Continuation of the original thread which is now on to 40 page maximum.
Original thread (part 1) here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/higher_education/2759621-Uni-offers-for-2017-start?

Most offers now received. My twins have had offers from their 4 and are currently deciding which will be firm and which insurance. One twin
( possibly two of them) is going to an offer holders' day coming up at Bristol next month with his friends from school.

Nasal spray for my hay fever too. DH takes tablets.

Interesting about the adrenaline. I've always assumed it was because I was inside, not near allergens that stop me sneezing, but maybe it's adrenaline

tobee · 15/06/2017 17:29

Thanks for the suggestions re hay fever. He's been ok during the exams. Anyone else torn between wanting them to do really well but sad that that means they'll be off? He's my last child. Dd just finished her degree so will be here for a bit I expect but I didn't want her to go either. Ahhh! It's so stupid.

beepbeepimasheep · 15/06/2017 18:29

how did people find the psychology and english yesterday and today? disaster area here! suddenly DS doesn't seem so self assured of his favourite uni place :-(

doglover · 15/06/2017 20:32

My dd did the AQA English Lit exam today and came out feeling glum. She said the questions were 'weird' and didn't feel confident about her performance at all :( She needs grade As for Oxford and is not a happy bunny this evening!

7461Mary18 · 15/06/2017 22:07

None here today for my twins. One has 2 exams tomorrow and the other one. Next week is the last week.

They are my last children tobee and they will be off, without doubt, even if they mess up for Bristol they will almost certainly get their back up places although I will be eating my words if I'm wrong about that in August. I am not upset, no. I've had small children at home for 33 years. I could do with a break until they come back from Christmas. I am really looking forward to living alone - never achieved that yet in my whole life ever. Even just after their exams I have a work thing clashing with a concert at school one is in or partly and I am going to have to rush away early and finish my talk early to get to the concert jus tlike 33 years ago I was rushing home to breastfeed a baby and due to the childcare deadline. As I say to the boys however may be I will be weeping into my pillow all Autumn (doubt it....)

beepbeepimasheep · 15/06/2017 22:16

Dog lover, Ds said that everybody hated the English paper and is hoping that the grade boundaries are low as he needs Aab. English was apparently worse than the psychology paper and that was bad apparently.

7461Mary18 · 17/06/2017 12:56

Last week coming up with exams 3 days in a row.

Good luck to everyone else.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/06/2017 19:22

Mine is now halfway through - 5 down, 3 next week and two the week after.

BehindTheBlueDoor · 17/06/2017 19:40

DS just under halfway now. 5 down, 7 to go - 5 next week and 2 the week after. Hope all coping out there, especially your DS Peri. Thinking of you.

LittleHo · 17/06/2017 19:54

dd has loads of exams left.

7461Mary18 · 17/06/2017 20:43

Mine are lucky to finish early mid week coming up whilst friends doing other subjects seem to be going on later? One spent an hour looking for his notes today and had me helping for one topic and then decided he had never written that section so panic over and he's found the information in the text book.

It feels like the end of an era for me. My daughter did A levels 14 years ago. There will be university exams for at least the next 3 years but school is nearly over.

beepbeepimasheep · 18/06/2017 09:36

6 more here I think, next week and the week after.

I'm not sure it's going well. DS is saying that the GCSEs were a walk in the park and that these exams are hard and that he's not ready. That's worrying as he's worked very hard and normally has a good routine for exam prep. I've not voiced my concerns to him but I am worried that his chosen university is slipping out of his reach. Hopefully I am worrying for nothing.

HSMMaCM · 18/06/2017 12:18

Sheep - I worry about this too. DD had an unconditional offer which she turned down by putting it as her insurance and now I'm wondering if that was wise. I'm trying to stay optimistic.

2 more here and we're done by the end of the week. Good luck everyone.

doglover · 18/06/2017 17:58

Similar situation here, too. Dd genuinely never expected to be offered an Oxford place - this is her firm - and turned down an unconditional offer from another great uni. Her subsequent insurance choice offer now appears to be rather worryingly high! I suspect this is exam jitters talking .......... roll on next Friday when she's finished!

7461Mary18 · 18/06/2017 18:25

Mostly mine have thought they were okay so far. One felt he didn't do his best in one of 3 ecnoomics paper (not that the paper was bad )but he just thinks he did it badly. Hopefully it won't matter to much but it's under the new system so all on this year.

Lindor · 19/06/2017 11:30

DD found the psychology tricky last week, but was happy with English Lit, mainly because she got her timings right.

she's got French today (Lucie Aubrac essay anyone?) which tends
to include writing essays on such jolly topics as euthanasia, anorexia, mental health issues.

Then only 3 to go. Two of which are both on Thursday unfortunately.

Hope you and your children are all holding up well. soon be there

x

LittleHo · 19/06/2017 13:11

One exam taken this morning and it seemed to go ok. Three more this week and the heat is rising.

Still have three weeks to go unfortunately.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 19/06/2017 15:20

Am finding everyone's shared experience and the mixed feelings of DC post exam quite reassuring.

Hoping DD's done/doing well enough to be able to go on to some of those exciting opportunities for next year without the re-take year that has occasionally
been mentioned.

Molly499 · 19/06/2017 18:06

I feel so sorry for them all doing exams in this heat!

DD has politics / biology tomorrow so will be stuck with the supervisor as timings clash, history on Wednesday then the last long Biology paper next Monday.

Consensus so far is that politics ok, history v. hard (OCR) and biology (Edexcel) just plain evil. I think results day will be a shocker this year, let's hope that the Universities are sympathetic to any issues with the new linear exams.

doglover · 19/06/2017 18:10

Nightmare scenario here this morning! Dd set off at normal time but the college bus - in fact all the traffic - was severely delayed and she arrived late for her exam :( (This has only happened twice in two years!) Fortunately, the college were aware that dozens of their students were affected and provided a calm atmosphere when they all eventually arrived. Dd and another lad were in another room and started 20 min late .............. after all that, she said the exam was ok!

7461Mary18 · 19/06/2017 18:51

dog, glad it worked out all right in the end but it must have been such a worry.
My son (the twins share a car and drive to school) left about 90 minutes before it started this afternoon. He said economics was okay (he doesn't chat much). As he was not happy about his last economics paper that is probably good that today was "okay". he goes out for a run every day at present - I just picked up his sports clothes and it was as if he'd dived into water - so sweaty, so very very hot today. I think the first paper of 3 earlier was okay too - that leaves one for him on Wednesday - geog and his twin has two more left - one tomorrow and one the day after.

He did say the exam hall at school ils actually very cool not over heated (our house is boiling) so that least that's something. I suspect most GCSEs are over too so they will not be sharing the exam hall with GCSE people which crowds it out and is not as nice.

HSMMaCM · 19/06/2017 19:35

Dog lover - dd would have been totally stressed if she knew she was running late ! Glad the school were on top of it.

dahliaaa · 19/06/2017 19:36

I just put this in 'secondary education' but realised probably better here.
Rumour on twitter etc that Edexcel Economics exam today leaked before exam. Students worried that either paper won't count or grade boundaries will be very high. I'm trying to reassure here that it's unlikely to have happened (?)

LittleHo · 19/06/2017 20:10

Doglover - your dd must have been panicking on that journey. Shock Did they give her the extra time at the end?

doglover · 19/06/2017 20:16

She was massively stressed! Yes, her and the other student taking Music started/finished 15 min behind the rest of the class.
