vodkaredbullgirl · 02/10/2015 22:25

My dd is home for the wkend, she wants me to take her food shopping tomorrow lol. I will be driving her back sunday as she has more stuff to take.

lalamumto3 · 02/10/2015 22:46

Hi Figment, so sorry to hear about your mum. I was in the same situation in December, it is very hard to balance your children's needs when you are trying to spend as much time as possible with your mum.

I remember having the same kind if logistical thoughts.

Thinking of you.

Headofthehive55 · 02/10/2015 23:36

figment sorry to hear your news. Flowers.
And sugar ouch. Hope your DD is ok.

MrsBartlet · 03/10/2015 07:14

Good luck to all those going today. Dd seems like a 5 year old who doesn't want to start school. Let's hope university helps her to grow up a bit and become more independent. I wish she would focus on how lucky she is!

boys3 · 03/10/2015 07:23

Mrs b Walked past your DD's college yesterday & the front quad was festooned with chabby chic bunting to welcome all the freshers in - she'll love it :)

cathyandclaire · 03/10/2015 07:52

Figment, so sorry to hear about your MumFlowers
Good luck to all those dropping off today. We made a very early start and are on the A1, hoping to get DD into her room before the masses arrive and everyone sees the embarrassingly huge amount of stuff she has. Bedding alone seemed to fill the boot. We shall get a good work out lugging it all upstairs!

Fellfan · 03/10/2015 07:57

Good luck to those moving their DC this weekend! Thursday went well for us, though any thought of downsizing the car has disappeared as we will never get the stuff home again if we do! Car packed from floor to ceiling... And still there are things forgotten. DS sending texts and snap chatting sisters as per usual.... Hoping this will continue once the work begins.

MrsBartlet · 03/10/2015 07:59

How lovely boys3! She loves a bit of bunting (has some for her room!) so hopefully that will cheer her up.

Good luck cathy - I am mortified about how much stuff dd is taking so you are not on your own. Dh is just about to start grappling with the bike rack Grin

About to depart. Last minute wardrobe malfunction involving daughter's skinny jeans suddenly acquiring a three-inch rip around the crutch.

lalamumto3 · 03/10/2015 08:49

We are in process of departing car also packed full and daughter is finding more stuff ……...

Molio · 03/10/2015 09:08

I'm taking DS up tomorrow and I'm delighted to say he only has three boxes plus a suit for matriculation plus bedding. Fine with me especially since his room number suggests he's on the fourth floor - at least it has a '5' in it.

I really, really like the glimpses we've seen of your house Marianne - quite envious, certainly of the radiator and even of the rug. And very nice colour paint on the barge boards (which DH was obscuring slightly Grin).

Hope it goes well for all those arriving today.

circular · 03/10/2015 09:23

Good luck to all those taking DC this weekend.

Hope all those with DC home for the weekend have a great time.

Sugar hope your DDs OK.

DD been in contact a fair bit, first week of proper lectures seemed to be fine, though doesn't seem to be doing much work outside of that. Never was a great independent learner, so hardly surprising the module she seems like the most (apart from performance) is the one where they get set specific tasks to complete. Think she has a steep learning curve, as half her course won't be like that. Will need to learn the hard way now, when she gets feedback from first assignments I guess.

Fairenuff · 03/10/2015 10:37

Good luck to everyone moving in over the last/next few days, hope it all goes smoothly.

hellsbells99 · 03/10/2015 10:57

Good luck to everyone going this weekend.
It seems like DD has been gone for ages now. I get regular text messages and so far, so good. Her course is full-on so she is being kept busy during the week. Her friend has been to visit for a night and her boyfriend is visiting now, plus she has arranged to go and visit another friend next week.

vodkaredbullgirl · 03/10/2015 12:08

My dd said someone at her uni was treated for meningitis, so make sure you dc has been vaccinated. Luckly my dd managed to get her injection the day before she left.

boatashore · 03/10/2015 12:25

which uni is she at? didn't manage to get DD jabs before she left, the health clinic on campus said they would be offering the men vaccines to freshers, but not yet, and now she is down with "freshers flu" so probably not the best time to be getting injections.

vodkaredbullgirl · 03/10/2015 12:30

She is at South Wales uni, 1 at pontipridd the girl that has it didnt have the injection. They had a talk about meningitis at uni and were offering it to students who didnt have it.

Hope your dd feels better, luckly my dd didnt catch anything in her freshers week.

sassymuffin · 03/10/2015 13:22

DD has matriculated this morning and is exhausted with all the events going on. She has an interview with the uni law society this afternoon, pre drinks and then a three course meal this evening. At this rate she will sleep for a week when she comes home at Christmas.

Good luck to all DC arriving at their university this weekend.

bigbluebus · 03/10/2015 13:31

Am Envy of those whose DCs are home visiting already this weekend. We won't see DS until mid-Nov (8 weeks after he left home) when we have arranged a trip (flights) to see him. It will then be a further 5 weeks before he comes home for Christmas Sad
Managed to speak to him last night - apparently he was too busy to ring as he was doing some work Hmm . He says it was ok as it was just a repeat of stuff they did at A level. Problems getting in touch with him via whatsapp now as wifi is not good (he says) and we've told him to turn his mobile data off as DH has discovered something is eating massive amounts of his data allowance daily (far more than DS could ever use in FB or even You Tube) so until DS can find out what is running that is using up his allowance he needs to keep data off.
cathyandclaire for future ref, those vaccuum bags are your friend for packing bedding into the car. I flat packed DS's pillows and duvet with the covers already on them.
Safe journeys to all those travelling today and hope your DCs settle in soon.

SugarDiabetes · 03/10/2015 13:34

My dumped DD is quite philosophical about it. She said she was sad, but her flat mates were doing cake and sympathy. I'm really pleased to know they have a support network already, even after a few weeks.

She texted later to say she had just had a lecture on DNA which was "far more interesting than he was" so I think she'll be ok!!

Part of me is quite pleased that he didn't leave her hanging on (he was a nice kid) and now she can take full advantage of boys uni.

vodkaredbullgirl · 03/10/2015 13:41

Sugar what is you dd studying, mine is doing forensic biology.
