Gifted & talented should be stopped!

I think this should be stopped it isn't accurate, it isn't fair and parents become self obsessed with it. Learning then becomes pressure for kids from parents to be top. If you didn't you wouldn't have this section. STOP IT!

am intelligent myself but struggling to understand what ljaco just said to me.
Yes I do care about spelling and punctuation, give the odd typo.
But ljaco
Focus fgs
A rant is only any good if you focus your rage!
What parents? Those of your students?
Quite honestly I'd shout if I got a school report written by your good self.

the measures are not accurate, and I do not have the inclination to discuss further. trying to belittle me personally does not back up your points or opinions. In my opinion there are many disadvantaged kids very smart in different subjects. they do not achieve on paper but are far more gifted & talented. Your kids are lucky that you care to even go into school. I would love to see these kids recognised.

You say your son (18) is gifted? Was he included on a register and did you pressure him because of it.

Do you have one or two talented artists in your class of 30. Do you tell them they are at the top of the group in their art. I don't understand why you are so annoyed about it all.

Some parents would be pleased if their kids were identified, some might not give it a second thought but not many would shout at their children to achieve, more likely give gentle encouragement.

roisin my secondary school is brilliant and very supportive . We ahve a brilliant facilities. I do use differentiation within my lesson plans and try to keep everything fast moving. My year 10 and 11 groups are very talented practically and have amazing abilities. unfortunately a lot of them are challenging in behaviour, lack of parent interest etc. I put a lot of time and effort into my lessons and really enjoy my job. I would like to see someof these kids included more and not excluded from extra opportunities.

This is so the best G and T thread on the board at the moment - the other thread is just so square.

My post was directed at primary education though not secondary ed. It seemsto be there where this G & T is OTT

See, OP, that last post from you is succinct.

Not fair, I was enjoying the madness.

lijaco, if your school does G&T then include some of these pupils you mentioned on the register for art and they may feel a sense of pride in their work, parents may also take note if you send them the letter home. That is one way it can be beneficial.
