Could we have a handholding thread? I have two DCs going through UCSS at the moment, would love to obsess here so I can appear calm on the outside.
LNAT results go to the UNIs tomorrow I think, so offers could be rolling in soon for DD who has applied for law.

Waiting on Exeter now. I remember last year's thread saying they were painfully slow for some sciences.

Waitingforsherlock · 11/12/2016 07:56

Re-reading the thread- I put that 'offers' not 'applications' got there- obviously wishful thinking...

EnormousTiger · 11/12/2016 09:13

It seems to be fairly unpredictable. My two have Exeter offers but not for science (although it might be BSc geog at Exeter for one - I can't remember which are BA and which BSc for geography as it varies for him I think).

BingBongBam · 11/12/2016 09:26

That's excellent Juggling Smile we applied for accommodation today, it's all seeming rather real at the moment.

titchy · 11/12/2016 13:55

Dd has a science offer from Exeter! Her favourite and same grades as her AS so achievable. GrinHas four out of four so far. Waiting on Bath...

JugglingFromHereToThere · 11/12/2016 14:47

Ooh, applying for accommodation Bing!

Does that mean you've chosen a firm and insurance already? I don't know how the whole applying for accommodation thing works so would be interested to hear from others who do?

BehindTheBlueDoor · 11/12/2016 15:19

DS physics offer in from Exeter too, post interview. One more to go then decisions.

BingBongBam · 11/12/2016 15:38

juggling not quite but Ds has offers from his two favourites and he thinks that the grades for one or the other are achievable so plans to make them his firm and insurance, he's just not sure which way round yet as he's not been to the offer holder day for the second one.

As it's first come first served for the accommodation he wanted to apply now. He and I have different views on the accommodation so we've had to compromise; I'm paying his rent for the first year so I have suggested an en-suite bedroom but he thinks it is a waste of money. However, I've seen what student bathrooms can get like and he hasn't !

JugglingFromHereToThere · 12/12/2016 18:36

Interesting Bing.
I looked at the Uni website for one of DD's possibles - I looked at Reading Uni - and it seems even after receiving an offer that you want to accept as your "firm" you have to wait for a set date - in April for Reading - before you can apply for accommodation.
Don't know if Uni's vary much on this?

TheMortificadosDragon · 12/12/2016 18:44

I think it must vary - if I heard my DD correctly, Manchester ask you to state your preferred accommodation when you get an offer, so you might not even be making them your firm or reserve. I've no idea why they'd want to do that (other than maybe the psychological picturing yourself being there but that seems a bit subtle!)

BingBongBam · 12/12/2016 18:53

One of ds's other preferences doesn't let you apply yet, the other has just opened for applications for accommodation and says it is first come first served - once you've got your results they look back at who applied first.

Needmoresleep · 12/12/2016 19:18

First come first served is pretty tough on the medics, many of whom won't hear until March, if not later.

LineyReborn · 12/12/2016 20:00

Yes, DS is getting quite nervous about the accommodation issues, and I don't blame him. He may dump Exeter to accept Warwick and Cardiff and get accommodation booked.

He's got enough enough stress going on.

BingBongBam · 12/12/2016 21:01

Maybe it's first come first served based on your subject so they don't penalise medics etc?

TheMortificadosDragon · 12/12/2016 23:18

DD got her 3rd offer tonight, from Sheffield - 3A or AAB if she gets an A in her EPQ.

YerAWizardHarry · 13/12/2016 01:24

I'm not a parent (well I am but DS is a bit young for uni yet Grin) currently sitting my Scottish Highers as a mature student and I got an invite to interview today for Primary Education at Aberdeen. I'm so pleased as I only put down one choice.

TheMortificadosDragon · 13/12/2016 06:37

Congratulations! Hope that goes well for you.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 13/12/2016 07:35

That's wizard Harry!

Good luck for the interview Flowers

I picked up my certificate the other day for the Intro to Counselling course I did at my local college in the summer term, and am now one term into the Certificate in Counselling Skills course - was glad to break up for Christmas last week.

Always good to hear what the DP's are up to too I think Smile

JugglingFromHereToThere · 13/12/2016 07:48

Yey, congrats on the Sheffield offer Dragon!

We like the look of Sheffield too, but here it's down on DD's list as her most aspirational one. Kind of just about possible if the wind's in the right direction!

hellsbells99 · 13/12/2016 09:56

Dragon - is that for engineering? My DD had Sheffield in her 5 last year. I thought the Diamond building was fantastic!

TheMortificadosDragon · 13/12/2016 11:41

Yup, EEE. Sorry, hellsbells - forgot (if I knew) what yours is doing where?

rightsofwomen · 13/12/2016 19:19

SHOULD DS WEAR A SUIT FOR MANCHESTER ELEC ENG INTERVIEW Tomorrow?

OMG...sorry for shouting!! Xmas Blush

BehindTheBlueDoor · 13/12/2016 21:28

My DS has been for three physics interviews not mech eng I'm afraid and he went more smart than casual but most others were v casual. Most important that he feels comfortable. Good luck!

rightsofwomen · 13/12/2016 21:36

Thank you. DS is unravelling a bit. My normally easy going, confident, organised lad is a bit overwhelmed I think. Tonnes of school work, end of term events, his p/t job, his band, uni stuff....

We are leaving at 6.30am tomorrow and I just got back from a run hoping he'd have found out what he needed to wear - but nope. Anyway, it took me 2 mins to find it on their web site (no suit needed). Some ironing for me this evening then!

And I could do with DS2 (7) going to sleep thank you! Ho hum.
