First thread was started by Trisagion on Wed 30-Oct-13 15:18:17

"
This is to ask for the help of all Mumsnet members, most especially anyone who lives in the Haute Savoie departement.

One of our members, Carol Sheridan, is missing. She is a keen and intrepid hiker and explores the high mountains of the area. She is experienced and resourceful but neither her family nor many friends have had any communication with her since Saturday 27 October.

She may be lost or perhaps had an accident and be awaiting rescue.

She is 73, five foot five tall and drives a black Fiat Panda registration AZ522AP

If you have any information on Carol's whereabouts or the location of her car please contact French Police and her daughter Fiona Conyers [note from MNHQ, we've now removed the email address to respect the family's wish for privacy]

HQ are hoping to post the MISSING poster circulated by her family on here."

Yes, I echo bluebird,if anyone is offended by the error, please say.

magimedi · 05/11/2013 13:40

Row - I am sure no one would be.

Thumbwitch · 05/11/2013 13:42

What a very apt autocorrect!

RevoltingPeasant · 05/11/2013 13:45

.

Simatmum · 05/11/2013 13:54

Watch out - reporters on the prowl. Please be wary of anyone pm'ing you as a new member. The family don't want intrusion from the press, some of whom ignored police requests yesterday. I've had two pm's on Gransnet from one reporter, one complete stranger. Both men have joined Gransnet today. Ignored one, reported both, told the reporter I have no interest in anything his paper has to say (DM), and blocked them. Thanks.

bluebayou · 05/11/2013 13:54

three cheers for granjura .

bigwellylittlewelly · 05/11/2013 13:54

We're sending very tough vibes to Carol and to her family

Bluebirdonmyshoulder · 05/11/2013 13:56

Ok, good! Sending ibex vibes to Carol.

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 05/11/2013 13:57

Just came on to say the same as Simatmum - be very wary of PMs.

ZingWantsCake · 05/11/2013 13:57

blue

offended? don't be silly. However serious this situation is a little humour is always welcome to keep spirits up!Wink

I wish they could use trained mountain goats to search for people - what could be better?

we all mean the best for her and her family, but who could blame us for chatting also while anxiously waiting?

positive IBEX it is!Smile

Am glad you posted that Simat

I'll quote it again when this thread turns page.

DM is not popular here.

PetiteRaleuse · 05/11/2013 13:58

How intrusive. If they want to write articles to publicise and help the search they can get more than enough information from the French police. They should not be harassing family or friends on here /GN.

duchesse · 05/11/2013 14:02

Bloody hell, journalists contacting posters here? They're like sodding vultures circling. Why would anyone even begin to think that was acceptable? The mind boggles.

duchesse · 05/11/2013 14:02

BTW I'm around today if there's any translation that needs doing.

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 05/11/2013 14:05

Don't forget, inappropriate as their behaviour now is, it was the Mail which was among the first to pick up the story. I'm grateful to them for that.

Please, DM reporters, if you are reading, no-one here knows anything, and the family are obviously going to be feeling extremely anxious - just back off a bit for now. Please.

Mignonette · 05/11/2013 14:07

I can see both sides.

The Press can be a useful tool in publicising. The trouble is they then tend to act as though they are 'owed' more.

I wouldn't disclose anything the family wouldn't approve of and their requests are explicit regarding press collaboration.

motherinferior · 05/11/2013 14:11

Er...some of us are quite nice. Just saying. Please don't assume that all journalists on this thread are here as vultures. I'm not.

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 05/11/2013 14:14

I'm very fond of vultures as it happens. Grin

But you are right of course. I am sure most journos are very scrupulous individuals. Those PMing for a bit of gossip though... well. It's a bit beyond the pale. They need to wait for the family to be informed of any developments before anything else is released.

duchesse · 05/11/2013 14:16

I particularly like the barber shop ones in the Jungle Book film.

Simatmum · 05/11/2013 14:41

I, too, love vultures, but the press are given briefings by press officers of the major agencies involved and if they want to talk to us, they should approach Mumsnet HQ. The DM hack has been banned.

FestiveEdition · 05/11/2013 14:44

If there are journalists here - please light a candle for Carol.
Keeping hope for her is the only thing which any of us are concerned with.

DameDeepRedBetty · 05/11/2013 14:59

Just popped in to check on developments. Will watch out for pms! Hope weather's calm in Haute Savoie today.

SecretWitch · 05/11/2013 15:19

Aie du courage! You are in my thoughts, Carol.

Tiredmumno1 · 05/11/2013 15:21

Still hoping and praying xx

Simatmum · 05/11/2013 15:24

Just seen a brief update on Gransnet. No news yet. Sorry.
