nice even if only a 5 minute visit).

Abra1d · 14/09/2017 09:55

Congratulations on the new grandchild, Oldie!

Oldie2017 · 14/09/2017 10:02

Thank you. I am so relieved all is well. Twins promised to leave theme park at 4 so we can visit baby if is okay with the parents and hospital. So I had better concentrate on work but it's the last thing I want to think about at the moment.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 14/09/2017 10:14

Congratulations oldie

unfortunateevents · 14/09/2017 10:43

Aww, that's brilliant news Oldie! and yes, important as the uni departures are for all of us, all put into perspective by the miracle of a new baby!

Horsemad · 14/09/2017 10:44

Congratulations on the new grandchild Oldie

GetAHaircutCarl · 14/09/2017 11:23

A new baby in the family. How fab!!!!

Oldie2017 · 14/09/2017 12:22

Thank you. We are going to see it (I won't disclose the sex) later on today which is nice as it means the twins can see it before they leave for university. I hope both parents get some sleep during today until then as it must have been an exhausting night.

BehindTheBlueDoor · 14/09/2017 13:22

A new baby, how wonderful. Puts it all into perspective. Many congratulations to all.

HSMMaCM · 14/09/2017 13:38

Congratulations on the baby.

DD has invited me to her work for a birthday dinner tomorrow. She works in a food establishment obviously. It'll be weird seeing her at work. We haven't been allowed so far.

They've agreed to keep her job for her to come back to at Christmas. She declined a transfer to Bath.

bigTillyMint · 14/09/2017 14:14

Congrats Oldie. How lovely Smile

HSM, thats good - they must rate her!

Oldie2017 · 14/09/2017 14:16

I just bought a card and few presents. The glorious fruit bowl I had in mind has ended up being some bog standard fruit but as everyone has every low expectations of my presents (I am not into things) I doubt it will matter.

Yes, it's interesting seeing them at work as they get older. I have tended not to go in so as not to embarrass them. Child 5 delivered a deliveroo meal the other night and it was to his favourite economics teacher - quite a conicidence.

ErrolTheDragon · 14/09/2017 14:34

Congratulations! Isn't the only important criterion for food gifts for new parents that its something they can prepare and stuff in one handed? Grin

TheMightyMing · 14/09/2017 15:17

Congrats oldie such lovely news!

Well we've dragged all the stuff out of the loft (DH and I ) and bagged it sensibly ( DS room is in third floor no bloody lift)!

I'm washing everything in sight , I've done a mini food shop of fresh stuff to supplement the plethora of tins I'd already stashed.

Just need a few more bits for the room, it's a bit grim imho so I'm looking for nice bits to jazz it up! Small red rug on list but I'm struggling to find one as I don't want to pay much! No pictures allowed on the wall which is a shame as I've a lovely Manchester bee framed print , which was to remind him of home :(

Nearly done now!

Both DH and I took the week off to 'spend time' with DS, we've hardly seen him though , he's been doing the rounds of his friends catching up and saying goodbye , plus his girlfriend who is going to the other end of the country :(

BestIsWest · 14/09/2017 17:05

I took yesterday off to spend with DS and we went to see 'It' and to Nando's for tea. Bought a few last minute bits and pieces but the packing is up to him now as I won't be home until 7ish tonight and tomorrow.

Congratulations on the new grandchild. How lovely.

MorvahRising · 14/09/2017 18:09

Congratulations Oldie!

TheMightyMing we chose this rug in blue - very cheap as I figured it would probably get a lot of wear. It's just for beside the bed and the smallest size is only £9.99.

Horsemad · 14/09/2017 18:13

Ooh, might order one myself for my DS. That looks just right.

Fairenuff · 14/09/2017 18:35

Hi all. I've not been on here for ages but am sat in my living room surrounded by boxes and bags of stuff. Ds leaves tomorrow and it suddenly occurred to us that we have no idea whether or not he needs a tv licence. Does anyone know?

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 14/09/2017 18:36

Yes he does

If he wants to watch the bbc

ErrolTheDragon · 14/09/2017 18:41

That came up either on this thread or a similar one ... it depends on what he watches, and on whether he has the device he's watching on plugged into the mains (due to the portable tv in a caravan exemption). If you google 'does student need tv license' I think you should be able to find the info.

Fairenuff · 14/09/2017 18:42

Thanks Rufus. He doesn't have a tv, just his laptop and does not intend to watch BBC iplayer, just youtube and stuff. Do you know if he still needs one for that?

Fairenuff · 14/09/2017 18:44

X post Errol. From what I can gather, as long as he doesn't watch iplayer and doesn't have the device plugged in when he watches anything else, then he doesn't need a licence. Is that it?

ErrolTheDragon · 14/09/2017 18:45

I don't think so (DD similar, and DH who is a reader of fine print said she shouldn't need one) but you should find the info and get him to read it so he understands the somewhat odd conditions.
