Could we have a handholding thread? I have two DCs going through UCSS at the moment, would love to obsess here so I can appear calm on the outside.
LNAT results go to the UNIs tomorrow I think, so offers could be rolling in soon for DD who has applied for law.

Exeter also have a reputation for offering late, Lizzie, but I guess it varies between departments, as some already have offers for both Exeter and Durham on this thread.

Two days is running it a bit fine, though!

LizzieBennet42 · 02/12/2016 17:15

DS1 had an Exeter interview on Tuesday so he knew he wouldn't get offer beforehand.

I too thought two days was dreadful timing.

jeanne16 · 02/12/2016 21:00

DC has engineering offer from Imperial. Absolutely thrilled!

CQ · 03/12/2016 13:41

DS got an email to tell him an offer from Imperial would be forthcoming. Not sure why they have to tell him, can't they just get on and make the offer? Anyway, he's delighted - engineering for him too, looks like a great course and the year abroad is especially tempting - DS is fancying a year in California!

Still nothing from Durham or Newcastle. Cambridge interview on Tuesday - EEK Shock

indiraisindiaisindira · 03/12/2016 15:59

Dd has an offer from St Andrews for history albeit being told January would be the earliest. Apparently they do so if they are very sure.
Birmingham and Bristol were days after application.
On the other hand she was rejected pre-interview at Oxford, she was very disappointed and left scratching her head as to why. A friend of hers had 13a and was rejected, where as another got 2a and has an interview. I guess we never really know what they are after! She thought the HAT went just as well as all her past papers, maybe the marker didn't like her subject... or she cocked it up big time Grin

Best of luck to all other dc! Wine

TheMortificadosDragon · 03/12/2016 19:51

CQ - same for DD on tues - I'm not sure if its all within the college or if they visit the eng. dept too?

indira - sorry your DD is disappointed, but she's got some good offers there.

goodbyestranger · 03/12/2016 19:57

indira it will have been the HAT. These pre tests can throw up savage results, I've certainly seen some this year.

WalkingToMordor · 04/12/2016 12:51

Just popping back in and excited to see all the great offers coming in. Best of luck to everyone's DC doing Oxbridge interviews.

Not such good news for ds who has had one interview swiftly followed by a rejection. Unfortunately this was from the university with the lowest entry requirements so that is a bit concerning.

He has two more interviews this month and one in January so fingers crossed somewhere makes him an offer.

CharliePurple · 04/12/2016 13:14

Thanks Ono. One of the universities says that they give unconditional offers for his proposed new subject if they have the GCSE grades that he has, now he just needs to make a decision - piece of cake. No?
Well done for all the offers and commiserations to those who haven't got the ones they want.

TwitterQueen1 · 05/12/2016 12:43

Anyone had an offer from Exeter for Ancient History yet? My DC is getting very impatient. We have other offers so not terribly worried, but it is currently his favourite.

TheMortificadosDragon · 05/12/2016 13:08

Mordor - maybe the place with low entry requirements gets a lot of applicants? I've forgotten if you said what the course was.

FV45 · 05/12/2016 13:12

My DS was told at open day at Imperial that they interview everyone before making offers. This is for Elec Eng. I see some DC already have Eng offers. Is it different for different Eng disciplines?

Anyway my DS has
Offer from Surrey
Offer from Sheffield
Interview at Manchester next Wed
Interview at Imperial in Feb

Still waiting to hear from Southampton.

Exciting times.

TheMortificadosDragon · 05/12/2016 13:55

Is it different for different Eng disciplines?
Yes, it seems to be. All DDs elec eng choices do interview (and camb gen eng, obv), friends applying for other eng courses none or just some. She's got offers from Southampton and Manchester, interviews camb wed, Sheffield thurs then Nottingham in feb. So far our kids seem to be avoiding each other, wonder whether any will end up at the same place?Grin

rightsofwomen · 05/12/2016 15:06

Oh hello dragon [stumbles around all over Higher Education topics]

I live near Cambridge, maybe I'll go and see Dragon Junior on Wed. She'll have scales and a long tail, right?

