Can't imagine Alan being anything BUT a well man, not with all that gardening. Still, you never know.

I hope you are taking this morning's trying experience as a reason (you'll note I didn't say 'excuse' because that sounds made up) to have a nice relaxing day.

sandripples · 20/04/2010 10:18

WElcome to Ledkr and I'm pleased you are doing so well- thats brill to hear.

Haggis - That's great that you've started rads. Can't wait to reach that stage myself! I've heard massive tiredness kicks in at about 10 days so have your sofa clear and slippers ready!

MAS - glad it went Ok this am. Fancy AT being there. You must have a very exclusive sort of surgery? Was he offering any gardening tips?

Thank-you all for comments re hormone drugs. I'll have a chat with surgeon tomorrow although he might say its my onc I need to speak to later on.

I have a friend staying which is nice as I'm getting bored with all this being at home yet not able to do anything apart from gentle housework. Hope to have a walk this afternoon. I know I'm still recuperating as I can have a nap in the afternoon and still get to sleep easily in bed at night

RWU - hope you're improving and we all await your news when you're up to providing the gory details highlights.

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/04/2010 10:19

yes, he does look very healthy - he had a man bag..
I will not do too much today but have to collect friends dcs this afternoon and look after -so hope I don't frighten them..look ok from front but I suspect rear is a little dishevelled and yuck- blue stitches too.

SR - not a very swanky surgery especially but nice docs-AT lives in beautiful village near here.Nice that he uses the NHS

OP posts:
Cakesandale · 20/04/2010 10:33

Man bag eh? I'll tell dh, he fancies one of those

SR - i didn't ignore your questions about tamoxifen etc, I just don't have anything to add, as I just take what I'm given! I think you should ask the surgeon - he/she probably will say you need to ask the oncologist, but I'd be surprised if he didn't express some kind of view as well, which you will be able to add into the mix.

Cakesandale · 20/04/2010 10:34

You'll all be pleased to hear I am off for a bit now, as I have a tedious job to do that takes up all my pooter's processing capacity. Booooooriiiiing!

KurriKurri · 20/04/2010 13:44

Very pleased your head thing wasn't too bad this time MAS - you were very brave going back. I am laughing at the idea of Alan T. waiting for his verruca treatment or something and being bombarded with people asking when they should prune their roses etc.

Good luck for next Rad. Haggis - SR is right you do seem to start feeling it about half way through, so do take it gently.

Nice to have a friend staying SR - it always sounds as if you have lovely supportive friends - makes all the difference.

Also sending lots of love to RWU, hope you are getting plenty of rest and recuperation, look forward to seeing you back here when you feel up to it

I'm off to water the plants and do a bit of potting on. I think I need a greenhouse extension - but when I told DH, he just rolled his eyes.

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/04/2010 14:06

thank you KK - not brave just kept thinking that I'll feel happier without it !!- took a couple of slugs of rescue remedy to keep me calm !!

You've talked me into it, I am going to go back and try and get my lump (also known as the Third Eye) removed.

I have become seriously trendy (well, I've bought a Plan B CD anyway so i don't want to be looking all old and bumpy if I can avoid it)

KurriKurri · 20/04/2010 15:39

You are trendy Cakes (I don't know who Plan B are)

I am officially middle aged - I got so fed up of my heavy shopping bag yesterday, I bought a shopping basket on wheels from the market. My children have disowned me
DD -'I will not go out with you if you are pulling that thing'
DS -'Oh my God, you've turned into Grandma' ! Cheeky devils.

Cakesandale · 20/04/2010 16:37

Ha ha! I am seriously middle aged as well really, though I'm not sure about the shopping trolley just yet. Mind you, my Mum had one when she was in her thirties, I remember it well...

Plan B is a rapper - but he's just done a CD that sounds a bit sort of retro and Amy Winehouse-ish. Very easy to listen to and tap your feet to. Apart from the rapping bits of course, which sort of go over my head, but dd has turned out to be a big rap fan. Who knew she'd even heard of rap?!?

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/04/2010 16:54

oh brave Cakes ! I will hold your hand virtually when you go.
Didn't know who Plan B were either !

OP posts:
Cakesandale · 20/04/2010 16:58

I am so proud! it is a long time since I was trendy (a VERY long time, actually)

Thanks for the hand hold, I'll let you know when it's needed.

have you had your mamm results yet? (Nosy)

sandripples · 20/04/2010 17:21

Oh I've been wanting a shopping trolley for a while too! Needing to protect my arm is going to be my excuse reason for getting one. Actually I did buy one 2-3 years ago in IKEA but left it at the check-out by mistake ! I always find IKEA a bit streessful. I rang them about it but no joy - they clearly thought I was a bit bonkers.

It will encourage me to shop locally and be green.

French women have trolleys to go to the market well before middle age. Just so sensible! I'm going to look in a catalogue NOW. I have been showing off my various small scale Lakeland-like improvements to my friend and she's impressed!

