Hi everyone - thought i would drop in to see how you are all doing. Well done every one.
I can't believe i quit 6 months ago - the time has flown, although i do still get the odd urge, usually when the sun is shining and i have a glass of wine in my hand!
Looks like star shaker could do with some advice - i have linked her thread to this one.
Keep it up girls!

starshaker · 15/06/2005 14:11

this is what i put on other thread befor i was kindly invited here

want to give up smoking as i really hate it. ive been smoking since i was 13 im now 24 and have a dd to think about. at the moment i smoke in the spare room where the pc is and dd never is. in the next couple of days we intend to start sorting the spare room out for dd so we can get it decorated ready for her to move in when she old enough. i never smoke in our room or any other room in the house so if i want 1 ill have to go outside but im to lazy to do that so ill prob just give up (well thats the intention anyway)

wish me luck getting rid of my 1 and only vice well ok i may have more but ill deal with them later

charliecat · 15/06/2005 22:14

Hi SS, there quite a few new stoppers here so you are in good company, how many do you smoke a day? Have you stopped before? I recommend a read at whyquit.com
Tell us when your stop date is...we will hopefully rally round and prop you up!
Wave to everyone else

im going for monday to give me a few days to get used to the idea and get my bum into gear about doing room (dam mumsnet for keeping me off it .
i smoke less than 20 a day and stopped when i fell pg when i was 18 then i miscarried and started again then last year i went to docs and got patches and stopped for 4 months then fell pg with dd and started again [ashamed emoticom] i did cut down to about 5 a day but then after having her i started smoking more again.

charliecat · 16/06/2005 07:28

Ok..Well till monday read some whyquit.com...reallt unveatable mindchanging stuff there...or go to the library and see if they have allen carrs book.
My other half quit yesterday at 2pm, came in at about 7pm ok got manic and took the kids outside to play and LEAPT out of bed this morning ...not sure if hes trying to run away from the thoughts or running to the shop...well see.
I did say read whyquit.com but he didnt. Its not just the first few days you need to get through its the urges and thoughts in weeks to come that you dont want or expect. Bloody fags.

Cam · 16/06/2005 12:03

When I stopped 9 years ago, I thought of myself as becoming a non-smoker rather than giving up soemthing. Its a subtle psychological difference but has worked for me (even to the extent that I have smoked at mumsnet meetings occasionally - thanks Scummymummy and Custardo for the cigs - but haven't ever started again).

So think: You're not giving something up, you have become a non-smoker. Which is what you want to be.

starshaker · 16/06/2005 12:16

i know 1 thing i will be and that is very crabbit lol m dp who is a non smoker went out and bought me cigs cos he couldnt cope with my mood. meed to try and do something about that 2 will prob come on mumsnet when feel like 1

Cam · 16/06/2005 12:29

Oh and the absolute no-no is that your must NEVER buy any more cigs (nor your dp - that's very norty)

dropinthe · 16/06/2005 13:49

Charliecat-does your dp smoke joints or fags??Let me know how he gets on as am currently nagging my dh to stop before we go to Turkey in three weeks time when he is obviosly NOT going to be able to take puff out there unless he wants to get banged up for life!
I'm all over my chest infection now and my body has rid itself of most pre smoking gunk so am feeling much healthier.

fionagib · 16/06/2005 13:50

sorry have not been on here very much, but have been bad.... the odd ciggie of an evening when dh's silk cuts ahve been just lying there.. not that am blaming him.

'clean' day today, am gonna get my act together. didn't really want to come on here and spread vibes of failure when so many of you are being strong & resisting the dreadful urge.

For everyone elses information Fiona started the very first thread saying something like help me im a desperate smoker...
And because of that im going to shout in her ear! She helped pull me through the dregs of adiction and I would love to help her do the same. RIGHT!
Fiona they are dhs fags NOT yours. YOU dont smoke. You also know they do NOTHING for you, except make you feel ashamed to come on this thread. Get your trainers on and go for a run the next time OK???????????

My dp smokes fags, lots of themm..hundreds in fact. Are you not allowed to smoke in turkey?
