..... and managed to get an offer?
Hideous interview today. Grilled on a topic she hasn't even covered in her A level course and based purely on a 7 page academic article she only got half an hour before the interview.
She is so down about it all.

I thought today was the day....

All the best.

Molio · 06/01/2016 08:30

By which I mean was the day. Queen's certainly says the 6th.

Asterisk · 06/01/2016 08:58

Exeter says 7th. Fingers crossed everyone.

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 06/01/2016 09:11

DD won't hear till next week Sad.

Hullygully · 06/01/2016 09:28

Dd has an offer!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Aggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh. Can't tell anyone in rl (she doesn't know yet...) so am posting it here before I explode. Fingers crossed for everyone else.

AtiaoftheJulii · 06/01/2016 09:37

Yay Hully! Can't believe you opened her letter/email though, my dd would never have let me do that!

The university admissions page says 6th, so hopefully everyone will hear today Chocolate (where's the fingers crossed emoticon?)

Hullygully · 06/01/2016 09:53

She said I could (she may have retracted it, but I forgot haha)...No, it was in the subject line!!

CoteDAzur · 06/01/2016 09:58

Congratulations to your DD, Hully Smile

tropicalfish · 06/01/2016 10:11

Congratulations Hully. Well done to you and your daughter!

superbaghag · 06/01/2016 10:14

My DS got a call this morning. He did it. Good luck to those waiting to hear.

Hullygully · 06/01/2016 10:23

Thanks, I'm so excited, much more so than her I think...

HocusCrocus · 06/01/2016 12:22

Hully - good news - congratulations. (Now you know what a not "pushing and pushing" interview can mean Grin ) Hope you've managed to speak to her / not explode. And congrats to Superbag too.

Cherryburn · 06/01/2016 12:47

I can confirm that a 'disastrous' Oxford interview does not necessarily mean a rejection. DD got an offer for English.

Well done to those with offers and fingers crossed for those yet to hear.

FordPerfect · 06/01/2016 13:00

DS has got an offer. Hooray.

Well done to Hullygully and Superbaghag.

Molio · 06/01/2016 13:06

Well done Hullygully, superbag, Cherryburn and FordPerfect! Great news!

Cherryburn · 06/01/2016 13:15

Thanks Molio. And thanks for all your help and advice over the last few months-it's been invaluable.

Molio · 06/01/2016 13:31

No problem :) Don't forget the parking tip - that's the best one of all!

marvik · 06/01/2016 13:32

In case this is of any use.

A year back my youngest child was offered a place at their chosen college. They have now completed their first term, and are enjoying the opportunities on offer. I hope that anyone whose child gets an offer today or tomorrow, will eventually gain a place and find similar pleasure when their university course begins.

If anybody's child is told they are not being offered a place, I think this might be worth remembering.

If they end up 'firming' a university where the required grades aren't quite so high, the summer will not be quite so horribly stressful. Again going to an institution where the teaching term isn't quite so condensed, will have its advantages.

Rezolution123 · 06/01/2016 14:07

Well done to the aforementioned.
DD got her offer by post today and it is from St John's, Oxford, which she preferred to Christ Church. Biological Sciences btw.
So excited! Smile

horsemadmom · 06/01/2016 14:42

DD in for English at Magdalen! So proud of her!

Expatmomma · 06/01/2016 15:38

Congratulations to everyone. Enjoy this day.

DP's DS applied to cambridge so 6 more days for him and us to wait.

Hullygully · 06/01/2016 15:55

Congrats to all!

Dumbledoresgirl · 06/01/2016 16:15

Congrats to all with offers. How exciting for you!

My boy got a rejection unfortunately, but so did his best friend so honours are even here. They also both applied to Durham and we were sitting around commiserating today and wondering what Durham are up to as no-one here has heard from them, when ds piped up 'oh I got an offer from Durham in December, did I forget to tell you?' Sure enough, there was the offer on his phone! In mitigation, it arrived on his 18th birthday about 2 hours before he went out partying, but even so, his friends (and I) were gobsmacked that something so important was forgotten about.

The standard Durham offer is higher than Oxford's. When the disappointment re Oxford has died down, I will be happy enough.

AtiaoftheJulii · 06/01/2016 16:38

Well done to those who got the news they wanted, and commiserations to those who didn't.

Supermanspants · 06/01/2016 19:31

Lovely to see all the good news.... commiserations to those who didn't. I had it on very good authority this week that Oxbridge regularly reject outstanding candidates so try not to be too down hearted. That is my mantra for when we hear next week. I have been talking to DD about her other fab others and bought her an amazing book linked to her subject written by a professor attached to the the uni holding one of her offers. We have also been talking about where she wants to live so she am trying to normalise as much as possible for her. God, I know we all say it but she works so fucking hard. She has survived a very seriously life limiting illness so has dealt with so much. I look at her little tired, stressed face. Have decided to book a week in the wilds of somewhere forger to decompress from it all.
