Any of you not do sleepovers?

I might ban them. The dds are too old now and a whole host of irritations emerged over the last coupl;e of days that I hadn't been aware of before.

  1. teenagers spend ages in the bathroom doing face packs when you want to get ready for bed and they make a much bigger mess than little kids.
  1. they talk incredibly loudly at night, much louder than little kids
  1. they go to sleep too late
  1. they piss you off by sleeping in till 12, making and baking loads of food and being rubbish at doing dishes
pointydog · 13/04/2010 17:32

ah yes, I was interested in crackers. On e point per oatcake? Hell's bells.

I'll need to get ryvita then.

Guadalupe · 13/04/2010 17:36

Yes, annoying isn't it. I used to have four with toppings and i would eat the others with butter as I made the toppings because it didn't seem worth leaving them in the little packet as they get stale.

They are filling though, and not everyone is doing points but I have to kepp an eye or I get carried away.

RE sleepovers - I have banned sleepovers invlving more than one after hellish birthday experience. I think I may have sworn at the children at 5am.

TigerFeet · 13/04/2010 17:53

i always felt so virtuous whenever i ate oatcakes - dairylea and marmite a good topping (or perhaps not )

what do you put on your ryvita/rice cakes?

we have not yet entered the realm of the sleepover. and we shall not for as long as i can possibly put it off. what ort of age does it usually start?

dd2 not yet crawling, she hasn't quite got the back end sorted. she gets about a bit though, rolling and squirming and stuff.

Guadalupe · 13/04/2010 18:02

I haven't had dairylea for years. I used to like that chive primula stuff in a tube.

Um, I often have philadelphia and salad, or a bit of cheddar and chutney and tomatoes, sometimes egg, sometimes ham and salad and mustard. Today I had tuna mixed with a bit of salad cream [I know I know] baby spinacj and cherry toms and a bit of balsamic. I often chop olives or capers into salad for tuna but didn't have any today.

elliemental · 13/04/2010 18:40

ugh sleepovers.

mine are only 9 and 12 but they don't sleep at all when kids sleep over and ds1 plays bass guitar with amp on full all night with his friends. and then they wake up at 5am and are noisy.

I really need a bigger house or a huge garden (to put them in tents)

elliemental · 13/04/2010 18:43

I got into bad habits over easter and today in town cafe I had a rock bun with butter and had eaten it before i even registered it was not a Good Idea

But if I have eaten zero fat all day, is that ok?

Guadalupe · 13/04/2010 19:35

I know what you mean. Food quantities that I was quite happy with before my holiday feel like starvation today. I have eaten more than enough but I want more.

BIG bowl of dorset light flakes

mini macaroon

Tuna ryvitas with salad

crisps handful
brazil nuts 2

Chicken, lentil salad, green salad

meringue

CoupleofKooks · 13/04/2010 20:29

ooh you're back guad and everyone is chatty and focused
i had a crappy night as i may have mentioned before and then our play date cancelled on us
but friend came to rescue and invited us round for lunch thank god
ds2 slept till 9.30 am! and i would have too except ds1 got tired of being raised by Bernard Cribbins audio tapes
he probably thinks Sophie Aldred is his mother
so i got up early and had nothing to do, ds1 was reading a history book
i did bulk cooking for 2 hours and have stuffed the freezer full of things

cereal pineapple banana raisins grapes pear (4)
cheese and tomato baguette
crumpet with butter, crunchy granola snack stuff
pasta with veg bolognese, broccoli, cheese, carrots (3)

dp got ds1 to sleep before 8 o clock! with no tears! i think it was a fluke and the fact that he was knackered from last night, but dp maintains it is his superior skills of keeping calm - could have a point actually
last time ds1 was really anxious for a long time i phoned some mental health people and they said it was not ds1 who had the anxiety problem, it was me
bastards

anyway thanks for all suggestions, we just have to take it one day at a time and not get freaked out about "OMG i can never go out again and he will be crippled with worries for the rest of his life"
he has a happy time mostly but he is a bit of a fretter
like me i guess

OP posts:
CoupleofKooks · 13/04/2010 20:36

anyway
Guad
i missed your company all week and then you came back and had a long long conversation about crackers riveting

the holiday food sounds fab , really good cake is a thing of beauty isn't it? i have cake on a wednesday at the cafe usually but it is a bit hit and miss
it's very disappointing when you have splurged on a treat and then it is lacklustre

oh i did robcast just now! it was fine - run 90 s rest 90 s then run 3 m rest 3 m, repeat
it was such a relief to be out of the house tbh i felt i could have done a lot more
i am going to come a cropper in a week or 2 when it gets into proper running, aren't i?

pointy we haven't done sleepovers, because ds1 wouldn't manage at someone else;s house all night, and a lot of our friends' children are the same really
i think it is more when they are a bit older usually isn't it? ds1 just turned 7

Guadalupe · 13/04/2010 21:02

Sorry, did I go on about crackers? Yes, I did fully exhaust the cracker and all their composition and possibilities. Well, Pointy ASKED about them!

