Continuation of the original thread which is now on to 40 page maximum.
Original thread (part 1) here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/higher_education/2759621-Uni-offers-for-2017-start?

Most offers now received. My twins have had offers from their 4 and are currently deciding which will be firm and which insurance. One twin
( possibly two of them) is going to an offer holders' day coming up at Bristol next month with his friends from school.

That must have been nailbiting, doglover, till she got to school and knew thy'd made contingency plans.

The possibility of this sort of thing worried DD - her school is 20 miles away, and there have been a few occasions when the bus has been significantly delayed - the worst was about 3 hours due to a cow expiring on the road. So DH (who fortunately has pretty much retired) has been driving her, leaving plenty of leeway. She was very glad of this on Friday when there was some sort of major holdup on the road - in a car it was possible to turn round and use minor roads.

goodbyestranger · 19/06/2017 22:13

Errol we've had cows doggedly blocking the road before a Chemistry paper (DS1). 30 minutes worth of stand off with no possibility of reversing down the lane because the back up cows were behind us.

dah, I will ask my son. I don't think he'd heard of a leak. I don't know his exam board so it may not be the same one.

Needmoresleep · 20/06/2017 11:05

If anyone is having an empty nest clear out do consider donating books to your local school. I just phoned up the librarian and was surprised how keen she was to take books DC had read when they were younger. Secondary schools will have pupils of different reading levels so can take a range.

Not only will it increase the range of books available and provide second copies of popular books, but mean that the school library budget can be used for new activities not just replacing lost books.

Equally unsold books from school fetes, and my experience was that schools with affluent catchments can have a lot, are also welcome. I remember taking books from my kids prep to a local primary, and was later told that they had kept the best ones to give out as prizes on sports day. It also meant that younger children could be given books to take home, and the school did not have to worry about whether they came back.

Its a small bit of recycling but an effective one.

DS is done.
That's it. All over. No More School.

I feel a bit odd TBH.

But DD still has four exams to go so no let up in Casa GetAHairCut.

PennyForum · 20/06/2017 15:21

DS just home from Maths C3. He said it was dreadful. He needs an a* for his offer so is chasing high ups and feels he has blown it. Here's hoping for low grade boundaries.

dingit · 20/06/2017 15:28

Oh shit. Haven't heard from dd re c3. She was doing Solomon papers yesterday and getting A*s. What are they playing at with these a levels?

BehindTheBlueDoor · 20/06/2017 15:33

Just picked up DS too and he won't talk about the C3. Says he's blown it too. Really dejected. :-(

PennyForum · 20/06/2017 15:36

I don't know dingit, I really don't.

DC has done endless past papers and was comfortably finishing them with high marks within 45/50 mins. This one was only just finished and not fully checked.

Physics tomorrow and then the C4 on Friday. Que sera sera!

LittleHo · 20/06/2017 15:37

What exam boards did they take for Maths C3?

dingit · 20/06/2017 15:38

Same for my dd Penny. Where is your ds headed, (or hoping to head)?

dingit · 20/06/2017 15:40

Dds was edexcel. According to twitter it was bad, but never completely sure how much is exaggerated there.

PennyForum · 20/06/2017 16:09

Edexcel LittleHo and Warwick Dingit.

We are in ME so as if it being 115 degrees outside and still Ramadan so no water allowed wasn't hard enough. Hey ho. I've fed, watered, hugged and the nose is now stuck in a physics paper.

PennyForum · 20/06/2017 16:13

Where is DD hoping for Dingit?

dingit · 20/06/2017 16:17

To be kept on in her job at KFC Wink

The poor girl is sobbing, I've just sent her for a cool shower.
She needs AAB for Surrey. One of her best mates is down to do maths at Warwick.

ErrolTheDragon · 20/06/2017 17:36

It seems like this C3 is one which everyone says is hard. So the grade boundaries will be lower.

Penny - wow, that puts our complaints about the heat into perspective Shock - hope at least it's dry heat not humid like here?

PennyForum · 20/06/2017 18:48

Yes Errol it is dry heather most of the year thankfully . TBH I'd rather be in 45F/113C here than in 25F/77 C at home.

LittleHo · 20/06/2017 19:30

Had to laugh at dd's e mail from one university - 'Congratulations on finishing your exams.'

Except she still has exams until the end of next week. Grin

HSMMaCM · 20/06/2017 19:32

Little ho getting ahead of themselves. Grin

doglover · 20/06/2017 20:32

Dd is currently having a meltdown ......... Eng Lit paper 1 was, in her view, "terrible" and she " knows nothing" for paper 2 on Thursday. She puts so much pressure on herself and it's so hard to know how best to support her. :( :(

goodbyestranger · 20/06/2017 21:45

doglover can you persuade her to go out of the house early tomorrow morning for a bit to do something completely different (some form of exercise in the cool) rather than slogging all day getting increasingly anxious? This heat is seriously appalling for kids taking exams and fraying nerves disproportionately.

doglover · 20/06/2017 22:07

That's a good idea. We'll take the dog out and then I'll take her into college - she works better in the library there than out home.

BehindTheBlueDoor · 21/06/2017 09:51

After that C3 paper yesterday poor DS has two exams today and is in isolation all day as there is an exam clash. On the plus side he did manage to sleep last night despite the heat but I do worry about them. The stress is bad enough without the weather conspiring against them too.

7461Mary18 · 21/06/2017 10:27

One twin said yesterday's classics was harder than last year (I assume he means AS rather than last year's actual paper but I am not sure) but he did it okay.

They are both doing their very last paper now of anything - geography, then one has a school concert next week, then trip abroad with friends, then back from speech day practice, the day itself and then a school concert so it's not quite over yet but it will be a massive relief for the twins today to put down those pens with the last exam over. One has been sorting out old notes and books as he finishes each paper and is keeping his notes in case he needs to do resits which is probably a good idea.

Behind, yes the heat is awful. Mine have every window possible open in their bed room (they share a room) and keep trying my late mother's old remedy of running the inside of your wrists (veins) under a cold running tap.

BehindTheBlueDoor · 21/06/2017 10:40

Bit late now Mary but have they also tried a cold damp cloth on the back of the neck, that works well. The cold water on the wrists is a favourite here too. He also has an aromatherapy atomiser in his room to help with the high pollen count - and to make his room smell much nicer when he's working. He'd be mortified if any of his mates knew I'm sure!
