Problems with smear.......starting to worry.

Been experiencing bleeding in between periods, and the need to pass urine more often, I went to the clinic who rules out any infections, and was advised to go to the doctor and have a smear, even though I was not due one for another 2 years.
I hate the whole process of the smear and the nurse made no effort to distract me or make me feel at home (Although she was not horrid). Before she had done the smear she told me the results would be back in 4 weeks time. After the smear she said you will hear from us in about a weeks time, I asked her why not the 4 weeks as mentioned earlier, she said that she found some red-ness up there and it looks sore and obviously something is not right, at this point I just went into a blind panic and thought of the dreaded (c) word, she told me to try not to worry, and as she was running very late and had a room full of people I left.
Just wanted to know if anyone has experienced anything similar. Telling me not to worry is like telling me not to breathe.

Hi, feeling more with it today, although now have a sore throat, was told by the hospital that I should expect it as they had to put a tube down my throat as I had eaten a massive Indian takeaway just before I took a turn for the worse and they had to operate 3.5 hours later.
Still very sore, but smiled at your kind words. DH teken time off and looking after me until Monday then mum can take over looking after ds for a few days if I need it.

Thanks

How awful for you Breeze, hope your sore throat is short-lived and the rest of you recovers quickly. Sounds like you could do with your mum helping out for a few days even if you do get over it quickly. Take care x

Put your feet up Breeze, get Heat magazine (or other choice read) and recuperate. Give your body a chance to recover, it will thank you for it . Sending cyber grapes and choccies.

Been back to the doctors and on 2 different types of anti-biotics, one of them makes me feel sick and disorientated, but doctor said best to stick with them and he is right, finally for the first time since I had the original op on 23rd June, I have stopped bleeding. Yipee.

Great News.

I have finally after nearly a month, got my results back from the colposcopy.

The letter says "I am pleased to let you know the tissue we removed showed no evidence of cancer but simply overactive skin". Yippee I feel as though I have put my life on hold since I found out about the problem.

I also wanted to add that the other thread I read regarding batey's sister was a very very helpful and I hope that this thread also brings a little bit of comfort to someone else if they ever have to go through this in the future.

I might add the the complications that I had are not that common, and any way I got over it and all I have to do now is have a smear just after christmas.

Thanks for all that contributed to this thread, it certainly made a huge difference to me even if you offered kind words of support thanks

Good news

Bumblelion · 22/07/2003 13:56

Breeze, brilliant news.

I went to the hospital for an examination last Thursday and they have decided I need another colposcopy as a check as I was still bleeding after my period started 13 days before and she couldn't examine me properly.

They are hoping the continuous bleeding is down to the mini pill not agreeing with me so they are going to give me a general anaesthetic when I have the colposcopy and they migh also carry out a D & C if I need one, and also fit the Mirena coil at the same time which is what I want. I have had a coil before and had no problems so fingers crossed, like you Breeze, I will get the all clear, have the coil fitted and be back to normal again soon.

breeze · 22/07/2003 21:19

Hope everything goes well for you too, Good luck and let me know how you get on.

I found out yesterday onreturning from holiday that I have to go for a colposcopy next Thursday morning. Still haven't mustered up the courage to tell dh because I really don't want him worrying and fussing for the next week - I know he will! Got a feeling Mum knows I have a gynae appt as she popped in to tidy post etc while we are away, but I don't feel like discussing it with her either. I know I should phone gp to find out degree of abnormality but I keep putting it off. DH won't be able to accompany me to the appt as he has to work next thurs (GCSE results). Best friend lives an hour away and would probably have childcare probs. I feel really down in the dumps about this. Read the thjread has been reassuring - I know I'm going to be OK after the treatment but I can't face telling anyone because I don't want too much fuss. It's also opened up a whole can of worms about trying to conceive number 2 which as old mumsnetters wil know we have had no success with for 2 years. any words of wisdom appreciated
