University offers for 2017 start (Part 2)

Continuation of the original thread which is now on to 40 page maximum.
Original thread (part 1) here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/higher_education/2759621-Uni-offers-for-2017-start?

Most offers now received. My twins have had offers from their 4 and are currently deciding which will be firm and which insurance. One twin
( possibly two of them) is going to an offer holders' day coming up at Bristol next month with his friends from school.

There is so much fantastic information here. I'd have been lost without you lot.

poisonedbypen · 09/05/2017 19:18

goodbyestranger maybe. I know we kept trying & it was 8ish, but by then it wasn't so urgent as she had the email from the uni & her results at 8.

I think that if a university has said to call, then it's fine - although in those circs it may be easier for them to leave the decision unmade. We can reverse a decision once taken, but it's a huge pain.
Thanks for the kind words Errolthedragon- although this year my numbers are not looking very predictable! Sometimes all you can do is give enough warning of problems! The worst bit is turning people down who you know would be great, because you have no space - and then watching people who you know are lucky to be there not take full advantage...

Stopyourhavering · 09/05/2017 20:53

Also a mention that if you dcs have been doing a BTEC instead of A levels, they will most likely get their results and offers well before A level results.....( so get accommodation confirmed as well)
Dd2 did BTEC. 2 yrs ago and found out she'd got her offer 10 days before A level results!!
Dd1 found out at 8 am on A level results day she'd got her firm choice on Track before going to school....she also got e mail from Uni congratulating her on her place

JanetBrown2015 · 10/05/2017 09:37

I mentioned results day to one of mine last night and he said no way would he get up early to check as it would make no difference anyway and certainly would not be waking up as early as 8am! He also said it worked well going into school with his twin later than some other boys on AS results day as the teachers were not as busy. He said he'sll check the results on his phone in bed. I hope he tells me. I did say just be very sensitive about you twin (because the issue is one needs A*AA and the other AAB for Bristol so there is a good chance one will get in and not the other so we must not be excited and happy really or not too much for one if the other hasn't got in. They tend to be very kind to each other and still share a bed room so I suspect it will be okay.)

aginghippy · 10/05/2017 11:55

Janet I haven't asked, but I am sure my dd would say the same about waking up at 8 am Grin

goodbyestranger · 10/05/2017 11:59

Mine also preferred sleep but they'd given me their track id because we were in different places. I didn't prefer sleep :) I also didn't tell them I knew until they told me they knew.

goodbyestranger · 10/05/2017 12:00

But then, to be honest, they'd have known I knew given that they'd given me the id, because they know I'd want to know as soon as I could, and I wake up earlier. Very hard not to check track if you're up and about with the id in your possession....

HSMMaCM · 10/05/2017 13:49

DD knows I have her ID and she will know I'm pretending I haven't looked Grin. In fact she will probably just ask what it said.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 10/05/2017 15:03

I'm jealous, I don't know the password (yet!)

Lindor · 10/05/2017 15:37

Thank you Gannet123 for all your information. It's always good to be informed. I'm dreading results day. Luckily it will be my last one, I think our A level system is so poorly designed.

DD has done her A2 French oral now and pronounced it not good nor bad. So hopefully it went ok. It's been taking up so much of her brain space I'm glad she can now focus on revising for the written exams. Not long to go now...

JanetBrown2015 · 10/05/2017 16:43

I am happy to leave them to tell me on results day. Whatever happens it will all work out for the best. If one goes to Bristol and the other doesn't get in that isn't necessarily a bad thing - more independence from twin if at a different university. I can see pros and cons, not that they would be in each other's pocket if at the same university. They have different friends and hobbies.

BasiliskStare · 11/05/2017 23:10

Ds gave us his track id and knew ( and agreed) if he were not up and about we would look. I ended up running upstairs ( followed by two excited dogs ) and waking him up saying "it's fine, it's fine ". At some point he roused himself and asked what his actual grades were Smile . No prizes for cool and laid back parents that morning.

poisonedbypen · 12/05/2017 07:43

My teenagers can sleep for England but I can't imagine them not being awake half the night before a major event like this! DD was awake most of the night & up from 6.30!

dingit · 12/05/2017 08:29

It's going to take me a week to recover, then we do it again with ds's GCSE results Wine

goodbyestranger · 12/05/2017 08:40

Agreed Basilisk. I'm massively uncool but at least the relevant DC isn't there to witness my lack of cool, so I can indulge myself fully, and do :)

tobee · 13/05/2017 14:27

School has finished for ds and study leave begins. Which is weird. No alarms going off. No dc in school any more after 19 (?) years!

I suggested to ds he have a couple days off revision. He looked shocked. But I think he needs to stop thinking about school work for a bit and to recharge. Have a few days with no plan and no timetable. I think he feels weird and odd about everyone dispersing soon. Everyone wants to do a big fun thing on their last day before study leave but most seemed shattered fairly fast.

HSMMaCM · 13/05/2017 15:33

No study leave for DD. They all have to go in every day, but they are allowed to revise in lessons

dingit · 13/05/2017 15:41

Dd finishes up on Friday. She's relieved as it frees up 1.5 hours travel time, half hour form time. Ds is at school until middle of June ( GCSEs) which is just as well as he will be far away from his Xbox ( and his sister) Smile

tobee · 13/05/2017 18:10

DS first exam something like June 12th!!! Shock

JanetBrown2015 · 13/05/2017 18:10

Mine finish lessons on Friday too and will be on study leave. They work well at home so it will be fine that they are off school.

aginghippy · 13/05/2017 18:33

DD has two more weeks of lessons, but they are all revision lessons anyway. At least going in to college to revise makes a change from sitting at home revising.

ErrolTheDragon · 13/05/2017 19:31

DD has two more weeks as well, study leave doesn't begin until after half term. But they're allowed the day before an exam off, and she says part of the reason for that is to avoid stress. So she says on Tuesday she'll revise (well, do another M3 paper I expect) in the morning but then wants to do something like take the dog out for a walk somewhere nice in the afternoon. Which sounds remarkably sensible.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 13/05/2017 22:47

Two weeks more here for DD until breaks up for study leave at half-term.
You've all just made me realise that's just two more weeks of school for her. But I'll try not to think of it that way.
She has a leavers assembly and leavers meal at end of June after her exams.
I think that will feel more like the end of term, year, and everything else!
