Wake Pea Up Before you Goji - 10/10 thread

For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

surrounded by mugs? no i don't
do you?

next door's little ds made me laugh today telling me earnestly "ds1 and i have been playing a very good game and we were SUWWOUNDED (surrounded) by bees!"

FrannyandZooey · 18/06/2009 18:42

oh dear more trampoline fandangoes
this trampoline rules my life atm
there was welly chucking and shouting and all sorts

sorry i am very chatty tonight

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 18/06/2009 19:06

Wow, people really have mug issues don't they I think everybody needs to just CALM DOWN. As long as the mug is clean and the tea isn't too strong, then I'm happy

I gave blood today, I feel a bit waff. In hindsight it probably wasn't a good idea because of my low iron count a few months ago, but stocks are low and it's the first time I've been able to donate since being pg.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 18/06/2009 19:08

Oh yes, and here's my list:

blueberries
banana
cucumber
humous
carrots x2
cauliflower x2
runner beans
grapes

FrannyandZooey · 18/06/2009 19:10

lemur did you stop bf?

FrannyandZooey · 18/06/2009 19:11

just realised that could sound as if am about to tick you off but am not! just being nosy

ahundredtimes · 18/06/2009 19:13

mug fraeks

I thought that thread was interesting Fra, but now has ended up as a national stereotype slanging match.

I strongly suspect that HC will drink her tea out of any old mug, or bucket, or old tin can. It's just that Fra can't bear to share her mugs.

Also, why doesn't ds1 go to bed later? The glory of your life must be that he can get up later too. Trampoline problem solved. Or not? I have no idea why I am suggesting this as ds1 has always fallen asleep quickly and got up early. I just like to think it isn't like this for other people.

DS1 has new glasses. They are v. cool.

Ooh I am chatty too.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 18/06/2009 19:20

No I haven't stopped. Can't you give blood when bf'ing??

What are ds1 new glasses like? I need to get some new ones.

FrannyandZooey · 18/06/2009 19:23

100 he wakes up at roughly 5.50 am regardless of what time he is put to bed [tight lipped]

FrannyandZooey · 18/06/2009 19:25

lemur i didn't think you could
but surely they would ask you?
maybe i am wrong?
i felt uncomfortable after i asked because it sounded like i was interrogating you, but it just surprised me you hadn't mentioned it, and i thought you must have given up to be giving blood

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 18/06/2009 19:27

Just had a mini panic with giving blood. Phoned sis and she confirmed ok. Just need to drink extra and have a good meal tonight.

The boy woke at 5.45 today (normaly wakes at 6.30) I told him quite firmly anytime with a five at the beginning is NOT GOOD.

ahundredtimes · 18/06/2009 19:28

They are brown plastic ones, like NHS used to make for free. Except these are french and cost £. He does look var cool in them, he is thrilled. And you can see his eyes - which are divinely blue and twinkle - whereas he used to squint them up before because the wire engineer stylee glasses slipped a lot. Also when in the opticians two girls from school came in and gabbled at him, and he stood there, waiting for them to look at his excellent glasses, but they didn't. Then they shouted 'bye' and ran off. He turned to me and optician and said 'I never can keep up with what they say'.

Yes. ds1 the same Fra. [tight smile too] WHEREAS dd a nightmare at the minute. I have decided it is developmental. ds2 was the same. When she is Y3, hey presto, the girl will sleep.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 18/06/2009 19:30

Yes, I could feel you shining a light in my eyes when you asked me if I had given up

FrannyandZooey · 18/06/2009 19:30

have googled and found:

Blood Donation

There are conflicting opinions about donating blood while breastfeeding. The US Red Cross okays blood donation for nursing moms after 6 weeks postpartum. Donating blood causes a small loss of blood volume (and therefore a loss of fluid), so there is a theoretical possibility for a short-term temporary reduction in milk supply. Moms with vulnerable supplies may want to avoid donation. In general, women who are not pregnant, have good iron levels (that will be tested before donation), are not taking antibiotics, and are at least 100 pounds are good candidates for blood donation.

www.llli.org//FAQ/blood.html
Can a Lactating Woman Donate Blood?

Whether to donate blood is a decision that is best left up to the individual. Opinions vary as to whether it is a good idea. The American Red Cross says this about potential donors, on their web page at www.redcross.org/services/biomed/...

  • defer while pregnant
  • defer 6 weeks after uncomplicated third trimester or term delivery or cesarean section
  • defer 12 months if delivery required a blood transfusion
  • accept nursing mothers

La Leche League's sources differ in their opinions on blood donation for breastfeeding mothers. Dr. Gregory White does not recommend it. Dr. Jack Newman says any otherwise eligible mother who is not anemic can donate blood. The Canadian Blood Service (a division of the Red Cross) asks breastfeeding mothers to wait six months before donating blood. LLL recommends that mothers consult their own physicians and make an informed choice.

If a breastfeeding mother chooses to donate blood, she needs to be very careful to stay hydrated. Human milk is 87% water, and a blood donation takes 16 ounces of blood from the body. This is a lot of liquid to replace. All blood donors are cautioned to eat a substantial meal before donating blood and drink large quantities of water afterward. After a donation, donors are advised to avoid heavy lifting with the arm used to donate (to prevent excessive bruising). This may be a consideration for mothers who may not be able to avoid lifting and carrying their babies or older children."

god imagine giving blood 6 weeks after having a baby!
anyway i was wrong it seems
will get myself along there at some point

Guadalupe · 18/06/2009 19:31

None of mine seem to be asleep before 10pm atm. And I don't seem to be in bed before midnight. I would like to alter this by a couple of hours.

FrannyandZooey · 18/06/2009 19:31

sorry i worried you lemur
i just thought they wouldn't take it
i wonder if they have changed the rules? i have not given for years and years due to being bf or pg

FrannyandZooey · 18/06/2009 19:32

100 ds1 does not drop off easily
he takes blimming ages
but getting him in bed at a reasonable time considering he will be up at 6 am is the best i can do it seems

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 18/06/2009 19:34

I tried some brown plastic NHS looking jobbies on last week and I really liked them. It was a choice between the Ray-ban or Oakley frames. I had some wire engineer stylee ones a few years ago and they done my mash in. The frames (well the bridge and arms) were too light for my lenses and they just never sat right on my nose or face.

FrannyandZooey · 18/06/2009 19:40

"they done my mash in"
heh

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 18/06/2009 19:40

Yes EVERYONE MUST GIVE BLOOD

Stocks are low at the moment and it will get worse over the summer due to people going away on their hols.

I have given blood since I was 17, but since ds1 had a massive amount of blood and blood products it means so much more to me.

FrannyandZooey · 18/06/2009 19:40

i can;t wear trendy glasses
they look silly

FrannyandZooey · 18/06/2009 19:41

will do lemur
promise

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 18/06/2009 19:41

My Essex roots came creeping out there

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 18/06/2009 19:42

Of course you can wear trendy glasses, you just have to find the right style.

ahundredtimes · 18/06/2009 19:46

I've worn all kinds of glasses, except those rather stylish rimless ones - the architect glasses - they look super silly on me.

Do you what Franny, I actually said to dd the other night, 'this is crazy. I am going to ask my friend to send her weirdo relaxation tapes for you'

I DID!

She said, 'weirdo in what way?'

'I don't know. Rushing water, maybe whales and someone saying y o u a r e v e r y s l e e p y'

'I must have them' she said, 'they sound SCARY'