TheMortificadosDragon · 05/12/2016 15:14

Grin ..and I've just realised that I've slipped into using my Mortificado name on the various yr13/uni threads instead of my usual Errol. Dragon Anyway, glad you found us rightsofwomen!

In this guise I have the catchphrase (#soproud) which come what may might also be applicable here. Grin

EnormousTiger · 05/12/2016 15:45

Twitter, trying to remember now. My AH one has had offers from Bristol, Nottingham and one other which is definitely not Edinburgh or Durham so yes it must be Exeter and I think it's ABB from memory but don't quote me on that. I've been muddling the twins' grades, teachers and friends for nearly 20 years now.

TwitterQueen1 · 05/12/2016 16:33

thanks Tiger - I think I did see your previous post on this thread, but I've not heard of any other AH Exeter offers. DC is expected to get 3 As, so I'm a bit surprised tbh...

I guess we just wait...

WalkingToMordor · 05/12/2016 16:41

MortificadosDragon, it's a healthcare related course. It is only taught at 10 universities but it is not particularly popular so we thought he was in with a chance somewhere. His interview must have been totally rubbish! Confused

Anyway, onwards and upwards. If all else fails most of the universities will be in Extra if it's anything like last year. Smile

FrogPrincess · 05/12/2016 16:52

Hi everyone, time to join in for the Frog household, dd sent off her UCAS application a week ago for English Lit and Creative Writing.

She has an offer from Kent and an interview at Falmouth in January

Waiting to hear from Lancaster, UEA and Bath. Does anyone know whether these are generally slow at replying?

Good luck all :)

MrsBernardBlack · 05/12/2016 17:12

DS is still waiting to hear from both Exeter and St Andrews for Classics.

He has had offers from KCL and UCL, and is off to Oxford for his interview tomorrow.

dingit · 05/12/2016 17:53

Frog, Dd is still waiting for Bath, her UCAS app went in at half term. It's the only one she is left waiting for.

Needmoresleep · 05/12/2016 19:57

Great news about offers. Neither of mine got what they wanted until the end of March, so I will stick around to offer sympathy to those still waiting.

I am having an early experience of the empty next. DD, who has a deferred place and is on a gap year, left today for a 5 month ski season. The impressive thing was she dealt with everything, including packing, herself. Not something she could have done a year ago. The sad thing is she won't be around this evening, or tomorrow evening, or a lot of evenings to come. She hopes to do Camp America afterwards and then will leave for University, so I guess that's it. The house will be tidier, which is a small compensation, but I suspect I will miss the mess.

EnormousTiger · 05/12/2016 21:14

Twitter, I think the process can be quite arbitrary. One of my sons could not understand why his twin had an unconditional offer when he hadn't (and he said it was impossible to get a higher mark in his subject some other typical teenager show off comment)... well that's just tough. The system is not pure and fair. Sometimes they won't get what they want but it doesn't really matter. They all tend to get somewhere perfectly reasonable so I've told mine not to worry about it. It will all come out in the wash even if the process is arbitrary and weird at times.

thecalicocat · 06/12/2016 07:08

Twitter, my DS, currently 3rd yr Exeter, didn't get his offer for English through from Exeter until really late, possibly March/April despite offers from everywhere else comjng in quickly.( They also let him in with a dropped grade☺)

TwitterQueen1 · 06/12/2016 09:11

Thanks Cat and Tiger. Newcastle, Warwick and Kent came in very quickly but I knew Exeter would be slow.

Durham has said they won't make any decisions until end of January, so we're not expecting to hear anything before beginninng / mid Feb.

Hey ho. I've really enjoyed going to visit the unis. I was at Newcastle so obviously that's my favourite but DC says it's too far away - worried about being homesick. Warwick is a fab uni with a fab dept but doesn't have the warm cosiness that Exeter has... (and the accommodation costs at Exeter look very high to me).
