Problems with smear.......starting to worry.

Been experiencing bleeding in between periods, and the need to pass urine more often, I went to the clinic who rules out any infections, and was advised to go to the doctor and have a smear, even though I was not due one for another 2 years.
I hate the whole process of the smear and the nurse made no effort to distract me or make me feel at home (Although she was not horrid). Before she had done the smear she told me the results would be back in 4 weeks time. After the smear she said you will hear from us in about a weeks time, I asked her why not the 4 weeks as mentioned earlier, she said that she found some red-ness up there and it looks sore and obviously something is not right, at this point I just went into a blind panic and thought of the dreaded (c) word, she told me to try not to worry, and as she was running very late and had a room full of people I left.
Just wanted to know if anyone has experienced anything similar. Telling me not to worry is like telling me not to breathe.

From what I can remember my sisters treament was done then and there. She was O.K. after, a bit shaky, but that was more emotional than physical. You should be fine to work. She then had to go back after 2 weeks (I think) and they confirmed all the dodgy cells had gone. Seven months on and it's still fine. I know the wait is horrid but in 4 days you'll have got the worst over. HTH.

Hi Breeze. I had my loop diathermy treatment a couple of months after my colposcopy. I remember having heavy bleeding for a couple of weeks or so after the treatment but absolutely fine apart from that. Good luck for Monday, you'll be fine!

batey · 22/06/2003 20:54

Just got back, had to have the loop thing, had a problem and I was in that horrid chair for 45 minutes.

Not pleasant, but it needed to be done.

Going to lay down now and watch wimbledon, while DH waits on me hand and foot.

I am feeling a lot better now, had a good rest this afternoon.

I got there and took one look at the chair, looked like a torture chair and burst into tears.

The people there were really nice and tried their best to distract you.

Shortly into the process I started bleeding and they took ages to stop it, that was the reason it took 45 minutes rather then 15 they had hoped for.

I am so relieved that it is over with and don't have my 6 month smear until Jan 2004.

Want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for there kind message and support

Just for an update, I am back home now after neing rushed to hospital yesterday with severe bleeding, with a complication following my loop treatment. I had to have a op under general to sort out the problem. I am very sore and tender, feeling very sorry for myself at the moment, I begged them to let me come home tonight
as didn't want to spend another night in the hospital.

Resting up now.
