This is our mumblemumbleth thread. We want to eat more healthily and/or lose weight.

In theory.

Mostly we like to chat and admire teh thread mascot - he helps us not to over-eat.

If that doesn't do it for you, you can always go old-school - I know I'm too scared to go into the dark spooky kitchen now

Wasting - DP doesn't eat fruit or veg except potatoes, oranges and apples. Means we have 3 different meals each evening, dd some form of egg/ham/cheese malarky, me salad and him half a bear or something equally manly

I bet i've upset all the smokers now too. I'm just jealous

lotster · 23/04/2010 20:44

Oh I wish I could spend a week spending in New York...

Rollers. I swore nothing due to the hangover but a teeny hair of the dog might help non? That's bloke's fave salad too. Not very healthy or salady though no!

Rollergirl1 · 23/04/2010 20:46

hellsbelles: God that's annoying when that happens. Even if you manage to fish the cork out it still makes the wine go all weird and sedimenty. Just grin and bare it though. After a couple of glasses you won't notice or even care.

Trillian: You are totally right. It does make you smell. I see people smoking in cars and all I can think is how much it must reek in there in such a confined space and how much they will stink once they step out of their fag pit.

It's funny how much having children makes you re-evaluate what you find acceptable.

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 23/04/2010 20:46

And Defluff - Thankyou for your frankness, it's what I need.

Have you read Allen Carr? I gave up successfully with him for a while.
My sister, who sounds very much like you, had given up for a couple of years but still really missed it.

After reading his book she said she felt so much better, and was never tempted to smoke again

Mitts - I can smell it, I think it's foul.

wastingaway · 23/04/2010 20:47

My fave meal when I was vegan (many moons ago) was a packet of rocket, watercress and spinach salad, with a block of smoked tofu chopped up into it, with a handful of mixed seeds and a good splash of balsamic vinegar and walnut oil.

It was funny when me and DH got together as I was vegan at the time. If we went to a normal place for food, I'd have a baked potato with beans, if we went to the veggie restaurant he had the baked potato and beans.

MitsubishiWarrioress · 23/04/2010 20:52

he's still talking........

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 23/04/2010 20:52

Rollergirl - there's no reason to be snide

hellsbelles · 23/04/2010 20:52

lotster how did you guess

Trills - made up for you! That is bloody brilliant (and it won't be expensive as boss should buy you drinks not the other way round). I love New York but haven't been for ages (can't bear to leave DC's yet for more than a day or so and it's not really a 'family' holiday destination).

There are so many clothes bargains there too...one of teh S&B ladies seems to get loads of good stuff at half the price it is in the UK (she gives her DH a list when he goes on business!)

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 23/04/2010 20:53

Who is he now mitts?

Rollergirl1 · 23/04/2010 20:55

lotster: what's the hangover from? Hey, the salad has green bits and tomatoes and lots of other salady stuff. But fatty yummy chorizo too. Is Halloumi bad for fat content? I know it's very salty but know fuck all else.

I actually love smoking too. If I'm out for a night where there is lots of alcohol involved then I couldn't resist smoking lots of "someeone elses" fags. It's pure association for me though. I can drink wine all night at home and not feel the need for a cigarette but put me in a bar with a vodka in my hand and it's just natural that I will want to have a smoke.

lotster · 23/04/2010 20:55

Wasting - that salad sounds good actually.

Right off to eat..

wastingaway · 23/04/2010 20:55

Mitts, can you not hang up?

MitsubishiWarrioress · 23/04/2010 20:56

ermmmmm not sure.... my ears are bleeding.......

hellsbelles · 23/04/2010 20:57

Bitter - I honestly don't think Roller was being snide - my opinions have changed massively on so many things since DCs? (but I'm sure she'll confirm herself ).

DH gave up and it has been a hard slog (for all of us!!)....but I really recommend going to the dr and getting help through it.

I'm pretty sure Lizzy gave up too and I think she's still doing well (Lizzy fess up if you aren't!)

Glee is such a happy thing to watch isn't it?

MitsubishiWarrioress · 23/04/2010 20:58

I could hang up... he will still be talking next time I phone...

hellsbelles · 23/04/2010 20:59

at mitts!

wastingaway · 23/04/2010 20:59

Glee makes me all melty in the middle.

hellsbelles · 23/04/2010 21:01

I wish wish wish I could sing. I really thought I could for years until brother informed me (quite correctly) that I absolutely can't . I'm cursed with a very good ear for music but no talent!! My mother is bloody brilliant though and I'm hoping it's skipped a generation. DD dances at every opportunity so hopefully it's landed on her!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 23/04/2010 21:03

Hello Jet - well done on the rollecoaster, you are a braver person than me.

Hi rollergirl.

Smoking - I gave uo for most of DD's pregnancy and then started again, finally gave up with hypnothearapy when found out I was pregnant with DS so now 2.5 years. Not bothered by it at all.

Lotster - my favourite salad is chicken caesar with bacon. Our local bar does a great salad and you can choose 3 bits to go in it.

MitsubishiWarrioress · 23/04/2010 21:03

someone texted me at 7.35...he was talking then....

I haven't seen glee, or ever smoked....or worn a salad...

Rollergirl1 · 23/04/2010 21:04

Bitterandtwisted: Sorry, didn't mean to sound snide. We all have our little foibles. I am not passing judgement on you in any way. Was just using that as an example of how we, as parents, re-focus on some things.

Didn't mean to offend...

MitsubishiWarrioress · 23/04/2010 21:04

you could have lessons hells ?

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 23/04/2010 21:05

Sorry, like I said, feel free to abuse me, I was just a bit at the last comment.

I obviously don't find it acceptable, or I wouldn't want to quit.

TBH I would have been less if rollergirl had posted 'Bitter you are an evil cow who is hurting your children through your selfishness'.

Probably just me. As you were.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 23/04/2010 21:05

DH has really got into Glee, I bought him the first half of the set as we have missed most of them. May watch it tonight.

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 23/04/2010 21:10

Rollergirl - I realise no offence meant. Likewise, sorry if I caused you offence .

It is obviously more of a sore point than I thought.

Fanny - Is Hypnotherapy any good? I have tried patches, gum, inhalator yada yada.

TBH, I don't really understand how I am meant to give up a nicotine addiction by being prescribed...nicotine
