Gifted & talented should be stopped!

I think this should be stopped it isn't accurate, it isn't fair and parents become self obsessed with it. Learning then becomes pressure for kids from parents to be top. If you didn't you wouldn't have this section. STOP IT!

So what is your secondary like lijaco?

At the school I work at 'very bright' children are exceptionally rare, and even top sets contain many children who are not particularly 'bright'. In that environment those children would (IMO) thrive better if my school had an effective G&T policy/tradition/ethos.

At the school ds1 attends they have a higher proportion of very able children, and they cater for them very well.

ds1 has just started yr7 - no mention of G&T to us or him as parents yet - and he is in mixed ability classes for all his lessons. But it is clear that he is constantly receiving extra challenge, supplementary tasks, differentiated homework etc, appropriate to his abilities. And in subjects like art, music, PE etc. children with those specific talents will be receiving similar input.

I don't understand why you have a problem with this?

shouting at kids that are gifted?
Pressuring?
In what way and how so?
My youngest is 18mths eldest nearly 15yrs
I spend my time supporting the difficulties being gifted has caused my eldest son.
The only time I yell and shout is when he forgets to tidy his room.
School is a breeze no point pressuring him as school barely manages now despite being an excellent academic school.
I'm not sure I totally get your point OP
Who is your ire directed towards?

lol revjustabout you are my new favourite MNer.

OP please reread what you have written and then see if you can comprehend what has been written.

I certainly cannot intuit what the meaning is.

Some parents pressurise their children, true.
Some children are labelled G&T, true.

Do you think that not labelling children would stop parents from pressurising them? Up here in Scotland we don't have G&T, but we do still have parents who pressurise their children. Not labelling children wouldn't stop that, it just makes it harder for children to get suitable work to do.
