not surehow I actually did it, but I hope think i've name changed. I'm off to first AA meeting tomorrow. A few days of sobriety last week made me face up to the fact that I've been drunk now for at least a year. I've already booked a taxi, any other words of wisdom?

To all the suffering alcoholics out there, there is support and sober life is great!

interminablehellishwhatever · 08/07/2019 16:57

Massive congrats to you OP! What a milestone. I 'got it' at my umpteenth try and was 12 yrs sober in May. It works if you work it Wink

Here's to your next 10/1 day at a time!

PerpendicularVincent · 08/07/2019 22:34

Aww thanks @Callico!
One day at a time 😉

BestIsWest · 13/07/2019 21:27

That’s fantastic. Well done.

Etino · 14/07/2019 14:43

See you next year! Thank you all of you who posted. I do feel proud, and very lucky!

Etinox · 05/07/2020 08:26

Hmmm, a day early for my yearly updates! All very good here, still sober and busy and happy. One of the motivators for stopping was thinking about big life events which would be harder if I was still drinking. 11years on and I still have my lovely parents 💞 and I’m still not menopausal 😳
^the thought of coping with mood swings and hot flushes terrified me.
AA meetings will be back again soon 🤞
Do reach out for support, anyone still struggling Flowers

mamakoukla · 05/07/2020 14:17

Lovely thread and beautiful that you do yearly updates. Much courage and love Etinox and thank you for sharing your inspirational journey Flowers

Blush I'm quite private off of Mumsnet, so it's nice to have the space. It was very important in my recovery.
Callico · 08/08/2020 13:01

Ah another year Etinox, well done!! Star

Etinox · 08/07/2021 08:14

Hello again! Still sober, happy and busy. Covid has meant I’ve got a houseful again which is a lovely challenge and ddog is still with us- not sure if I’d mentioned her on these threads but she was a pup when I got sober and now she’s grey and very slow. 💔
Reading back through the updates is heartening. I was remembering my dad watch the World Cup with friends and a cup of tea last night, I still haven’t had the bloody menopause and I still wake up early with the light in the summer, not with beer fear.
For anyone struggling, stopping is possible and socialising and living without alcohol is great.
Flowers for me, fellow alcoholics and all the lovely mumsnetters who supported me on the journey.

Etinox · 06/07/2023 12:25

It was hard to find this thread- I lose track of the years!

I’m the OP 🥰
Still sober, still got both parents and still not menopausal. Darling dog died last year, but apart from that life is good. I can’t remember the exact phrase but it’s something about showing up for your life and that’s how it is for me af- good or bad I’m here and present. And that’s a wonderful thing.

FlowersandBrew for all the still suffering alcoholics still out there.

Etinox · 06/07/2023 15:21

And although it’s a day at a time- which means today is the only day that matters- I looked up how long I’ve been sober…
4930 days!

mamakoukla · 07/07/2023 03:21

Here and present; congrats! Thank you for updating. Sorry to hear about the dear dog 💐 you are amazing; keep shining that bright light. Much love

GarlicGrace · 07/07/2023 03:48

This is a fantastic thread. I'm so happy for you all. Well done, and thank you for your updates! 🤗⭐⭐⭐

Lamelie · 07/07/2024 18:37

Well hello! Another year, another name change but still sober. Incredibly happy.
I’m now semi v early retired and spend half my time here! Breathtakingly beautiful and a half hour drive from the nearest shop- much longer to a Dr, it’s air ambulance territory! Not that I need any reason to stay sober, it’s second nature now, albeit a daily reprieve.
A brief recap for anyone who stumbles on this anew. Sobriety is joyful, I’ve made some wonderful friends and retained my family marriage, friends and job. I couldn’t have done it alone- AA is fantastic and it works.
☕️ ❤️

I've changed!!
BestIsWest · 07/07/2024 20:00

❤Well done. Love your annual updates.

mamakoukla · 09/07/2024 16:35

@Lamelie love your annual update and to hear life is good. Sending enormous hugs and enjoy the great outdoors

Etinox · 06/07/2025 07:00

Well hello!!
Another joyful year Brew 🥰
Took old dog on a long walk yesterday, cooked up a storm, still not menopausal and still got my lovely parents (the thought of facing bereavement and menopause drunk was a big motivator 16 years ago!)
I guiltily don’t go to AA these days, but follow the principals and still have friends from this days when that incredible organisation saved me.
