Hope your dd is ok Marianne. Is she staying on until next week?

We are now collecting dd tomorrow. She was coming home on Sunday but we have a family party tomorrow night for my dad's birthday and she was going to be the only one missing (out of 21 of us and including my db and family who are coming down from Scotland!) so she decided she would come back early. The rest of the family don't know she's coming - can't wait to see my dad's face Grin

Coatandhat · 04/12/2015 20:27

Oh how lovely Mrs B - that's a bonus with a cherry on the top! Hope you have a wonderful party with your Dad Cake. We're collecting DD tomorrow too and it's like Christmas coming early!

Very jealous of all those who are collecting their DCs this week. DS doesn't break up until 18th so flying back on 19th.
DS doesn't seem to have done anything about looking for accomodation for next year. Don't think he knows where to start. Hopefully one of his friends will take the lead.

hellsbells99 · 04/12/2015 23:02

DD1 not back until 19th here as well Bigbluebus.
Hope the rest of you have good weekends with your returning DCs - and next weekend for you Mumslife.
We are off for an applicant day tomorrow with DD2 and hopefully DD1 is coming home for the night with us as she wants to put our Xmas tree up 😄

Horsemad · 05/12/2015 09:19

MrsB, hope you all have a great party, bet your Dad will be thrilled she is attending! Smile

DS home 2 wks today!

HocusCrocus · 05/12/2015 11:41

DS home now.

Either I am very good at packing or he has brought more stuff home than he went with Grin

Fairenuff · 05/12/2015 13:11

Marianne my dd is the same. I am amazed at how she breezes through life with no apparant plan or organisation! I think she's just lucky, nothing phases her, she just lets things happen and everything seems to turn out ok Confused

What are everyone's plans financially next year? Are they going to take out more loans to cover accommodation costs? Dd seems to be happy to take out loans rather than find a job or use her savings Hmm

She does, however, have a job here at home so she'll be picking up some shifts when she gets back. Dh is picking her up on the 11th.

We went to hers for some Christmas shopping last weekend and took her an advent calendar Grin

circular · 05/12/2015 13:53

Just catching up, hope all those returning today have a great weekend.
First term seems to have gone so quick.

We're collecting DD next weekend, although doesn't have to clear room has too much to bring back on the train. Not sure if Saturday or Sunday yet, depends whether they decide to cook a Xmas meal or similar as a flat.

As for finances next year, as DD seems to have managed OK on minimum loan to live on with us paying accommodation, need to work out a arrangement where she is left with same amount. Hoping rent and bills doesn't cost more than what what we have paid this year. Travel costs could also change, so doubt we can realistically plan until way find a place.

Just noticed there's an interested thread going about tenancy agreements.....

Hellooo - I didn't realise this thread was still going strong Blush

Ds has been a bit up and down - he got behind with one of his modules and had to work frantically to catch up (but is now apparently up to date) and he's still ill, he seems to be unable to shift his freshers' flu. He even took himself to the uni medical centre and he's been prescribed an inhaler for his cough but he's still not right

Without any discussion with us at all he's signed up for a house share next year - there's 5 of them from his current halls, including two girls (not entirely convinced they know what they've let themselves in for...).

It seems ok, relatively close to campus and around average rent, but it's a longer contract than in halls plus he's got bills and food on top so I'm not sure how he's planning to cover the extra ...

He's got one more week and then he's home Smile

sassymuffin · 05/12/2015 20:29

Going to collect DD tomorrow and cant wait to see her, I have been cleaning her room and washing her bedding today. Her advent calender is still unopened even though her brother has offered to keep it up to date Grin

Had a hour and a half telephone call with her yesterday, she seems to be running on empty and very homesick. She actually said she is looking forward to me telling her when she should go to bed because she has no sleep routine at all. I think snatching cat naps and late nights in the library and pub have taken there toll.

Coatandhat · 06/12/2015 15:33

DD home but ill unfortunately. Think it has all caught up with her - she's exhausted and doesn't think she could've lasted another week. Lovely to have her here and that we can talk without it being a rushed phone call in between all the other things going on.

MrsBartlet · 06/12/2015 18:00

Sorry your dd is ill Coatandhat but glad you have her home. I am so looking forward to 5 weeks with dd where we can talk at a leisurely pace instead off rushed skype calls or texts! We went out last night and got home just after midnight. I finally ventured into dd's bedroom after midday today and woke her up! I think she is catching up on 9 weeks of very late nights.

Fairenuff · 06/12/2015 18:08

They have been working very hard and what a lot of changes they've coped over the last few weeks. No wonder some of them are so very tired/ill.

Dd has only had to complete three assessed pieces of work so far. One has yet to be marked, the others were a 1st and a 2nd. I think she said she has two more to complete this week then she's packing up her washing and coming home Xmas Grin

hellsbells99 · 06/12/2015 18:10

DD1 came home last night just for the night and she is exhausted too. She is full of cold and has conjunctivitis. She is now not going back until tomorrow as she does have any lectures until 1pm. I have got her some eye drops and she is looking a bit better. On the brighter side, we have put up our Christmas tree!
Enjoy having your DCs home Coatandhat and MrsB!

GypsyFl0ss · 06/12/2015 18:55

DD has acquired another cold and I think the next fortnignt are going to be a bit of a slog for her. I'm really looking forward to having her home but can't quite believe they've nearly all done their first term!

Cooroo · 07/12/2015 06:49

DD finishes on 17th. On Thursdays she goes to a venue where they sing (is there a name for this?) - she and a pianist friend usually do something - Evanescence, Metallica and such like - so I'm going to go travel there Thursday evening and join them. Haven't seen her sing in public since she was 11 so I'm quite excited! Then we've booked a hotel overnight and I'll bring her back Friday. Lots of adjusting to do this term, seems to be keeping up with coursework (just), sleeping at all the wrong times, finished with BF at home, struggling to be friends with boys who want to make it more. She's always had close friends who are boys, I guess it just gets harder?

Hopefully she'll get some holiday work in the shop where she worked in the summer. No accommodation plans for next year yet.

sassymuffin · 07/12/2015 14:48

DD is home and slept for 15 hours straight after gong to bed at 7.45pm last night. She is giving herself today off before she starts all her reading and other work.
Her freshly cleaned room now looks like a storage locker with all the various boxes and bags but I'm so happy she is home for 5 weeks.

Hi mumslife, doesn't she have exams in January?

Decorhate · 08/12/2015 21:40

Counting down the days now till dd gets home. She has an essay to do over the holidays but no January exams.

PUGaLUGS · 08/12/2015 21:50

DS home a week today! He has his new timetable for next term - he starts back on the 18th Jan but unfortunately has an exam on the 8th. He is going to get the train back just for the exam and then come home again. None of his housemates will be there.

I have painted his room, hopefully he will like it.

DD doesn't finish until 5.30pm on the 18th. She has got her exam timetable for January and is going through all the lectures online again. A lot of her flatmates are going home a couple of days earlier. Secret Santa and flat meal planned for next Monday but a weekend of partying first!
