After not hearing from DD all weekend, she has just text to say she may come home next weekend - her friend is having a leaving party before going off travelling!
mumslife I wouldn't worry too much as it is a long time until they finish uni and a lot may happen before then! DD has managed to see boyfriend nearly every weekend even if it is only for one night.....but I am not anticipating it to last for the next 4 years.

Haffdonga · 22/11/2015 19:01

Bit worried. DS told me he was ill a couple of weeks ago (weak, exhausted, dizzy, aches). He finally managed to pull himself to get to the GP who hummed and hahed and mentioned something 'energy-related' after glandular fever he had in September. The symptoms match chronic fatigue .

On the phone ds only says 'I'm fine mum. Stop worrying. but we went to see him yesterday and take him out for lunch and he is thin and very pale.

I want to wrap him up, take him home and feed him. Sad

notafanofwinter · 22/11/2015 19:08

It's horrid when they're ill Haff, you'll have a month to feed him up over Christmas.
I'm looking forward to seeing DS but slightly dreading the trail of laundry, empty fridge and his lying in bed until lunchtime, I'd sort of forgotten.

MrsBartlet · 22/11/2015 19:23

Oh that is horrible Haffdonga - he'll be home soon and you can take care of him.

Enjoy having your dd at home next weekend, hellsbells!

Quietlygoingmad67 · 22/11/2015 19:34

haff - keep an eye on him when you have him home for xmas - my DD13 has a diagnosis of CFS after suspected GF followed by flu which she hasn't ever recovered from!

Quietlygoingmad67 · 22/11/2015 19:36

*DD is aged 13 not that I have 13 DD's! God forbid - can you imagine ally those hormones under one roof!!

Horsemad · 22/11/2015 19:38

Mine's just called to say our visit next week to see him can't happen as he'll be away with the University Air Squadron.

Will be 19th now before he's home.

Sorry to hear about your DS Haff, hope a couple of weeks at home will sort him out and get him on the mend.

Molio · 22/11/2015 20:08

Quietly yes I can imagine that, almost!

Sorry to hear about your poorly DS Haff - hopefully Christmas will sort him out; not long to go.

AugustRose · 22/11/2015 20:22

Sorry to hear about your DS Haff, DH had something similar to glandular fever a few years ago and he felt awful for about a month, however I did read that it can leave you feeling pretty poorly for months. I think DC's don't always know the best way to look after themselves when they are poorly with everything going on around them. Hopefully he will pick up when he is at home being fed and looked after.

Haffdonga · 22/11/2015 21:31

Thanks for the kind thoughts, folks. It's nice to be able to share my wobbles with people who understand here. Really looking forward to Christmas this year. Smile

How is the house hunting going for those organised enough to be signing up already? DS seems to be in a large group of friends hoping to share an enormous house together. He tells me it's the girls who have done all the planning and organising, while the boys have just gone along with the plans. Feminist mother failure here . Hmm

hellsbells99 · 22/11/2015 22:22

Hope ur DS is feeling a bit better Hoff
I daren't asked DD about house hunting as I am not convinced she will see the course through. I am just putting my head in the sand for now and will see what happens.

Mindgone · 23/11/2015 01:03

DS has signed up and paid a deposit already! I think it's way too early, but what can you do? I don't want him to be left behind from the rest of the group!

glitterwobbles · 23/11/2015 11:42

Hi all.sorry haven't been on line had a stressful couple of weeks.. DS at home as didn't get health clearance for placement as hadn't seen neurologist. Now seen a neurologist who wants his go to adjust his medication.s . Great but now have go at uni and DS here. It's nice to have him here so I know he's ok but don't know what's happening next and if he will be able to carry on with his course. Just getting through each day as it comes .

hellsbells99 · 23/11/2015 13:40

Hello Glitter - I hope your DS is ok and you manage to sort things out

PUGaLUGS · 23/11/2015 19:29

Hope your DS feels better soon Haff

glitter sorry to hear about your DS and you sort things out quickly.

