Can't give you my Smoking Story, MLL, can't think about the past. I'm weirdly contradictory though, because I'm quite an alternative medicine sort of person and spend a small fortune on organic food, so what's with the smoking?

Have 2 lovely kids, ds, 11, and dd, 7, neither of whom would like me to die a premature death, so I'll try not to Maybe if I do a deal with myself to come back and confess here if I do re-start, maybe it'll work this time. Have gone three years without smoking before now, then lit up again (admittedly under extreme stress).

oN OTHER SUBJECTS-YOU CANT MISS IT-Can you make Tuesday???

Fauve · 11/08/2005 22:55

Maybe a few roll-ups, maybe quite a few roll-ups. Tragically no butt ends to count up any more. Always been in denial about extent of smoking, and believed myself to be immune from harm since I wasn't really a smoker. Much.

dropinthe · 11/08/2005 22:56

Oh.I was good at that one-"I only smoke 5 a day"-Yeah right and another five on top for good measure!!

The whole smoking thing is about denial, because we all know it's bad for you, you shouldn't do it, etc, so you have to make up stuff or else you'd quit. But hey, we have quit

dropinthe · 11/08/2005 23:03

We will have to make it the Thursday after next then as MRI scan next week

Would be great if you could be please don't re-arrange your week around me-after all,you are making the effort to come to me which is great in itself!!

Lmccrean · 11/08/2005 23:13

Hi,

I just quit smoking. I smoked from when I was 9 (not often, maybe 3 a week whilel older mates were gettind drunk and chain smoking all round me) til I got pregnant at 17. Started again when things got stressful with dds father re maintenence. Im 21 now and just decided this morning not to have my morning fag and put my remaining cigs through next door neighbours letterbox (she smokes btw, wasnt some kind of random attack!!)

I have been fine all day, but now Im gagging for my "last cig of the day" I feel like I cant sleep well without one. So I planned to stay up really late so id be asleep before head hits pillow. Whats your fav thing to do to take your mind off it?

Fauve · 11/08/2005 23:18

I try and have nice hot drinks, tea, good coffee, etc. Going down the sin scale, I also buy food I don't usually indulge in, eg smoked salmon. At worst I eat a mini Crunchie bar.

I honestly find MN is a reasonably good distraction, especially since I don't associate it with smoking. Baths are good for me too, and making sure I have some novels I really really want to read. I'd guess those two are best for nighttime.

dropinthe · 12/08/2005 10:12

lm-Mumsnet really got me through it,without a doubt-would come on here and rant and rave and it felt better to know I wasn't alone.Best tip is to keep as busy as you can with NON-essential things(ie not housework)-maybe decorating/sorting cupboards/wardrobes/etc out-stuff you don't normally do-reading-anything else than smoking!

Lmccrean · 12/08/2005 11:37

is anyone here still struggling with not smoking after more than 6 months? On the whyquit site theres a "major hurdles" thing at 4 years 4 YEARS!! does anyone here have cravings after all that time ??

charliecat · 12/08/2005 11:42

I have occasional black thoughts, TBH, ones that say...you could smoke that, you could, but something in me says No, dont be daft, its quite scary that my own brain is trying to decieve me.
BUT BUT BUT im telling you this so it doesnt come as a shock to you if it happens.
However for the other 23 hours and 10 seconds im happy to be smoke free and dont give it a thought.

xx
