For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

i am turning my back very pointedly on the pumpkins

my dad has just given me many plants from the compost heap out the back of his work so i am off to plant them. also to store my onions in tights.

if i put them in a purple pair, i won't get purple onions, will i?

FrayedKnot · 03/08/2009 17:52

lol at purple onions

well, all I can say is, I went on holiday and left my pumpkins to it, and when I came back...babies

I also appear to ahve grow a 16 inch marrow

which was a teeny tiny courgette before I went away

littlerach · 03/08/2009 18:11

Oh I harvested one of those yesterday, FK.
They grow so quickly.

It was dd2's party today. We had it in a soft play hell. It wasn't too bad. Though the food was minging.
And 4 children didn't turn up, grrr.

Coleslaw
nectarine
tomato
apple and blackberry crumble.

FrayedKnot · 03/08/2009 21:22

Not many people seem to have turned up for Bootcamp

Just as well really as I've only had 6 portions.

Did go for a brisk walk run though

FrayedKnot · 03/08/2009 21:27

(I bet if I said lets all jump in the pit and eat mars bars you'd be here like a shot)

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 03/08/2009 21:50

banana
blueberries
cucumber
beans
apples
chick peas
onions

What does your courgette chutney taste like LR? I am not convinced with courgettes as they're all a bit nothingy, however I adore cucumber. Go figure

IdrisTheDragon · 03/08/2009 22:08

Hello.

Have eaten not well today. And have got very fed up with DS espeically and DD a bit. And my lack of ability to tidy house. Whimpered all over DH when he got back home.

Maybe I should grow some vegetables one day. What is easy to grow?

ABitWrong · 03/08/2009 22:12

courgettes are easy

IdrisTheDragon · 03/08/2009 22:28

They taste a bit not that much though. But it would be nice to see them appearing (actually, do courgettes grow under the soil? at lack of knowledge).

ABitWrong · 03/08/2009 23:58

No, they grow above ground. Are they gourds? I think they are. They have beautiful big yellow flowers.

ABitWrong · 03/08/2009 23:58

Cook them with lots of garlic.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 04/08/2009 08:05

Funnily enough Valentine was cooking courgettes (and their flowers) on his programme last night. I have a serious crush on Valentine. He's not really good looking or owt, but he's got something about him.

TigerFeet · 04/08/2009 10:06

Valentine's battered courgettes looked very nice indeed. I rather liked the tomato lady too, I'd love to be a mad old bat with a greenhouse full of tomatoes I'm with you Lemur, there's something about him that makes me swoon a bit. DH finds him intensely annoying and goes off to Do Something Less Boring Instead when he's on the telly.

I completely missed the fact that we were bootcamping . Yesterday I did a lot of walking and ate some nectarines. [glow] I was a bit silly on Sunday and washed floors and did weeding and stuff, so my back is a bit buggered atm.

TooTicky · 04/08/2009 10:10

morning

littlerach · 04/08/2009 10:19

Courgette flowers are divine when fried. And I had them stuffed with panneer once, swoon.

Courgette chutney is nice. It has lots of garlic and chiili in.
There is a brilliant website called allotment.org that has reciped for all veg on it.

mollyroger · 04/08/2009 10:33

Morning all

Courgette flowers look like too much faff - but then my three courgette plants only seem to produce one flower every couple of days

sorry not been on here for ages but am trying to be good and do family stuff and be tidier.....

I am bootcamping myself as my stomach has started to blob over the top of my trousers in a distressing doughy manner. Anyone know if sit ups actually work at all for toning?

mollyroger · 04/08/2009 10:34

ooh I have baby pumpkins too [bounce bounce] and no interfering from me

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 04/08/2009 12:06

Another Valentine fan He's got that slightly posh, slightly naughty thing about him, I think that's what I like

I bet the courgette chutney on a cheese scone is DIVINE.

Sit ups do work on toning, but the muscle is below the fat, so you have to get rid of the fat for the six pack to show. Or something like that.

MayorNaze · 04/08/2009 12:10

salutations

dammit i need to bootcamp. but again it is pouring

perhaps i need to look and see if dh has any dusty keep fit dvds...seriously i think i will. i am going a bit mad not being able to stride several times round town per day...

peach
raspberries

but my fruit bowl is full full full with stuff no-one likes ecept me mwah ha ha ha.

plus my dad gave me marrow and bean chutney and my grandad gave me...drum roll..more courgettes!!! but they are a different type and i lurve courgettes anyway

FrayedKnot · 04/08/2009 16:31

My sister made some gooseberry chutney and it was divine.

I am considering making some marrow

We also had one in our veg box although it wasn;t quite as big as mine ...two marrows in one week is too much do do anything else with, I think?

Bootcamp schmootcamp here.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 04/08/2009 19:56

banana
blueberries
sweetcorn
cucumber
apple
tomatoes
peppers

Baby Lemur and I went for a lovely walk today and just managed to dodge the showers. So I've got the 10 for exercise but am woefully lacking on the f&v front.