I eat a lot of crackers.

You can put me in the corner with some, maybe behind some railings.

Honestly, the cake was a triumph. We had an amazing simnel cake the first time and when we next stayed there was a packet of welsh cakes. The disappointment! And the next time there wasn't one but a blueberry and yoghurt spnge [yum] appeared on the last day and all was well.

I think this wins though. Each half must have been three inches high. How do people make sponge like that?

Guadalupe · 13/04/2010 21:07

After all the sleepover talk, dd has persuaded me to ler her friend who was coming for tea stay over. She has only ever had a friend of the family over before so this is a new one.

She is 8. I think 8/9 is fine. Depends on the child of course.

Guadalupe · 13/04/2010 21:12

They are watching Monster House and eating Ribena Lollies. They are quiet but maybe they are terrified. It is quite a scary film imo.

There is a bit with a phone that I think is terrifying but dh and ds1 just roll their eyes at me. I expect they haven't see 'Have You Checked The Children'. Hideous. Scarred me for life.

CoupleofKooks · 13/04/2010 22:08

what is monster house????
poor ds1 has not yet seen a film at the cinema because i have failed to find anything non-scary enough
the muppets gave him a nightmare once!

i am hungry
but it's bedtime so off i trot

glad you are back guad
x

CoupleofKooks · 14/04/2010 08:22

everyone slept hallelujah!! i don't mean, all night or anything, no that would be preposterous , but still, there was definite sleeping going on
off to work
be good veggers
eat your greens
see you later

ThePinkOne · 14/04/2010 08:55

Tiger that's nothing! Someone replaced my baby with a toddler And I didn't even notice until someone pointed out to DS in the supermarket that 'you used to be a baby' like the one he was staring at

Not so cross at DH now - we only got invited to the party the day before

Guad! You're back!
Glad you had a better night Fran
Ell -do you mean no fat except the butter and the rock cake

DD went to a sleepover when she about 22 months my friend (dd's best friend's mum) was babysitting but then decided it would be easier to have her over than come to ours. It suddenly hit me on the day that DD was sleeping over at her friend's house before she was even 2!!! She had a great time

I was supposed to run last night and I didn't I read a book instead. I'm so cross with myself Food not bad though and I'll run tomorrow.

1 weetabix and apple orange and pear to share and a coffee.

elliemental · 14/04/2010 11:01

well, not exactly no fat, but I mean to say, porridge made with 80 per cent water and 20 per cent semi skimmed milk, and home made veg soup, and a lean chicken and veg and fruit tagine with cous cous isn't exactly bursting with fat, is it?

elliemental · 14/04/2010 11:05

today porridge, and half a kilo of melon!

lunch is some left over chicken and cous cous made into a salad.

I bought some dried pineapple which was vastly expensive and really Not Nice at all.

Dinner will be bacon and mushroom and tomato chilli pasta with some salad and no garlic bread no siree.

elliemental · 14/04/2010 11:06

oh and there may be popcorn later as I may be taking ds2 to see Nanny Mcphee as ds1 is off on a sleepover elsewhere.

pointydog · 14/04/2010 11:24

sleepovers left right and centre. They are like childbirth - awful and then you instantly foeget just how awful and you give in to another one.

Anyway, back to crackers. An oatcake has the same number of calories as a ryvita (have bought ryvitas). Now why should ww give a point to one outcake and a point to 3 ryvitas? Are they anti-oat?

pointydog · 14/04/2010 11:26

I was just wondering if CoK's ds1 would cope with the nanny mcphee film? I don't know Monster House. Is it good or just kid pap?

weetabix with milk
glass of apple, raspberry, grape juice
tangerine

pointydog · 14/04/2010 11:27

I have bought philadelphia light with chives to put on my ryvita and will add something salad-like

elliemental · 14/04/2010 11:55

i didn't really rate monster house at all.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 14/04/2010 12:38

I think a lot of dried fruit is overrated tbh. But I still buy it every now and then to see if I change my mind - and I don't! And as you said. it's quite expensive. I fall for any new gimmic or product though

I used to have my nephew round for sleepovers when he was about 18 months. He bloody loved it. It was when I was a single gal and he used to share my bed. We were very close though and he was/is particularly outgoing.

The f&v intake is going well today so far.

I think the secret to lovely high sponges is the type of fat you use. Quite a few cakes I make you use oil instead of butter and they seem to rise much higher.

elliemental · 14/04/2010 12:59

I discovered an unexpected enthusiasm for dried mango though. that is v moreish.
