Could we have a handholding thread? I have two DCs going through UCSS at the moment, would love to obsess here so I can appear calm on the outside.
LNAT results go to the UNIs tomorrow I think, so offers could be rolling in soon for DD who has applied for law.

Great news ByTheSea. :)

Offer just in from Manchester AAA Just waiting for Oxford and UCL now

user1480587488 · 01/12/2016 10:31

To anyone who has DC with an Oxford physics interview looming. My DC found this chap particularly useful last year for interview practice. physicsaptitudetest.weebly.com/mock-interview.html

LittleHoHum · 01/12/2016 11:46

Thanks - really helpful user - dd still doesn't know. She isn't too fussed one way or the other as she really loves two of her other offers.

Someone gave her a mock interview at school but said that he wasn't a Physicist so didn't have a clue waht she was talking about, but it sounded really good. Grin

LizzieBennet42 · 01/12/2016 12:37

DS1 just received Oxford physics rejection so a bit down today. Has offers from Warwick AAA, Lancaster AAA or unconditional if he firms, awaiting Exeter and St Andrews now, then decisions. Any idea when Scottish unis send offers? I've heard not until Jan/Feb.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/12/2016 14:01

Sorry about that Lizzie, good he's got a couple of solid offers already though.

LizzieBennet42 · 01/12/2016 14:15

Thanks Errol. Had his Exeter interview this week which went well so hopefully another offer on the way. i think I'm more nervous about all of this than him. I'm sure I wasn't so anxious back in the day when I was applying.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/12/2016 14:24

I think it was less stressful when you just filled in the form, sent it by post and waited. No open days that I ever knew of either, just interviews at some. The lack of league tables made it all a bit more hit and miss but there were fewer universities and courses to choose from.

AmazingDisgrace · 01/12/2016 14:42

What college was it Lizzie? We're waiting on Wadham for physics

AmazingDisgrace · 01/12/2016 14:44

Oops sorry, hit send too soon.. Commiserations about the rejection, I suspect DS1 will be in the same boat. RE: Scottish universities, he has an offer from Edinburgh, it was one of the quickest ones to make him an offer back in October

LizzieBennet42 · 01/12/2016 15:00

Wow! October was quick for Edinburgh. I understand St Andrews take a while to offer. Oxford application was for Keble. Not surprised at result but until he heard definitely he held out hope. Knew he'd messed up his PAT, the first time nerves had ever really got to him.

user1480587488 · 01/12/2016 15:21

Sorry to hear that Lizzie. He can how ever hopefully console himself in that fact that the workload and pace are mad for Oxford physics and sleep definitely seem to take a back seat!

LizzieBennet42 · 01/12/2016 15:56

Great believer that things happen for a reason user.

HardcoreLadyType · 01/12/2016 16:34

DD1 had a message from Edinburgh that they had her application, but wouldn't consider it until the deadline was passed. That's for English, though.

RoobyMyrtle · 01/12/2016 17:01

Dd2 just got an unconditional offer to do Geology at Leicester. I'm in shock tbh. They sent her a lovely email to say how impressed they were with her application. Dd2 is now in a grump because her course is more competitive and her predicted grades are slightly lower so the same isn't likely to happen to her.

CharliePurple · 01/12/2016 21:00

Ds has applied for the same course at all his choices and has had offers. He's now changed his mind about what degree he wants to do, is it too late to change his mind?

OddBoots · 01/12/2016 21:16

He might need to speak to his school/college for advice but as far as I know if he wants to switch to his new subject at a university he has already applied to then he needs to contact them directly and if they agree to the change then they will notify UCAS of the change but if they don't agree or he wants to change universities then he would have to decline all his offers and apply via UCAS extra when it opens on the 25th Feb.

CharliePurple · 02/12/2016 06:35

Thanks.

meridithssister · 02/12/2016 08:22

Boy has had an offer from Warwick AAA which is the last one we were waiting for for, so we are done for now. Good luck to everyone still waiting.
Charlie, Boy spoke to a lecturer on an open day about this as he was unsure about the course he wanted, they said to ring the University. That was just an unofficial chat though, so it's not actual knowledgeable advice. Hope it works out.

EnormousTiger · 02/12/2016 10:09

We still await Edinburgh x2, Durham x2 and 1 Bristol.
They didn't apply to Warwick in the end but nearly did.
No rush. It will all be fine. Having 3 older graduate children puts it in perspective. It never matters as much as it seems at the time and usually all works out for the best in the end.

Congratulations to everyone with new offers.

ono40 · 02/12/2016 10:30

Charlie, my friend's DS did this last year, had offers from York and Imperial for one subject but wanted to change to another. They asked him to redo personal statement and both interviewed him and gave him new offers (higher as the new course was more demanding).

ilove · 02/12/2016 11:41

Rejection letter from Oxford yesterday, but then an offer from Edinburgh for AAA for DS.

Ilove · 02/12/2016 11:44

Still waiting on Durham and St Andrews

HardcoreLadyType · 02/12/2016 11:48

DD1 had an offer from Manchester today. AAA for English.

Her Cambridge interview is Monday. Gaaaah!

LizzieBennet42 · 02/12/2016 13:32

Still waiting on St Andrews too ilove and an offer from Exeter, which is in the ether apparently. Durham offers can be painfully late I hear. My friend's DD got her offer two days before she had to finalise choices. Got her place for Maths with a year abroad though and is loving it. Good luck!
