I have a slight problem if there's anyone around who knows about renal conditions.

I have had pain for a couple of days, I went to the GP yesterday and he sent me for an abdo X-Ray and an urgent ultrasound (which can't be done until Thursday). The urine sample I took in was clear (looked very thick to me), however, I'm drinking but very little is coming out IYKWIM. My eyes feel like they are going to pop out, I have no fever, just lots of pain. What else can I do bar phoning NHS redirect?

TIA.

Did he just dip test your pee or is he going to send it to see if anything grows in it, (by the time that is done any infection will have passed though)
I would call NHS direct, also lots of water, barley water or cranberry juice, nothing acid, no tea or coffee, a hot water bottle and a couple of paracetamol could also help.

Kimi · 07/02/2009 21:20

Sorry to ask but does it hurt when you pee? and are you just peeing little amounts despite feeling like you really need to go?

scrooged · 07/02/2009 21:23

It doesn't hurt to pee, the pain is constant now but was moving. he did a dip test and sent it off. I'm taking painkillers but input is alot more than output, which is very odd. It was really cloudy before I did the sample but not when I did the sample. It's not cloudy now but there's only a bit coming out.

Thanks

Sounds like cystitis at best and a U.T.I or kidney stone at worse. Do not use soap or anything smelly, put on large cotton pants and drink as much water as you can to flush out.

I would also call NHS direct and go back to your Dr as soon as you can.

wrinklytum · 07/02/2009 21:28

How much in and how much are you passing out?

Roughly?

Do you have any leg swelling or breathlessness?

If it is renal colic this can be VERY painful.

What painkillers are you on?

Tiggiwinkle · 07/02/2009 21:29

If your urine output is low it sounds more than just cystitis; I would ring NHS direct now if I were you.

WobblyPig · 07/02/2009 21:31

When you say you are not passing urine. Do you mean not as much as you think you should or do you mean very little as in less than 500ml/day? If you really are passing very little urine despite drinking a lot, advice to drink more is dangerous and you need to go to A + E .

Where is the pain?

scrooged · 07/02/2009 21:32

He gave me some cocodamol. I'm drinking about mug full of water (200ml?) an hour (ish), a quarter(ish) of this is coming out but not every hour, 3 times today. No breathlesness, no leg swelling, a bit of cystitis just blurred vision and feeling rather dizzy.

Can you get to your OOH? OR a+e?

Would advise this given the info you have given.

scrooged · 07/02/2009 21:34

Pain is everywhere, both sides, front and back, right side above my bladder. It's all very tender too.

Definetly not as much as normal. It's very thick aswell.

I can't go to A&E, ds is here and there's no one to look after him.

Kimi · 07/02/2009 21:34

I really would call NHS direct o go to the nearest walk in centre of A and E.
Vision problems and dizzy and not common with cystitis or U.T.Is

Kimi · 07/02/2009 21:36

cocodamol is very good as a rule and if you are still in pain after taking it then something is very not right. Is there anyone who can look after your child? Friend, family, where are you is there a mumsnetter near by who might be able to help?

Tiggiwinkle · 07/02/2009 21:37

Once again, get some advice or go to A and E. Your GP would not have requested the tests urgently if he had not been concerned and your symptoms suggest it could be something requiring urgent treatment.

scrooged · 07/02/2009 21:37

It felt abit like a stone on Thursday evening, I told him it felt as if it had stopped, they did the x-ray yesterday and said that nothing had showed up. They can't do the ultrasound until thursday. It does feel like I need to go to the loo but hardly anything comes out. (sorry, TMI)

Can you call out the GP/ or cover Doc for home visit?

Flightattendant12 · 07/02/2009 21:38

Can you take him with you, how big is he? They will take care of him while you're being seen.

scrooged · 07/02/2009 21:39

He's not long gone to bed so I can wake him. He's 9 so not a baby.

I did tell the GP yesterday that not alot was coming out. He didn't say anything.

Agree with the others, I suffer with kidney stones and if it gets bad you won't be able to look after your ds anyway. Get yourself to A&E. Where are you, can any of us help?

Tiggiwinkle · 07/02/2009 21:40

Ring NHS direct. They will arrange for you to be seen if they feel it necessary. You will have to take DS with you I'm afraid.

scrooged · 07/02/2009 21:40

They hate coming out round here. I've no fever, don't feel particualy ill so I'm not sure if they will.

I'm in Derby

OP posts:
Kimi · 07/02/2009 21:42

The fact you feel you really need to go but little is coming out does sound like cystitis but the cocodamol should have delt with the pain.
Dizzy and bad vision is a worry, have you taken more pain meds then you should have?

Kimi · 07/02/2009 21:43

I am too far away to help I am afraid, Anyone nearby?? Anyone know any derby mumsnetters?

Flightattendant12 · 07/02/2009 21:44

isn't there something about low urine output and blood pressure making your vision funny - that's pre eclampsia isn't it? You're not pg though?

scrooged · 07/02/2009 21:46

No, I've only taken 2 all day. I'm the 'put up and suffer' type so will only take something when I really have to. It doesn't hurt too much, more tender. There's a bit more coming out, no blood, not cloudy but has little crystal type stuff in it. Very odd!

I'm just a hypochondriac!
