not surehow I actually did it, but I hope think i've name changed. I'm off to first AA meeting tomorrow. A few days of sobriety last week made me face up to the fact that I've been drunk now for at least a year. I've already booked a taxi, any other words of wisdom?

Here I am again; I could post exactly the same as I did last year!

It sounds boring, but it isn't. Life is stable, not boring and I'm checking in to say thank you to the posters on this thread three years ago and the Brave Babes.

Housewifefromheaven · 10/07/2012 22:12

That is brilliant. Well done :o

Peggotty · 10/07/2012 22:20

Well done. 3 years is an amazing achievement and you should be so proud of yourself. I bet your life is so much better than when you were drinking. Smile

Seriouslyffs · 15/07/2014 21:52

Tut!!
I missed last year. Helpmenow here, still sober- 4 and a half years on. I've name changed since, obviously, but still think of that sad post 5 years ago- it really was the beginning of my 'ascent from alcoholism'
There really is light at the end of the tunnel, anyone who's struggling. Post on Mumsnet, there's brave babes and dry threads. Talk, try AA (it worked for me) -there is a solution.

Seriouslyffs · 22/07/2015 05:40

Hello again! Still here and still sober.Grin
As an unexciting but revealing example of how different my life is, I'm only awake so early because I left a door open! Before I stopped drinking I was often awake or sleepless at random hours and had been for years- either hangover, drinking or anxious. It's one of the many many ways my life is a squillion times better. For anyone who wants to stop, or needs to, or is frightened to there is wonderful AA, and here Brave Babes and Dry.
It really is possible Flowers

Seriouslyffs · 22/07/2015 05:42

^^ a bedroom door and the light came in- not outside door in a drunken stupor obvs! Grin

Bunbaker · 22/07/2015 08:21

Your yearly updates are so inspirational. Well done. I'm so glad you stopped the carnage before it was too late.

Unfortunately BIL didn't and is now a shambling wreck because his liver and brain are so damaged.

WillAndDisgrace · 06/04/2016 09:07

TroysMammy · 13/07/2016 16:57

Wishing you lots of luck. My DP went to AA occasionally for a year and he never spoke at a meeting. He listened a lot though. Don't feel obliged to share if you don't want to.

My DP has been alcohol free just over a year, I don't drink so he has found it a bit easier.

I used to mark on a chart I had made how many alcohol free days he had to days he was drunk. When he was ready to stop completely we then moved on to a small whiteboard in the kitchen which I wrote "today is day 1" then each day the number changed. When he hit day 10 he was really determined for it not to show day 1 again. Fair play day 366 (leap year) has come and gone. Today the whiteboard shows 1 year, 1 month, 1 week and 4 days. I'm really proud of him and he is proud of himself.

ApocalypseSlough · 13/07/2016 17:23

Aw thanks Troy
It's been so long now that it really is the new normal and I lose track of the time, in fact a few years ago I forgot to update this thread Wink
And I definitely couldn't have done it without AA.

Dawnedlightly · 07/07/2017 22:19

Etino · 11/07/2018 18:27

Well hello everyone! Still here, still name changing 😉
Another sober year, thank you Mumsnet and AA, I think some of the early posters are still around.
It really is doable, I’m just settling down to watch the football and remembering in the very early days of my sobriety talking to my Dad about how he’d watched the 1966 final with a cup of tea and thinking some people are just wired differently. I’m certainly wired differently now I’m often around alcohol, but would no sooner pick up a drink than chew on pebbles. Have a lovely evening everyone, and if you’re worried about your drinking, reach out- there really is help out there.

Callico · 08/09/2018 20:34

Ah well done, Another year gone by. You are an inspiration. Xx
