I am thrilled that my granddaugher (21 months) today gave me the wonderful name of Biyer (hence my nickname). Not sure how she gets there from grandma or how we spell it but at least I know she really knows me.

What do your grandkids call you that is different.

My mum gets called Ganny and my dad was Bampah (cute!)

hollyhobbie · 09/11/2007 17:54

My parents are granny and pop pop, DH's parents are Sue and Dave! (should really be Grandma Sue and Grandpa Dave, but that's just too long).
It is funny to hear DD just calling her grandfather, 'Dave'.

tortoise · 09/11/2007 17:59

hollyhobbie My Granddad is Pop Pop too.
My Dad is Grampy for my DC. It was Gramps but my DS1 couldn't say it and called him Pants . Of course then it was panty! My Mum is Nanna.

Evenhope · 09/11/2007 18:22

I used to call my granddad Bless. His name was Les

nightshade · 09/11/2007 18:34

my 18 mth dd has just started calling my mum 'gaggy'.

she never wanted to be a granny so i think this suites!

Bienchen · 09/11/2007 19:00

Ex DP's mother wanted to be called Gloria. She felt at nearly 60 she was far tooy young looking to be called Gran or similar

Becsx · 09/11/2007 20:38

I am proud to be Grandma. But she is not old enough to call me anything yet. Maybe she will have other ideas. She has different ideas about everything so far. Doesn't think she should sleep, not walk etc etc. She's 8mth going on 18.

Ilovenutella · 10/11/2007 19:23

I called my grandfather Gag-gag (similar to yours Nightshade!) it started with my older cousin who couldn't say granddad. Aren't these names lovely . Both sets of grandfathers have now passed away for my DD so we might adopt one to get some more cute names!

VonnyB · 11/11/2007 14:33

This is my first time on this site, mine call me Nannie... ie and the other Nanny ..y, that is how they tell us apart.

eandh · 12/11/2007 20:32

my dd1 call my parents mum nanny and grandad xxx (his name) and pil is nanny gaggle (dd1 did weird proniunciation of her name) and grandad but they also have 4 great nans and a great grandad so life gets very confusing for her

Hulababy · 12/11/2007 20:35

Both sets of grandparents are called Nana and Grandad here.

Olihan · 12/11/2007 20:36

We have Granny and Papa as ds1 couldn't manage Grandpa, so Papa stuck.

DH's Grandad was always known as Graggy because BIL got confused between Grandad and Daddy when he was tiny. When they got older he became Grag, which is really nice, imo.

popsycal · 12/11/2007 20:38

DS2 calls both of his grandads 'Yanya' lthough I noticed him saying grandad earlier today which made me

My niece (now 5) used to call my mum (her grandma) 'Baboo' for a long time which then morphed somehow into Barbara (my mum's name is not Barbara or any close approximation of it!!!!)

popsycal · 12/11/2007 20:40

Oh yes - and ds1 somehow decided to call both grandads 'Grandad firstname'. Which they luckily did not mind. He also calls MIL Nana firstname. Grandma (my mum) is the only one without a firstname attached for some unknown reason.

random · 12/11/2007 20:41

My oldest grandson 4 called me bobar and now the youngest one 2 calls me that too

Ilovenutella · 13/11/2007 20:30

Oh I like Bobar - what a sweet name!

GranMutti · 14/11/2007 12:34

My DGS hopefully will call me Granny (he's only 8 months)when he can and will call DH Grandpa. I must say I like Bobar, what is it short for? My DD and DS used to call my father gangang and still fall about laughing when they hear that name!

Grandbiyer · 14/11/2007 18:05

Love Bobar name and all the lovely names.Grand-dad is still waiting on his name, will let you know whenever. latest news, thrilled to announce the arrival of our 2nd grandaughter Emily Sarah 13th November. The joy of being blessed as Grandparents and being part of this tiny persons world is amazing. Now a case of cuddling and caring for two tinies and big sister Rebecca 22 months is lovingly gentle (so far) with this " living dolly" . Anyone had recent additions and stories of siblings.

random · 14/11/2007 19:54

Oldest grandson couldnt say grandma when he was just learning to talk hence bobar..and it just kind of stuck

lottiejenkins · 15/11/2007 16:23

My ds is 11 and profoundly deaf, he cant say Granny, he calls my mum Graggy!
You can imagine how much she loves hearing him shout that all over the supermarket!!

IdrisTheDragon · 15/11/2007 16:26

I used to call my mum's mum Gangy (as did everyone else ).

DS and DD both say Granny and Grandpa.

Grandbiyer · 17/11/2007 13:53

The names Ganma and Ganpa are now being said, but my grand daughter still refers to me as Biyer. I hope it lasts as I love it.

I am step-nanny-to-be to twins due May.. and they are going to call me Nanny-Shiny (Well sort of.. my name really but I quite like the sound of "nanny-Shiny" )

I will be just 36 by then

MamaD · 03/12/2007 16:29

We have a Nana Wales with Daida (Dh's) and a Nana Knitting with Grampsy (mine).

My SIL became a granny at 33 and swore she didn't want to be a Nana or Gran - She ended up as 'Lady' (and 8 yrs on this still hasn't changed)
