17 days to go. Anyone else getting nervous about A level results day?

All the evidence suggests he'll get the grades he need for his first choice. But logic doesn't count for much at these times, in my experience, going all the way back to my own results days!

Thank you LM yes, he logged on to Track at about 8.30 and saw he was confirmed then went into school and found he'd cleaned up with 6 A*'s (if you count the EP, which I intend to :)). Very pleased for him. Was very pleased to see your DS's news too: hope he has a great three years; I'm sure he will :). All DS's friends are ok too with their offers, so it's a good day all round.

6 A*s! Blimey, well done him, particularly as it seems to have been a harder year to pull that off.

Yes, that's the next thing to worry about - will he actually like it after all this effort to get there! I think he will, but only time will tell. No one in the family has gone there before so it's a little bit of a leap into the unknown.

Quite a few of DD's friends got accepted with lower grades this year and their were lots of smiles all round so it was lovely to see.

Track still hasn't updated as unconditional. Bit cruel I thought as we were assured that we could find out this morning before setting off. Anyway it's all forgotten about once my headache goes.

Yellowtip. Fantastic results for your DS. He couldn't have done any better.

quirrelquarrel did you get into your firm?

creamteas · 16/08/2012 21:13

Just back home after a very long day doing clearing. Glad to hear of lots of your DC doing well.

This year we had a lot less students get their grades than usual, with many students dropping two grades.

We have made clearing offers for all our quota places, but have 500 places for AAB students that are empty. We could easily have filled them with students with good A levels if we were allowed Sad.

We have an open day tomorrow for clearing students, but the phones will have died down.

iamamug · 16/08/2012 21:33

Hi Creamteas - I am obviously very pleased my DS is in with BBB but his conditional was for AAB so am confused. Will his uni be fined or do you think they had too few students with high enough grades for the places?

creamteas · 16/08/2012 22:27

iamamug When we moved to this new system, they looked at the amount of AAB students in the past and usually reduced your quota places by just less than this. All unis have places for non AAB students, but the amount varies. So top unis have very few, whilst unis that rarely had any AAB students anyway would not have lost any places.

I would think that your DC's uni had enough quota places to be able to accept him. We accepted some students who had missed their AAB grades, but couldn't take as many as we might have done in previous years,

iamamug · 16/08/2012 22:49

Thanks Creamteas - you must have had a very busy day! Very complicated system..

quirrelquarrel · 19/08/2012 17:23

Cinnamon- yeah, I did, but I changed my mind quite suddenly before results day and decided to go for a uni near London :-) luckily I could do it through adjustment not clearing, so it was much quicker. It's really not as good as my firm re: rankings, but much better in lots of ways! how did your results go? Was it Chemistry you were worried about?
