GypsyFl0ss · 13/09/2015 12:51

Thankyou Chilly

Bagpuss555 · 13/09/2015 12:57

Are you enjoying being child free? Dh has been eyeing up all the 2 for 1 offers at restraunts and short break deals that we will be able to do once dd goes Hmm. Not like he's thinking dd was the spare wheel or anything??

Bagpuss555 · 13/09/2015 12:58

Meant to say are you enjoying being child free today chilly since I realise not everyone is empty nestSmile

HMF1 · 13/09/2015 12:59

Sitting here forcing myself not to text DS 1 to ask how he is getting on & if he had a good time last night.

Horsemad · 13/09/2015 13:04

HMF1, when DS was in S Africa earlier in the summer, I didn't hear from him for two and a half weeks, it was very strange.

PUGaLUGS · 13/09/2015 13:35

HMF1 oh god me too. Am feeling really bereft Sad. I keep wanting to cry more today (haven't done trying to keep the tears at bay)

muffinmonster · 13/09/2015 13:36

Thanks for the new thread, chilly.

I just want this to be done. I feel like I will be adding to the to-do lists forever. Bags and boxes are piling u in DD's room. Saturday is the big day. Seems very close now that there's no weekend between us and IT.

Bagpuss555 · 13/09/2015 13:43

Dh has just come with a problem. Anyone here knows? Basically If your DC accomodation came with broadband. Did you have to buy a router to get wi-fi?? Or router already included.

HMF1 · 13/09/2015 13:46

I am making soup & big dinner For DS 2&3 for after their sailing regatta, I really didn't expect to feel like this as I still have 2 at home. Horsemad I will definetly break silence before 2&a half weeks as I am in Edinburgh for work on the 29th & he has agreed to meet me for dinner. I know he will be fine .

HMF1 · 13/09/2015 14:10

PUGaLUGs It will get better, transitions are always difficult, I just keep reminding myself this is about him & his future & it's what mum's are supposed to do. Doesn't make it easy though, hugs & chocolate or whatever you comfort is to get through this period.

bigbluebus · 13/09/2015 14:34

bagpuss I am not IT expert but DS has Wifi in his room (although he doesn't go untl next Sat) and we haven't bought him a router. He has a box full of computer equipment which has been supplied by DSA and no router included - which given that part of the reason for him getting it is so that he can work in the 'quiet' of his own room, would be fairly pointless if he needed a router to access the wifi.

MossAgate · 13/09/2015 14:38

Router definitely not needed in university halls. My older dc needed to buy an extra long Ethernet cable though.

Bagpuss555 · 13/09/2015 14:56

Thanks MossAgate and bigbluebus DH is thinking broadband set up at uni will be like home. He didn't realise it's more like the free WiFi set up you get in hotels, get a password and hey presto connected. As long as the equipment is WiFi enabled is fine. Panic over Grin

sassymuffin · 13/09/2015 15:08

DD has been sent the theme for her first fresher fancy dress party
It is "when I was little I wanted to be a ....." So she has bought an Air hostess fancy dress costume off eBay.

All seems to be getting very real after reading about some of you dropping DC's off already!

GypsyFl0ss · 13/09/2015 15:42

sassymuffin DD's first themed night is an army bop so she ordered an Amazon army girl outfit. The " sexy " in the description who should have rung some alarm bells...it was about 4 inches squared and sheerer than my granny's net curtains! So that went back by return post and we are no closer to finding something that actually covers her arse Grin

For those of you that have bought printers what did you buy and was it easy enough to set up? What about running costs?

mrsrhodgilbert · 13/09/2015 15:56

We haven't bought a printer for dd2. Her older sister, about to go into yr3 reckons she shouldn't need one and to check the university provision first.

stonecircle · 13/09/2015 16:14

We bought a printer - an HP deskjet - from Asda. £35 plus set of cartridges for £15. Didn't set it up for DS though - thought he ought to be able to manage that! Noticed that the hall he's in though has printing facilities - albeit 10p per sheet.

sassymuffin · 13/09/2015 16:27

GypsyFl0s that made me giggle...I shall have to preview DDs costume to check but DD is tiny so hopefully her costume will give moderate coverage Grin

Bought DD a wireless HP printer from Currys for £50. It has the new instant ink supply. You pay various amounts per month for ink ie £3.49 pays for 100 sheets per month (you can carry them over of you dont use) when your ink runs low you automatically have more cartridges sent out to you. There are no postage charges, you can send them your used cartridges for recycling for free and you can amend your usage plan at any time.

We were not going to get a printer but her college 'parents' said they are needed for her course. Many students are writing essays into the middle of the night. Having to get up really early to bike it over to her college library for the printers would usually result in missing the start of a lecture as her accommodation is two minutes away from the law faculty.

MissDemelzaCarne · 13/09/2015 16:40

That sounds great easymuffin, DS's DSA assessment recommended he had his own printer.

GypsyFl0ss · 13/09/2015 16:42

Great thanks. I'll check out the HP ones.

LapsedPacifist · 13/09/2015 17:09

Hurrah! DS has finally started chatting on FB with 3 girls from his floor who will be his neighbours! They are comparing their respective arrival times and bemoaning the lack of kettle, toaster, ironing board etc Hmm. Am really not impressed with the lack of basic kitchen equipment - these are expensive ensuite rooms.

LapsedPacifist · 13/09/2015 17:17

Anyone else feeling overwhelmed? We spent the weekend buying DS new clothes and shoes and kitchen stuff, but still seem to have heaps left to get. Lay awake last night muttering 'Sieve, bedside light, door-stop, stackable storage boxes, new rucksack, stationery - OMG! STATIONERY!, passport photos, toiletries, exam certificates - OMG ! WHERE ARE THE CERTIFICATES?? Shock ad infinitum... Hmm

Horsemad · 13/09/2015 17:21

Snap Lapsed! I'm jotting things down on a pad beside my bed when I wake in the early hours Grin

Thunderblunder · 13/09/2015 17:26

DD1 went on Friday. So far she's found the student union bar to watch football in and went yesterday with one of her flat mates to watch Man Utd v Liverpool. She's been in a group chat with them on Facebook since she found out which accommodation she is in so they kind of know each other already.
