Wake Pea Up Before you Goji - 10/10 thread

For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Am intrigued about frijomole, pointy

mollyroger · 21/06/2009 20:41

Guad at festival and lol at being the antisocial buggers who keep everyone awake!

We have been to a medieval fair and seen millions of friends and it was sunny which was nice.

We supposed to go to a mini fest yesterday but we havn't got the bongo at the moment so we had no room in stupid ugly hire car, and dh was all dithery because weather forecast was bad so we didn't go and the weather was lovely

Have also squeezed in allotment visit, baking bilberry and blackberry muffins, made an flabtastic roast with a million veg.

Papillon! {{hugs}}

SB - I am very proud as I am still happily non-smoking, despite stresses

TooTicky · 21/06/2009 21:05

Is anybody in touch with Sauerkraut?

Hello to everybody. I'm not posting much because I'm a bit crap atm but am lurking a bit and thinking of you all xx

oh i am ok yes thank you FK
sorry was just feeling negative earlier but i am fine
am going to have early night

SuperBunny · 22/06/2009 02:22

Well done Molly!

Oh FK, the pool things sounds scary. My DS would've complained mightily too! I was once in a pool and we were all ordered to get out so that the life guard could fish a floating poo out of it.

I went singing today and made 2 people cry (not by singing!). Both men. Was most odd. And then my friend made an announcement that "SuperBunny is leaving us and we'll miss her and it's been wonderful having her here etc" and I said "Yes, but I'll sing in England" and then there was an uncomfotable silence before we moved on to other business. It only occurred to me afterwards that I was probably meant to do a little thank you speech or something I'm crap at social stuff and need someone to tell me exactly what to do and when.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 22/06/2009 08:18

Hurrah for bathing the boys Franny

And another hurrah for Moll for keeping off the fags

Pimms is a spirit based (gin I think) drink that is sort of spicy (but in a good way) and you can dilute it with lemonade, soda water or tonic. Then you bung loads of ice, strawberries, apple, lemon, orange and some put mint in it. I guess it's like a punch base really. It is DIVINE.

I wondered where you had been Toot. Hope you are ok {{{hugs}}}

FrannyandZooey · 22/06/2009 08:30

lol at "yes but i'll sing in england"
i never say the right thing either

pinkspottywellies · 22/06/2009 08:47

Hurrahs and lols with Franny and Lemur.

Up at 12, 3 and 5am. 4 month growth spurt?

Raisins and apple juice so far. No idea what I'm cooking for dinner. I'd been really organised with my meal plans until holiday. Now that and the washing has all fallen apart and I'm this close to freaking out.

Urgh I've just realised I have ds puke on my jeans. Going out in a minute. Better get the dc dressed.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 22/06/2009 09:52

the 16 week growth spurt. I remember that It was over Christmas and NY and ds fed like an ANIMAL. Stick with it Pink. Drink lots, eat lots, rest when you can and feed, feed, feed during the day so ds can tank up for the nights (although that doesn't often work during growth spurts, but it's worth a try!)

Don't freak out. You've got lots of extra work to do with the growth spurt. Enlist dh to do the cooking and washing.

Today I have made a veg pasta sauce for Baby Lemur (toms, onion, garlic, sweet pot, brocolli, peas, squah and courgettes), prepared dinner for tonight, and prepared some sweet pot wedges for lunch.

Some days I am ON FIRE, but then tomorrow I'll be back to my lazy slutty ways

womblingalong · 22/06/2009 10:07

Hello veggers, I have missed you all, and have skimmed thread, so am still of meet up, sounds like loads of fun. I have started new job! Have compromised on 3 days to start, up to 4 in August, and have managed to do big negotiation, and got them to significantly up the salary. Had handover last week, and am starting properly tomorrow.

I am a twit though, managed to get a new work pass on Thursday morning, amnd managed to lose it about an hour later.

SB fingers crossed for Thursday, yes, we must do another meet up soon, to meet you two.

Pink, hang on in there, you are doing amazingly.

Waves to you all

p.s raisins, dates, dried pineapple.

TigerFeet · 22/06/2009 12:42

Hi all, haven't been online for a while, i am so knackered of an evening I tend to fall asleep on the sofa and then haul ass to bed around 9.30 . Rubbish. I've been up since 5 though, I couldn't get back to sleep.

F&V has been decidedly crap without you lot watching over my shoulder, I need to log on at least once a day to keep on the straight and narrow.

Wombling, sounds like you have done very well re work, hope it all works out

@ Thetford Forest and festy going.

The best I can tell you about today is that I will do lots of walking and I have eaten jaffa cakes and a bacon butty. Time to go strawberry picking again methinks

Guadalupe · 22/06/2009 13:23

ROFL at 'I'll sing in England'. I wave wildly between between very sociable and saying mostly all the right things to being the complete opposite. When I am in hermit mode and mumbling I go home and think why did I/didn't I say that. You have to let it go I think.

