(Weird. Totally irrelevant but I had typed my sons' friends got three A stars but it came out typed differently with bold - must be some kind of code).

No list of things made here by my twins but one did register for Bristol yesterday (the earliest date) as he is flying abroad this lunch time on a trip. He says he has done everything he has to do by this date so that sounds good.

AtiaoftheJulii · 05/09/2017 10:21

Oldie, if you put stars round things here it bolds them! How have you been here this long and not learnt that Grin

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 05/09/2017 13:19

Just bought a duvet set for ds1 and we are all done Grin

DS and I spent a long time last night trying to open a new current account online. Spent ages doing all the fiddly bits, including passwords, user names, id retrieval etc. Just at the very last moment, he pressed the last click and the message came up that internet connection was lost. Tried to refresh, connection immediately back but poof! ShockAll info gone and he was left hanging. Had it gone through? Email arrived but not 100% clear, they will be in touch in 3-5 days. Could do with dragging him in to local branch. If I can grab him between sleep and social life. These online forms drive me barmy!

indulgentberries · 05/09/2017 13:31

Excellent stuff Rufus

Oldie where have you been? Not like you to be quiet!

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 05/09/2017 13:42

Oooh and bless him he is applying for jobs in the university town

There is careers info at the freshers fair but if he has a job already and future employment will be a bonus

rogueantimatter · 05/09/2017 17:09

Oh gosh yes to the intense frustration of online forms.

Working out the logistics of getting DS, DD, me, double bass, guitar, amp +3 suitcases to the local railway station. We might need three car trips. Fortunately it's only five minutes away. I'll be so relieved when we're on the London train with the double bass. It can't be booked on like a bike, so is always at the train driver's discretion. If there's no space at the end of the rows or in the spot for wheelchairs we will have to take turns at standing inside the door with it. Hopefully that won't happen.

Very impressed with DC who are applying for jobs in their uni town.

DD is finally somewhere with decent wifi. So...

her concierge service has been asked to sort out hairdresser, optician and some sort of special eye test she needs for her DSA. (Apparently there is normally a long wait list but I must have sounded so frustrated they phoned me back with a cancellation.) She needs her brother to sort out a problem with her lap top. She needs a rail card, but ....tar-rah.. thinks she can get one with a bank account she still has to identify and open.

This is before packing or anything. 11 days....

I assume students do get to University. It seems almost as complicated as applying in the first place.

Does anyone know which bank account gives out a rail card? Almost certainly too late for her first trip.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 05/09/2017 17:30

Ds1 is half way packed

He so desperate to go Grin

LittleHo · 05/09/2017 17:36

Santander Bank = railcard. Smile

BehindTheBlueDoor · 05/09/2017 17:53

Well, not proud of myself today. I lost it with DS2 over a stupid little thing. Thinking about it, and after much apologising, I realised it's all to do with anxiety about DS1 going.

Horsemad · 05/09/2017 18:04

Blue, don't worry, I expect loads of parents are doing the same and as you say, it is the anxiety. Flowers

Ilove · 05/09/2017 18:06

Warwick accomodation offer has arrived - Jack Martin, £5400/year

They want £2198 by Mon 2nd October

What can I get for selling a kidney???

fredafortycoats · 05/09/2017 18:56

Amazing Ilove ,you don't here anything about the accommodation and then they expect the money asap.My ds mantainence grant doesn't even cover the accommodation costs🙀But at least he has somewhere to stay.

BehindTheBlueDoor · 05/09/2017 19:23

Thank you Horse, DS2 and I are friends again now. Smile

rogueantimatter · 05/09/2017 21:17

It must be super stressful not knowing about accommodation until September. It was bad enough having to wait until the middle of July. I quite agree it's jolly poor having to pay so far in advance. Private landlords don't usually expect more than a month in advance.

DS' uni (Guildhall School of Music and Drama) emailed advising drivers to have the car unloaded and moved within 20 minutes to avoid congestion. They also said the driver must not stay to move things, but park the car somewhere else and go back on foot. At least this epic train journey has some advantages.

Horsemad · 05/09/2017 21:21

Yes, we have already had to pay £250 deposit and £666 for the first 'chunk', next payment is Oct.

morides · 05/09/2017 21:34

We too have payed £250 deposit and £540 for 4 weeks accommodation upfront well before the first chunk of the maintenance loans materialises. Also we were asked one day and the deadline was the following day... a bit rude isn't it?

Horsemad · 05/09/2017 21:39

DS1 didn't have to pay a deposit but he was in uni halls, whereas DS2 is in 'managed partnership' halls.

LittleHo · 05/09/2017 21:42

No news about accommodation yet.

pericat · 06/09/2017 07:38

Also waiting for accommodation offer from Warwick. Ilove - thank you for the warning about the bill that will come with it!! 😱

Horsemad · 06/09/2017 07:41

Hope the Warwick applicants get sorted with accommodation soon. What's their start date?

pericat · 06/09/2017 08:02

Move in weekend is 30 Sept/1 Oct. Warwick was Ds's firm choice and he completed his accommodation application form in early July so I am not sure why there is such a delay.

Apparently ds should hear by 15 Sept.

Horsemad · 06/09/2017 08:20

This is really bad, wonder if they are like this every year? I know Leeds has a bit of a reputation for being slow with accommodation allocations.
