First thread was started by Trisagion on Wed 30-Oct-13 15:18:17

"
This is to ask for the help of all Mumsnet members, most especially anyone who lives in the Haute Savoie departement.

One of our members, Carol Sheridan, is missing. She is a keen and intrepid hiker and explores the high mountains of the area. She is experienced and resourceful but neither her family nor many friends have had any communication with her since Saturday 27 October.

She may be lost or perhaps had an accident and be awaiting rescue.

She is 73, five foot five tall and drives a black Fiat Panda registration AZ522AP

If you have any information on Carol's whereabouts or the location of her car please contact French Police and her daughter Fiona Conyers [note from MNHQ, we've now removed the email address to respect the family's wish for privacy]

HQ are hoping to post the MISSING poster circulated by her family on here."

magi thank you. I appreciate you weren't trying to sneer.
I am not unaware of the difficulties of the terrain, but took the posted comment at face value ......and was shocked by the phrasing, which said that they would be checking known dangerous spots on the paths on Thursday. As opposed to saying they would be continuing to check dangerous spots.

The inference seemed to be that they had been concentrating on some other focus. And that did make me despair!

magimedi · 05/11/2013 22:02

Festive - thank you too for understanding.

I don't have a lot of faith in the French police/gendarmerie and they were far to slow to respond to this - but now the real guys are out searching, the trained ones, I have every faith in what they are doing.

And I just want them to find Carol, for the sake of her family. The not knowing is just the most awful thing of all.

PetiteRaleuse · 05/11/2013 22:05

No, I said they will continue to check the known danger spots tomorrow, Wednesday, and that on Thursday 40 more search and rescuers will join the search. They are doing what they can with the resources and knowledge they have. Trust them, the search and rescue teams in that area are v experienced and dedicated and, quite frankly, heroic. I did not mean to infer there was any other focus.

SconeForAStroll · 05/11/2013 22:09

Delurking since thread one to say I too am thinking of Carol and her family.

Reposting this for the evening crowd:

Watch out - reporters on the prowl. Please be wary of anyone pm'ing you as a new member. The family don't want intrusion from the press, some of whom ignored police requests yesterday. I've had two pm's on Gransnet from one reporter, one complete stranger. Both men have joined Gransnet today. Ignored one, reported both, told the reporter I have no interest in anything his paper has to say (DM), and blocked them. Thanks.

Hope this is okay. Not making any judgement on the press at all, just thought it might be worth a reminder.

BlatantRedhead · 05/11/2013 22:20

so no need to bump anymore but I thought I'd add my support anyway. Still hoping carol is found.

magimedi · 05/11/2013 22:21

Well done, Thorn - I meant to do the same but forgot. Shameful, me.

Great reminder. Flowers

sanssoleil · 05/11/2013 22:22

I am glad that trained searchers are involved,I have little faith in French policing when 'foreign' nationals go missing but all this activity sounds very promising and hoping Carol will be found safe and her family can be put out of this agonising waiting and fear.

giraffesCantGoGuising · 05/11/2013 22:37

No news yet :(

Simatmum · 06/11/2013 06:17

Thanks for copying my reminder about reporters. Soon after I posted it, I had a message from another Gransnetter to say she, too, had been approached by the same hack. She saw him off and blocked him. I hope there is news soon - this is unbearable!
