Yep, she's taking her Halls place from January. Ah well, like you say she'll not be so far away I guess. Still a bit sad for me but exciting for her!

Horsemad · 16/11/2015 17:30

Crikey Bird!! Shock Still, at least he does now know about them Grin

Amazing, it will be a little bit sad, but there are advantages to them moving out... Wink

Dd is already in a house group for next year, all people she currently lives with. There are 7 girls and 5 boys from the floor below. They've found a house with 12 rooms, two kitchens and several bathrooms and have first refusal on it. But there are apparently 4000 more beds than students so university housing have told them to hold on until after Christmas. Two of the people are currently a couple which could change before next year and may become an issue.

Can anyone remember the name of the company/ website where each occupant pays their share of the bills directly so no one ends up with sole responsibility? There have been some tales of housemates not paying up recently.

BirdintheWings · 17/11/2015 13:12

I'm now wondering what else he doesn't know about, Horsemad!

Horsemad · 17/11/2015 13:20

Something like 'SplitBills' mrsrhodgilbert. There is another also but can't remember that one. Probably be on Google? In fact, I saw a banner for Split Bill on MN only yesterday.

Horsemad · 17/11/2015 13:21

Bird, hopefully it has prompted his organiser to check everything out!

Zetetic · 17/11/2015 13:55

My dd is going to see a student house on Saturday and has already organised her group for next year.

She is the Mary Poppins of our family and everything is always just so and spit spot. She has probably been driving her flat mates nuts sorting it all out. Grin If this weather continues she can probably travel there by umbrella too.

Horsemad · 17/11/2015 14:03

Grin that made me LOL Zetetic!!

Katkat50 · 17/11/2015 14:04

There's another company called 'Glide' that looks after bill-splitting.... My DS says he's heard negative things about them and that bills end up costing far more than they should. Fingers crossed our DC use a bit of common sense in dealing with what's to come!

Hocus

Zetetic · 18/11/2015 18:37

She has even wangled a free car lift from the agency to collect them on Saturday!

Headofthehive55 · 18/11/2015 18:57

bird well at least he knows about them now. It's only a tutorial. I failed to get myself to school for one of my A Level papers! Blush

Just to say I'm missing my daughter tonight and this feels really pathetic. She visited briefly last weekend, I know she's doing fine and that I'll be seeing her again in a relatively short period of time.

It's just that I thought the freedom of not being a hands-on parent would be great. Instead part of me just feels rather lost.

Quietlygoingmad67 · 21/11/2015 22:43

marrianne - I know exactly how you feel. Luckily for me my DD has come home the last two weekends - she has been struggling abit and needed some mummy time. I am always so much happier when she is here - forgotten how LOUD and MESSY she is though!!
Wink

hellsbells99 · 22/11/2015 09:48

It's very quiet here too. DD1 is coming home for Xmas on the 19th but we are going to see her this week as DD2 has so an applicant day at the same university. I normally get lots of texts but I haven't had any since Friday as she has friends staying at the moment.
It's been a roller coaster first term with several wobbles.

MrsBartlet · 22/11/2015 10:16

Feeling the same here Marianne. Dd is very happy but I just miss her being around. It has hit me much harder than I thought it would. Can't wait for her to come home for Christmas!

Molio · 22/11/2015 10:40

Marianne curiously I had a dream on Friday night about those of mine who've flown the nest and yesterday for the first time used that phrase to describe how I felt - that I do actually miss them being physically here.

MarianneSolong · 22/11/2015 11:09

Oh good, I'm glad it's not just me. Though obviously I hope everybody is getting on well in their daily lives etc etc.

DS has been home for the weekend. He had his room in Halls inspected last week and a notice was left on his desk with 'your bathroom isn't clean enough'. He was incensed because apparently he used one of the bathroom wipes that I sent him with. One wipe since September Blush.
The boy is a half wit.

MrsBartlet · 22/11/2015 17:42

Lol notafanofwinter. When we last visited dd I couldn't resist the urge to wipe round dd's bathroom with several of the wipes we sent her with and squirt loo cleaner down the loo. I did notice that not many of the wipes had been used!

I have just written to dd again which I am loving and she loves going to her pigeon hole and finding something there. When dh and I had only been going out for 3 months I had to go to Australia for a gap year and as it was the days before mobile phones, email, the internet and such like we wrote to one another all the time and it was a lovely way of feeling connected. I would get so excited when I checked the post and there was a letter from him although some days there would be nothing and a few days later I would get three letters all at once. Feeling very nostalgic now!

AugustRose · 22/11/2015 18:07

Hope you are all well and coping in the absence of DC's. notafanofwinter that's funny - DS's bathroom is covered in black fluff from his towels, despite them being washed several times.

DS has settled much better after his visit home, he took his record player with him as he said there is a vinyl market that he was missing out on! He also changed one of his seminars - not the subject just the group he was in - as he didn't feel they were taking part/getting anywhere. He e-mailed today to say they change was brilliant and he has caught up with so much he had missed in the other group.

He sounds really good, he has done his Christmas shopping and just needs to wrap it all. He did say although his room is warm the main living area is cold as the radiator isn't working and hasn't been fixed despite them asking 3 times.

I am missing him less now after his visit, and I must admit it is nice not to have the constant griping he had with DD1 (13), although she does it to DD2 and DS2 now!