And for my next delivery it will be ....a mini chopper as encouraged by Delia. Amazon have them cheap. Something else I've been wanting and its on its way...

Cakesandale · 20/04/2010 17:28

I assume we are talking about a cutting implement, and not one of those sit up and beg bikes from the 70s?

Cakesandale · 20/04/2010 17:31

I wonder who nicked your trolley, SR? Although probably Ikeas just put it back on sale. I knew someone who bought a CD rack from them that had clearly been used and returned, so something that hadn't even made it out of the shop would definitely be fair game for selling a second time.

KurriKurri · 20/04/2010 18:08

Ooh good another shopping trolley fan!I am using my arm as an excuse too SR, it made things so much easier yesterday, I had lots of heavy groceries. The nice market stall holder helped me transfer all my shopping into the trolley.

I must look up this rapper - so I can be down with the young folk

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/04/2010 19:26

my brother had a Chipper, bit smaller than a Chopper

RWU says she'll be back once she's got her head together- have 'spoken' to her on facebook.
Will get mammo results on Thursday Cakes...

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 20/04/2010 19:27

not her head, she said herself -am sure her head is just fine and dandy

OP posts:
sandripples · 20/04/2010 21:19

Yes, definitely a cutting implement, unless I've ordered the wrong thing on-line - which has been known...

Glad to read all your enthusiasm for a shopping trolley!!

I need to find out about that rapper too but the postins have been so fast and furious today that I've already lost track!

Must go - there's a box of chocs in the other room. And I did have a long walk today so deserve extra calories. DH is being v kind - he bought me chocs and is sleeping in spare room as he has a rotten cold,,,

Pennies · 21/04/2010 08:47

Hi. Now, now ladies, what's all this about shopping trolleys. It's not a good look!! Mind you I can see their usefulness, but nonetheless... Actually, my mantra theses days is whatever gets you through the day, so go for it!

Feeling crappy after chemo again. Really feel poisoned this time. Have no enthusiasm for anything and can't even face going outside, despite the beautiful weather. I think a bit of the problem is that everyone is keeping their distance because I keep getting neutropenic and so that means I have no visitors and am spending a lot of time on my own brooding. I read and watch TV but TBH I've no energy for much else. Feeling really quite lonely and depressed by it at the moment.

I have got a bloke coming today to talk to me about the possibility of us digging down under our garage to make a gym (like I'm ever going to have the energy!) or summat. DH's crackpot idea but I must have made interested noises at some point. After he's come round and ummed and ahhhed and said it's going to cost ya, then I will take myself out for a walk and see if I can lift my spirits a bit. It's being on my own though - makes me think and I'm rather fed up of thinking.

SR - do you get your results today? If so, good luck.

. Bleugh.

Cakesandale · 21/04/2010 09:49

A Chipper, NOT a 'mini Chopper' - of course, it all comes back to me now! Good luck with the chopping then SR, sounds a bit dangerous for me!

Good luck for Thursday then MAS, and thanks for checking up on RWU for us: hope to see her soon.

KK - do look up the rapper - I know it sounds unlikely but the songs are really nice (and even when he is rapping the nice tune goes on underneath so it is OK even for an oldster like me).

Pennies - you are suffering with all this stuff aren't you? I am sorry, not sure if it is just the luck of the draw or maybe it is the accelerated programme - whichever way it is awful but, if it is any consolation, you do seem to be whipping through the cycles, so at least the end can't be too far away. A walk may well do you good. Having an extension done should possibly be put off for a bit???!!

KurriKurri · 21/04/2010 12:10

Hi all - sorry you are feeling low and poorly at the moment Pennies, but as Cakes says - you are getting through it - that is the thing to focus on. I don't know if its of any help, but when I was a bit cut off from others, DH installed skype for me on my laptop - so you can chat to people and see them. I really used it so I could see my DD every day, but if any of your friends have it, you could chat with them.
I also find Yoga Nidra is a good way to relax and clear my mind of too many thoughts, its a kind of deep relaxation - you just lie down and listen to a CD which talks you through it.
I hope you're feeling better soon.

I saw my oncologist today for a check up, I told him I was worried about my weight, and he sent me for blood tests to check hormone levels and thyroid function. And said he might change me to arimidex as the tamoxifen will be making me put on weight. He also said do more aerobic type exercise, and don't eat biscuits. I told him I did lots of exercise and I was fit but fat. At which he laughed and said 'that is part of your charm'

I am off to look at the rapper now Cakes and will report back

Cakesandale · 21/04/2010 12:15

let me know what you think of the rapper (I may just be having a mid-life crisis - i had one ten years ago and got into The Prodigy - briefly )

Your onc sounds fun!

MaryAnnSingleton · 21/04/2010 12:21

aww,onc sounds lovely ! at biscuits though
So sorry you're having a rough time Pennies but as Cakes & KK say -you are getting through it.
