What do your grandchildren call you

I am thrilled that my granddaugher (21 months) today gave me the wonderful name of Biyer (hence my nickname). Not sure how she gets there from grandma or how we spell it but at least I know she really knows me.

What do your grandkids call you that is different.

My DD who is 2 calls her Grandads 'Nana' - it makes me smile alot!

Granny22 · 05/12/2007 22:32

Our Grandson, who is almost 10 months, has 2 Grandmothers and 2 Grandfathers. We all had a serious discussion last Christmas as to what we would like to be called and agreed on Granny + first name and Grandad + firstname. Unfortunately, DGS was not present at this meeting and so far seems to adress us all (and his favourite monkey toy) as Gangdadadada.... However as his favourite playmate seems to be my DH, we have given hime the honorary title of GRANPAL which seems to have stuck. So much so that the whole family now calls him Granpal all the time. The sons-out-law never knew what to call him so this helps them too.

Lilybeto · 12/11/2008 14:45

My nephew calls my mum Oonie and my dad Michaels. My DPs grandparents are known by everyone as lally and landaddy.

shabster · 12/11/2008 14:54

Popsycal - your LO almost got the Greek word for Grandma there!!! Grandma is YA YA and Grandad is PAPOOSE. My grandson (1st grandchild) is only 5 months old but I told my son I want his little lad to call me Ya Ya!! He just gave me that look and said 'You only go to Rhodes every year on holiday - you're not piggin' Greek mum!!'

So I guess I will be Grandma - mind you I'm looking after him full time after Christmas so will see what I can teach him

pranma · 28/03/2009 14:40

We have a Grandfather here! Oh, and a Nana-no-stairs (lives in a bungalow, obviously)

Mummyfor3 · 28/03/2009 14:48

DS1 started calling my parents "Momi" and "Babu" - no idea where he got these from - and they stuck!

meltedmarsbars · 28/03/2009 14:51

Pranma - my nephews have two grandpas, one with a beard with a knot. They are, respectively
Grandpa and
Grandpa know-not!

My dc's have a Czech grandmother who is "Baba" for Babicka

angelene · 28/03/2009 14:54

My mum is Granny, sometimes Granny Bridge. ILs are Nanny and Grandad.

DD is very good at saying the whole name - so my grandparents are Great Granny and Great Grandad and she never seems to shorten them, they love it.

ROFL at Nana-no-stairs!

Rosa · 28/03/2009 15:00

My father is Pam Pam from Grandchild No1 and its stuck ....

leylandmommar · 05/05/2011 16:43

Hi 2 of my granddaughters call me mommar the latest one only 3months so i will have to wait and see the 2 call my mum supergran instead of great grandma which i think is quiet sweet

glammanana · 07/05/2011 15:28

My grandchildren call me "nana" and my DH gets called "grandy" which i
think is nice

ChunkyMonkeyMother · 12/06/2011 21:24

I have a Nan and a Mum who both wanted to be 'Nanny' to my DS 22months - so my Mum is 'Nanny' and my Nan is 'Nanny Moo' (Because she is a bit of a battleaxe ha ha) my DS now affectionately calls her 'Moo' which she loves it.
My Dad is also 'Gogog' which he thinks is brilliant, thankfully we don't see the inlaws too often to be confusing, although MIL is 'Nanna' and FIL is straight up 'Grandad'. I think that something more personalised is very heart-warming, although a right pain in the bum when it comes to birthday cards/fathers day/etc ha ha Thank-God for moon-pig/funky-pidgeon etc!

flatbellyfella · 14/02/2012 08:38

:D

whojamaflip · 16/04/2012 21:52

My guys have a Nanny Knit Knit, a Nanny Katherin and a Gran-dan.

When I was little we had Grandad and Nannie and Granny and Gank

zipzap · 16/04/2012 23:10

I couldn't say granny or grandpa when I was little but tried really hard and managed Gra and Bampi for my grandparents on my mum's side which is what they stayed as for ever - and all subsequent grandchildren called them that too, as well as any visiting friends or relations from my dad's side.

They both worked really well as a granny/grandad name but because they are so unique to them (may they RIP - both reaching their 90s) my mum has become a granny rather than another Gra.

fortysecondstreethoofer · 26/01/2013 16:12

My grandchildren call me Mimi and my husband is Bampar. My name chosen by my son in law who didn't think I looked old enough to be a granny. Bless him,

Primrose123 · 26/01/2013 16:15

My parents are Grandma and Bampi and DH's parents are Gran and Bampa.

DH always gets it wrong though!