DS has booked his train ticket to come home on the 15th Dec. Am looking forward to seeing him. All of his flatmates are leaving to go home on that day too. I suspect they want to party the weekend before.

bigbluebus · 24/11/2015 20:37

Sorry for those of you whose DCs are struggling healthwise.
We went to visit DS at the weekend. He had initially said we couldn't go near his halls but we needed somewhere to leave our suitcases after checking out of the hotel. He apparently tidied up in honour of our visit - he had 3 black bin bags of waste Hmm. Can't say the room looked tidy so goodness knows what it looked like before!
It is his birthday tomorrow, Will be strange not being with him. Hopefully he will ring to thank us for the presents we left for him. He is going out clubbing with some of his course group to a nightclub 1 1/2 hours away - can't see him being up for lectures the next morning.
He is coming home on 19th for Christmas if he manages to print boarding pass, get himself to the airport and remembers to take his passport Hmm

lalamumto3 · 25/11/2015 08:55

Sorry to hear about your Dcs who are struggling with their health. Glad to hear that many are settling in.

My dd has been poorly all term on and off, with tonsilitus, she is going to have them out as they are so bad, but consultant wants her to be infection free so will be in the new year and she will have to miss the first week of term. At least if it is planned she can let her lecturers know. We had hoped to wait until Easter, but she cried and said the thought of another term feeling so ill was not fair and the uni GP is in agreement. Haff The uni GP retested her for glandular fever, as she had it last year, so may be worth looking into that.
We popped up to see her last week, removed 1 black bag of rubbish from her room, helped her tidy, filled her fridge and freezer. Amazed to find she put the hoover round that night after we left.
My sister is a uni lecturer and she says they are only half cooked at as adults at this stage :)

seimum · 25/11/2015 21:26

Spoke to DS yesterday. The Internet in their halls was down all weekend, so he couldn't do any work (apparently). But he did go for a walk in the countryside on Sunday (to a pub with WiFi of course!)
There is going to be a room inspection in their halls this week - but he tells me he had already used the Hoover (so at least once more than my DD1 ever did) and has cleaned his ensuite - so we shall see

Horsemad · 25/11/2015 21:28

DS had a room inspection, all OK - I'm amazed at that, I can tell you!! Grin

PUGaLUGS · 26/11/2015 15:10

DS going on Saturday and Monday to look at houses for sharing. That'll be more money needed then for deposits...

bigbluebus · 26/11/2015 19:49

Don't think DS would pass a room inspection, although at the moment they'd be struggling to see anything as the light bulb has blown and DS isn't sure if it's his job to change it or maintenance. Says he can't see anything on the maintenance website so thinks it might be his job but in spite of doing and engineering degree, he seems incapable of removing said light bulb and going across to the shop on campus to purchase a new one Hmm

DS also says he hasn't got a clue when he needs to start looking for houses/accomodation for next year and has no idea what the supply/demand is like.

Quietlygoingmad67 · 28/11/2015 01:09

Excited - going to visit DD for a xmas shop and look at all the pretty london lights! Have threatened my DD with a room inspection - she said she would meet me at the train station!! Lol

Cooroo · 28/11/2015 08:41

Enjoy your day Quietly! I'm visiting DD today too. Taking a case for when she comes back on 20th then out for lunch. Dropping her in Sheffield as she's going to a gig and then she's going on to the club where that poor student was last seen. She'll be with friends all the way thank god. Will be good to have a catch up - last FB message was all about carrots so sounds as if she's getting domesticated!

No word at all about accommodation next year - I feel like everyone else is sorted.

vodkaredbullgirl · 29/11/2015 20:30

Sorry not been on for awhile, went to see dd and took her to cardiff shopping. She says she is so knackered and spend her time off either studying or sleeping. Think this term has taken its toll, nearly 11 wks of non stop studying, no week break.

muffinmonster · 30/11/2015 10:02

Went to see DD on Saturday and check out the Christmas market. Was actually really impressed at the state of her room - she had obviously done a major cleanup in preparation for my visit.

She has got some casual work on one of the Christmas market stalls and is thinking of staying up for the last weekend before Christmas in order to work some extra shifts.

She and some flatmates have applied for rooms in a student residence just off campus for next year - they're hoping to get together two flats of five people each.
