Guava Guava Guava Hey! Over The dill With The Strawbs Of A Thousand Men - 10/10 thread

For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Oh dear, I'm going to have to raid the cupboards for some more f&v. However the shopping is delivered tomorrow so they're a bit bare at the mo.

LR, my mil planted out loads of stuff last weekend and then overnight pigeons had eaten and pulled all the plants up, so she had to take another trip to the nursery.

I felt very frivilous doing naff all for 45 minutes, but it was lovely.

Hello ReallyReally, who did you used to be? The name Cappy rings a bell

Boco · 01/06/2009 19:14

It's much easier to get ten when it's like this isn't it. Have eaten lots of leaves and things, and fruit, just loads.

Hello reallyreally, I didn't know you were you, how are you? Are you feeling better?

my mum said a fortnight ago she would look after ds1 for me while i was working - now she has changed her mind aaaaaaargh
"will it be hard to find someone else to do it?"
well it'll be a lot harder NOW than it would have been two weeks ago yes

littlerach · 01/06/2009 19:53

What a pain, Fran.

I have heyfever.
I look rather terrible.
Puffy eyes and runny nose.

FrannyandZooey · 01/06/2009 20:02

ds1 is meant to be asleep
he has just shouted down that he has counted his fingers and toes and there are 21
i can't tell if he is worried or proud

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 01/06/2009 20:15

Parents, huh? They have a lot to answer for. And yes I am aware that I am a parent too, and yes it worries me that my children will say the same thing!

lol at 21 digits!

FrayedKnot · 01/06/2009 20:52

Is the extra digit a finger or a toe, Franny?

FrannyandZooey · 01/06/2009 20:53

i didn't enquire
he usually misses out 13 when he counts so that would explain it

TheMitsubishiWarrioress · 01/06/2009 20:54

Frany..I dreamt that your DS1 was singing at the natural history museum and I bought him to you in a funny little car. I wanted to tell you he had been sick but you wanted to talk to me about a goat, and Imelda staunton was having a cup of tea at your kitchen table which was covered in very neatly folded terry nappies....hundreds of them!!

FrannyandZooey · 01/06/2009 20:56

doesn't really begin to cover that MW

I am reading a HTT thread from 2007, is very funny.

100 you are on it and Boco.

I have an ishoo with DS eating sweets / icecreams at his friend's house.

Friend lives a few doors down and he & DS often play outside or in our garden or friend's garden. The trouble is, the friend often has sweets (seemingly most days after school) and lately, icecreams. He offers them to DS when he is there and although I remind DS he is not supposed to have them, I dn;t think at 5 he probably has teh willpower to refuse.

OTOH I would feel mean not allowing him to go to the friends house at all. I could mention it to the friend's parents but how do I do it without it sounding like I am judging them for allowing their son to eat crap all the time?

TigerFeet · 01/06/2009 21:24

Hello veggerers and a wave to ReallyReally

I'm loving the weather. I have been busy in the garden and doing much washing [50's housewife]

Not eating much f&v although I am peckish so will probably munch on some salad in a bit

How is everyone?

My daughter is also being a pita atm... I am assuming it's to do with the impending dd2. She doesn't do change. Eek.

FrayedKnot · 01/06/2009 21:38

Hello Tiger

When are you due? I have forgotten, sorry

pinkspottywellies · 01/06/2009 21:50

I put on 5lb last week Think it was cause my f&v intake was so poor. Gonna get back on track this week

TigerFeet · 01/06/2009 21:51

Hiya Frayed

Due in September... 15 weeksish to go

Tricky one about ds and the sweets. The ice cream van comes round here daily and a couple of the local kids seem to get an ice cream every day. DD is allowed one on a Sunday. She thinks I'm a big meany . How old is ds's friend? Could you have a word with him and tell him that your ds isn't allowed to eat sweets? I would be too chicken to approach the parents, being fond of confrontation avoidance.

FrannyandZooey · 01/06/2009 22:06

you could say "could ds not have sweets please as he has small appetite and won't eat his tea"
but in all likelihood, you'll probably have to compromise on it to some extent if ds is going to go on playing with him - the parents aren't going to want to deprive their ds of a treat because yours isn't allowed it
(and of course you may see it that the benefit of having a good friend to play with outweighs the disadvantage of some crap food)

are there some things that ds is allowed that he could take round as a treat? eg home made cakes, grapes / strawberries are usually popular, home made ice lollies from yogurt or fruit juice?

TigerFeet · 01/06/2009 22:08

Ahhhh, you see, I knew someone would be along with sensible advice. THe smart money was on Fran or 100x