If you feel that bad I might send an email or a card and say you were overwhelmed at the time but you are grateful and will miss them all or something.

I am worried about what Sophable says about toxic salmon on the fish thread. I eat a lot of it. There's always something to worry about though isn't there?

Berry crumble
Bolied Egg.

Guadalupe · 22/06/2009 13:25

oh bugger me, it's going now. Lets see what they have to say about it

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 22/06/2009 14:04

I read the fish thread too. Was shocked by what Sophable said too.

Guadalupe · 22/06/2009 14:36

Well, we all know farmed salmon isn't great, but I hadn't thought it was that bad. And all he said in response was that farmed fish is goos for you because of omegas. Hmm. Then again, there seems to be something wrong with most fish that isn't wild and line caught and even then they are in danger of being polluted but the neon ones.

The line caught, wild, sustainable and singing in the breeze fish are very expensive though aren't they. Same old problem.

Chickpea salad. I said to dh, 'this chickpea salad is so delicious I could marry it', and he actually looked put out. Fool.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 22/06/2009 15:50

I eat fish about once a month as I'm not a fan of it, but I make it for Baby Lemur and after what I've read I'm a bit I will have to have a rethink about what I buy him.

You're a film buff aren't you Guad? Have you seen Into the Wild? We watched it last night and it's been on my mind a lot today. I'm not sure if the guy done the right thing 'going into the wild' or if it was just a silly waste. I keep having an internal argument about it.

I wouldn't marry chickpea salad, but I would become Mrs Banana and Peanut Butter on Toast, if he asked

ahundredtimes · 22/06/2009 16:11

I HAVE to tell you, because I HAVE to tell someone - that a bloody pigeon flew in through the back door. Into MY house. And was in the room next to my cupboard, and so I shoved the dog out the cupboard and closed the door. When it flew in, this pigeon had the wing span of an eagle, and it was flapping and its gimlet eye was looking RIGHT AT ME.

Well. Then I opened the cupboard door a crack, and JJ was staring at it, like a fule. Then he looked at me, and wagged his tail and yawned. Useless. Then I closed the door again. Then there was no more flapping. So I opened the door, the coast was clear. JJ came back in and sighed and fell asleep under the desk.

Then about half an hour later, I was walking back into the cupboard - and there was flapping BEHIND the piano.

I called dh. I stood in the hall and called instructions. DH stood with a broom saying 'Hello pigeon. Are you there? What are you doing?'

'What are you doing behind the piano?' he asked again.

DEAR GOD.

Anyway, in the end, he coaxed the pigeon out, and persuaded it out of the back door. Do you think it'll come back again?

Thank you. I feel better for writing all that down. Much better. Was a trauma.

ahundredtimes · 22/06/2009 16:13

LOL at 'but I'll sing in England too'. I might have to nick that SB, sorry. Is like my once asking dh to make dcs, aged about 4, 2 and months old, to make toast, he said 'but I don't like toast.'

FrayedKnot · 22/06/2009 16:16

It's mango season

Remember last year my friend from work kept bringing boxes of them in for us?

Well I had my first today

I haven;t read yet about fish but I will. I eat salmon maybe once a month and tuna a couple of times. DS likes tuna. Other than that we don;t eat much other because I don;t like it. DH grumbles but I have a problem with bones.

FrayedKnot · 22/06/2009 16:19

Oh dear @ flappy pigeon

Guadalupe · 22/06/2009 16:20

I am not a film buff. Bugsy Malone was my favourite for years.

I have seen Into the Wild, yes. I think we discussed it on here briefly. I had the same turmoil as you really. I admired him but it seemed so stupid and I find the end unbelievable frustrating.

Watch The Edge with Anthony Hopkins instead. Same kind of scenery/thrills but there are lots of bears and it's a bit crap and the goodies win.

We are having prawn, spinach and mint rissoto for dinner. I wanted only green veg for our livers but dh will moan so there are prawns. God knows what the fishing ethics around those are.

Guadalupe · 22/06/2009 16:21

Ooh, a bird in your house is a bad omen, 100x. Be watchful in your waking life.

Guadalupe · 22/06/2009 16:22

Well, I think once a month is fine. I have been eating it twice a week or more.

pointydog · 22/06/2009 17:24

congrats on job, wombling - sound slike an alright deal what you have struck.

Pimms sounds rather nice. I might try it. Maybe on my hols, on a sunny evening.

Bunny, I bet they were waiting for your tearful farewell, telling them all how much you would miss them. Send them a cd of you singing in eNGLAND, that'll really have them stumped.

Pigeon experience does not sound good. I found it stressful eneough trying to round up a racing pigeon in my garden once, never mind in my living room.

What do you put in a chickpea salad, guad? I do love delia's frijimole. It is like guacamole made with chickpeas, big swirl of soured cream through it.

mollyroger · 22/06/2009 17:37

god my children love salmon
