This is our mumblemumbleth thread. We want to eat more healthily and/or lose weight.

In theory.

Mostly we like to chat and admire teh thread mascot - he helps us not to over-eat.

If that doesn't do it for you, you can always go old-school - I know I'm too scared to go into the dark spooky kitchen now

Defluff - we go through loads of tins of tuna - well DS2 does! He eats it by the tin full on its own. I rarely throw anything away. If there were loads of veggies left in the fridge then I would make some soup with them. I could eat spaghetti on toast now - yum!

Jet, well done 2lb is fantastic . Norma that is a lovely thing to do

Right, got to go, work calls.

i spend about £60 a week on shopping, thats all i can afford atm, ds2 eats 2 breakfast and dinner at nursery (included in nursery fees) and ds1 mostly eats at his gf's house

traceybath · 26/04/2010 11:30

I spend way too much on groceries - I would say about £150 per week. DH is health nut so eats loads of nuts/fruit etc.

Also have 2 still in nappies which adds up.

TrillianAstra · 26/04/2010 11:42

Our grocery budget is about £60/week, but we often have to top it up if we've been buying wine with the supermarket shop. 2 adults, no nappies, no pets, packed lunches most days.

Have been productive work wise this morning, still tired after drinking and dancing like a mad woman (for some reason I thought I was Beyonce at one point).

Jet, you are doing soooo well, you are such an inspiration, don't get disheartened, you can do this!

Double, hope your day gets better

Defluff, that is a lot of shopping!

SAF, I may escape with you, I need some sun I think. AND out of the 6 of us at the weekend, 3 of my mates have had counselling at some point or another, nowt to be ashamed about.

SAF-How are you doing it, going to Egypt I mean? What are you doing with your current house etc? Have you got a job out there? Sorry if all this has been answered before, but we've always wanted to travel but got no chance because of house, jobs, school etc So come on tell me how to

And the bloody shopping is still all over the place I am TOO tired to put away. Got about 3 hours sleep in between the 2 dds last night. Argh.

Bitter- I think everyone is all over the place. I'm Worcester/West Midlands, Fanny is Dorset I think, Shiney is Oxford maybe? Some are in Gloucester I think. My memory is crap

[Still waiting to stroke Bof's ears]

hellsbelles · 26/04/2010 13:09

umm - I daren't add up the weekly shops. Too much I'm sure - especially since I've started being good about doing proper home cooked stuff...seems to have got more expensive (though not sure how that works?!)

My DC's also have huge huge appetites. And DD is certainly showing her love of food with her gorgeous chubbily thighs (which is allowed at 15 months) - DS eats constantly yet there is not an ounze of fat on him. He's like a lean mean fighting machine. All limbs and sinew. It's all that energy that burns it off....I used to be like that about 30 years ago

Double hope your day gets better....and Jet - loss is a loss. Well done (and I bet you'll do even better now Norma has stepped in with some motivation )

I am now lying on the sofa - gearing myself up to do some paperwork. I have smothered my feet in that flexi stuff (which smells somewhat like an old peoples home) and also have a fetching pair of gel socks on (they are toeless - a version of Shiney's infamous wrist warmers for the feet. So I look very fetching.

SAF - seeing a counsellor does not qualify you as a nutter!

NormaSknockers · 26/04/2010 13:13

Afternoon all, just sat down to catch up & DS has woken up I'm sure he heard my arse hit the sofa!

Off to make lunch, anyone for (half fat) cheese on (ww) toast?

Right I am back, thank you for all the messages. Definitely not going to give the money, my accountant wouldn't let me anyway.

Make up - I had a makeover at the Bobbi Brown make up counter about 18 months ago was lovely but I very rarely wear it.

Food - I guess we spend between £80 and £100 without wine and that does sometimes include nappies but generally I bulk buy cleaning stuff, loos paper etc from the cash and carry. DC's get a cooked lunch and breakfast at school so just snack at home.

Alicetheinvisible · 26/04/2010 15:04

Hello lovelies

Have been rubbish at keeping up with MN atm, so i hope you are all well.

Should be doing housework as my house is an absolute tip, but waiting on Dr's results of possible uti (feel like shite) and DD is tired and grumpy, so i am mentally hibernating.

Our shopping is about £50 a week (waitrose) then about £10 a week from the market for veg/Savers for toiletries. Some weeks it is more, sometimes less. Have been quite bad recently though.

hellsbelles · 26/04/2010 15:18

Alice - UTI's are horrid and make you feel so run down. HOw long do you have to wait to find out?

jetcat · 26/04/2010 15:19

vinny - if i plan properly, i probably spend about £60 a week as well. I was so relieved when mini came out of nappies, just need to sort the bedtimes one out now

saf - thanks for the encouragement and i didnt realise you lived in Egypt - whats that like?

Lizzy - dont worry, am not giving up, well not yet anyway Just thought i had been fairly good, what with exercise and everything, but hey ho - should be a good one next time.

Been busily cleaning and tidying today, just the bathroom to do now. I also need to sort out some paperwork - i have got as far as sorting a pile that needs filling in, posting or doing something else with. Will do that tomorrow when mini is at nursery.

I have been trying to plan a little for June - so far i have got -

need a haircut
need an outfit + shoes
need eyetest/new glasses
need makeup
book train ticket
revise for exam (17th June)

I am struggling with trying to decide what to do first, obv i need to book train ticket, but i think budget will only allow me to do one thing on list a week ANy ideas??

Oh, and i found out that the metrocentre offer a personal stylist/shopper service for £15 an hour - would i be made to contemplate it? Not just for June, but for in general as well??

Alicetheinvisible · 26/04/2010 15:20

hopefully not long, took my wee in about 3hrs ago, so really should get results soon. If it isn't a uti i would rather know because i really am feeling rubbish and if it is i want some AB's!

jetcat · 26/04/2010 15:20

oh Alice - UTI's are horrible, although i dont have any actual experience, just through junior (has kidney reflux so gets loads) I can imagine it being worse in your situation though

Alicetheinvisible · 26/04/2010 15:22

Jet - lots of shops have personal shoppers for free, JL, debenhams etc i think. Don't waste your £15 if you don't have to!
