Well, cc, you were busy last night!

Yep, I did take your advice. Once you'd helped me calm down, the urge went away. And now reading all your pastes, it seems to make so much sense! It is definitely certain situations that trigger the urge, but I'm still in a place where, although I understand the theory, the practise doesn't work. So I know it's just a crave because of a situation, but doesn't make it easier to walk away. Does that make any sense?

Anyway, I have ds on my knee, and that's the best reminder of why I'm stopped...

Glad to hear, cc, that the urges do go away, even at difficult times. Mll, we just need to keep soldiering on, we're doing so well!!

Oh, btw, managed to get through the evening on only 2 beers! In spite of the argument!!

charliecat · 04/06/2005 16:41

Glad you got through it...knowing the theory is 99% of the battle id say, the other 1% is listening to the logic and not running to the fag shop

could i join this thread please
gave up for year and a half but been lapsing recently gone three days without so i should hold on to this and try to stop
im in a limbo between stopping and starting and i need to get it into my head that stopping IS better than starting
thinking i need to get pg again so that ive a big reason to stop but my chilren should be reason enough
but when im stressed with a mountain of a dirty house to climb a fag and coffee break seems like a good idea ....
its not its not its not......

charliecat · 05/06/2005 22:29

Just logging off but welcome
whyquit.com has some grwat reading that may get you in the mood for it...must dash though! x

hub2dee · 05/06/2005 22:36

Hi mll - haven't read everything but really happy for you that you're doing so well and battling the temptations. Hope you're starting to enjoy some of the upside of being a non-smoker. Well done.

evansmummy · 05/06/2005 23:31

chilled, hi! You're welcome to join, of course, and that'll be another to join the ranks of non-smokers!! I stopped smoking nearly two weeks ago after having briefly started again shortly after giving birth to my first ds in December. I'm finding it hard, but there's loads of support on here when you're ready to take the plunge!

Mll, congratulations to you!!! Nevermind if it was today and not yesterday, the fact is that TODAY it worked, and hooray!! Big pat on the back for you. Hope you had a good weekend, probably catch up with you tomorrow.

chilledchic · 06/06/2005 00:37

thanks evans mummy have just resisted the urge(my dp smokes ) so temptation is never too far away-he gave up for ages so hopefully if i set a good example he will follow.
havent smoked since friday so ill try and make that a week ...and then 2...

Tortington · 06/06/2005 01:01

hello can i join you - my name is custardo and its been 4 days since i had a fag.

apparently the nicotine is now out of my system is this right? i am having almost constant headaches and large periods of dizzyness - i feel perpetually hungover!!!

i recently lost 2 stone on a diet and was really proud of myself, have just come back off holiday knowing i need to lose a couple of pounds tog et down tomy pre hol weight - however gave up smoking the day before i came home. yesterday i ate 2 bars of chocolate , today i ate 2 bars of chocolate and a tube of pringles and i feel just as rotten about that - in fact i keep saying to myself - you wouldnt be eating allt his if you had a fag.

am taking tomorrow off work - i cant cope with people at the moment with t his perpetual non hangover.

good thing............dh has given up too
bad thing..............i have been shouting at mumsnetters all day
funny thing............dh and i seem to be always shouting at each other but we realise its beucase f the quitting - my son was making his sister a hot drink ( it was a quid pro quo thing for use of the puter) coincidentally i was waiting for the kettle to boil when dh went in kitchen and started shouting " what are you doing"......ran into living room shouting " ARE YOU MEKKIN THAT BREW" ......runs backinto kitchen " mums mekkin a brew" .then really stressed out he runs backinto living room and shouts " am relly confused, he is using the ot water and ou were making a brew" then shouts " are the cups made - did ou put the coffee in"

i shout back " oh for f8cks sake get kofi fking anan to draw up a treaty"

it was funny ......at the time

ScummyMummy · 06/06/2005 01:52

sounds funny now too. Edging closer to quitting again but not quite there yet. Will be joining you before the summer hols starts though. Good luck everyone.

charliecat · 06/06/2005 07:40

More new quitters woohoo Welcome..well done custy and dh...your poor kids putting up with you two
That little voice in your head telling you it would be better if you had a fag take s awhile to go away.
whyquit.com helps to murder it, at least your totally aware of how/why its happening. The only way your going to do this is by never smoking another fag. Tried and tested by all, just one, nearly always means, just the packet within 24 hours.
Good Luck...feel free to come and rant!

Hi all!

Custardo, I have the same problem. Spent £15 on munchies the other day to replace the empty feeling. Works too! But can feel myself getting fatter... charliecat said to me the other day though, "better a fat cow who doesn't smoke than a skinny one that does", and she's right, you know. (Btw, I said the fat cow bit first, not cc!)

It'll be two weeks tomorrow.

Mll, sorry to hear about your hayfever. The fags probably didn't help that either? Don't know much about that, though. Or at least, you've taken away all the health problems that go with the smoking!

charliecat · 06/06/2005 16:06

Hows it going today girls?

lunachic · 06/06/2005 16:19

had a puff only half of one
doing house work non stop all morning and needed some thing to releive the agony-ive stopped buying biscuits so i smoked instead of munching-you know that feeling when you need a companion for your cuppa ! maybe i cant diet and quit ?too difficult?
oh will power were art thou ?
got to get back to hw (been spring cleaning since last year !)
wont have any more today (and the day after that and that ...)
need to get to that website and remind myself why
