Welcome all- old and new- this is our fifty-something Healthy Eating thread, where we chat, support each other's ascent into vibrant slinkiness full of bright eyes and glorious glowing skin etc etc...

Post as much as you can, and you'll be sure to catch the gossip and the gamut of human emotion that make up the Shiney threads. They have grown from one woman's noble quest to ditch curly-wurlies for breakfast into a veritable Mumsnet phenomenon, which has actually seen some of us lose rather a lot of weight and get much healthier...

Not me- I am still trying to get there, and have a permanent cold, but hey, let's not split hairs: there are other regulars who are a positive inspiration! So jump in and find us again, or join us anew, and follow whatever approach suits you.

Sazz, they did that lean over thing at Bravissimo when I got a bra there. Brilliant service, I'll go again when it's time to buy a nice bra.

MyCat, I think I was doing that thing where I try to use as few words as possible to say something. It never helps me express myself, I don't know why I do it!

Everything up-in-the-air at the minute with regards finances, plans etc. and I've been eating more as it's become more uncertain, and it feels like I'm feeding myself up ready for a famine.

MyCatIsABastard · 23/03/2010 14:05

lizzy, only had them reduced by way of losing weight and BF. If I had the money though I'd have them hoicked up a bit. I hate the way they lie down next to me when I lie on my back . I think it was Shiney that had the reduction,

FiveGoMadInDorset · 23/03/2010 14:06

I had the reduction.

Lizzylou · 23/03/2010 14:06

Sazz, yes, she was doing all that leaning over and jiggling stuff as well. It was surreal standing in front of the full length mirror with just my leggings (ugh) whilst some 50 yr old woman was calling me darling/sweetie/lovey and jiggling my boobs

wastingaway · 23/03/2010 14:07

Lizzy, I always thought I was big-boned, but I have tiny hands, and slim ankles and am not really broad across the shoulders. I just have a big head, so I looked quite slim even at 11 stone (many moons ago). I think if I ever made it down to BMI 22 I'd look like a lollipop.

Lizzylou · 23/03/2010 14:08

Ah, right, so Fanny and Shiney had them reduced. Is it painful?

I emailed DH about my new size and he did say, "Blimey, I wonder what size they were when you were pregnant/breastfeeding!", scary.

Wasting, is everything OK? Hope you're not too worried about stuff.
I do have v big wide feet, big wrists, broad shoulders, and am 5ft 9", so not quite a whippet

VinegarTitsOnaDiet · 23/03/2010 14:09

Yes wasting i already have/had a mini, you must have missed all the palaver with my crooked mechanic and xfil, i wont go there because its a loooong story

MyCatIsABastard · 23/03/2010 14:10

wasting, I'm just reading a book call Connected which is about social networks (friends, family, work colleagues, etc) and in that they have found that people are influenced very heavily by the people within their network, so if your friend is overweight, and their friend is overweight, you are hugely likely to be overweight too. It's about group influences and how they can change our acceptance of what is normal (so if your best friend puts on weight you start to adjust your views on being overweight and what is normal and thus also put on weight). So the Shiney group is a really good thing for us as we are reinforcing and encouraging each other to eat properly and re-set our ideas of what is normal.

Could probably have done with using a few less words there myself

FiveGoMadInDorset · 23/03/2010 14:11

Weirdly no not that much, got given some strong painkillers and was on self admin morphone after but went in in the morning and was home the next morning. DH had to wash hair for me for a couple of weeks but the healing was really good.

Lizzylou · 23/03/2010 14:11

Shiney, but good for teacher letting you know.
I think I'd be mad at a whole bunch of things tbh, going against your wishes/the deceit and also that she knows how dangerous it could be.
I would prob go to town, but taking away her laptop is a v good start.

VinegarTitsOnaDiet · 23/03/2010 14:12

Shiney i think the chat and the removal of the laptop should do it

FiveGoMadInDorset · 23/03/2010 14:13

Shiney - nice teacher.

I would be tempted to go to town aswell, definitely take laptop away and maybe say she can only have it in puble areas, she can always listen with head phones.

MyCatIsABastard · 23/03/2010 14:13

Shiney I think the long talk and removal of lap top should do the trick. I suspect she did it because most of her friends are on it too, or maybe just her close ones. Doesn't make it right though. Does she know you know yet?

wastingaway · 23/03/2010 14:16

Vinny, I didn't miss the xfil stuff, the fecker! Just the car-buying! Confusing me with your Minis. I'd love a mini. Almost enough to want to learn to drive.

That's interesting Mycat. It is very inspiring to see all our 'big losers' and Sazz and Lizzy exercising away etc. It's true, I knew I could go swimming last week, cos Yank goes swimming. [swim]

Lizzy, I don't feel 'worried', but I think that's due to the 'everything will be ok' mentality I've developed over the years.
But maybe that's just me kidding myself that I'm not worried and that's why I eat so bloody much.

MitsubishiWarrioress · 23/03/2010 14:19

Shiney.. I trusted DS.. and he was watching porn. (which is also available on you tube). I installed K9, as I am afraid I suspect his self monitoring skills go awol under the influence of mates.

He does have FB but can only go on it in the family room where I can see what he is up to. But since his Dad left I get exhausted and fall asleep randomly and he was accessing it then. IMO for most kids it is a rite of passage to test boundaries.

Thinking back, I used to deceive my Mom constantly, at that sort of age. It is a rite of passage type thing and no doubt down to peer pressure (so many youngsters have FB accounts, my mate's 11 year old has one).
V dangerous though, esp as you had no idea.

Am sure you'll sort it out.

MyCatIsABastard · 23/03/2010 14:32

It is probably her age too Shiney. I was for always doing things I wasn't supposed to. Tbh I don't know why, my parents were OK about most things (although completely bonkers about random things like not squeezing the toothpaste from the tube correctly ). She's starting to find her own feet. At least she is upset, which I know sounds mean, but by that I mean she knows how wrong it is and is worried about it.

BitOfFun · 23/03/2010 15:10

Just caught up- yep, laptop removed etc etc. Bloody kids

Well that fella I told you about yesterday is front page of the regional paper today- have just seen his ugly mug next to a headline about his torture chamber . Am steeling myself to read it...

MyCatIsABastard · 23/03/2010 15:20

ooh BOF, don't read it, it'll give you horrible thoughts and creep you out.

I am feeling virtuous today. I have stuck to my WW points and even counting dinner I still have 4 left plus the 3 I've gained for my hr long walk. I've also just written the terms and conditions for DH's website, found out about company registration (kind of, I've found all the relevent website but can't find out how/when we should register or how much), and also started to do register DH as self employed. I have also made tonights dinner (meatballs with spaghetti), and still have 40 mins to go til I need to go get DC.

I am having a cup of coffee and watching crap on the TV - lovely .

bellavita · 23/03/2010 15:55

Oh dear Shiney.... we have only just let DS1 who is 13 in June have a fb account, even though he has been saying since Yr7 that his friends have accounts. Removal of laptop sounds like a good sanction.

bellavita · 23/03/2010 15:55

and BoF - don't read it...

Well done MyCat on feeling virtuous.
