For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Oh Franny,

That sounds like good advice.

Poor woman at your group, can/would you like to make friends with her? Or is it a group you run?

FrannyandZooey · 11/02/2009 17:52

Polly yes i am smug lucky mother whose ds will eat all f+v
in fact he would eat more or less JUST f+
v given the chance and has to be nagged a bit to eat carbs etc
very much hope ds2 will be the same but realise unlikely twice

I have done the going up to someone because I liked the look of them thing. I had seen a girl around when I first moved here and she looked friendly and interesting so in the park I kept trying to make ds1 go and play with her ds but he wouldn't, so I said my ds really wants to play with your ds but he's shy.

He was glaring at me and saying no but I kept on with a fixed grin and a push and said, there there, don't be shy, ds.

He wouldn't but we started chatting and that was that. We are the best of friends now. I confessed this over dinner once and we were in hysterics. Funny thing is the dses have never really got on.

Lullabyloo · 11/02/2009 18:13

Awwwww MamaG..
I moved when pg with ds & left all old friends behind,I was terribly bad at socialising & going to groups so I sympathise greatly.

stuffit, that sounds such a blinking pain

ds had a bad night, combination of shouty nightmares & coughing fits. Was crummy again at school, didn't eat his lunch & went out to play 5 mins before bell rang & then refused to go back to class.
They carried him in
We had words
I am not a happy bunny.

Guadalupe · 11/02/2009 18:27

What was the outcome of having words, Lully?

FrayedKnot · 11/02/2009 18:46

To recap...

Blueberries
Satsumas
Large portion veg & lentil curry
Salad leaves
Carrot
Celery
Pepper
Cucumber

About 8

It's my exercise day off, I have a note, look

Lully the school sounds a bit odd tbh...what are your options for changing him to somehwere else?

littlerach · 11/02/2009 18:46

MamaG, do you go to much with ds?

And I agree, cake is an essential.

Sterilizing F&V seems odd and a PITA.

Muesli
Grapes
carrots
celery
pasnips (in soup)
Pear
red pepper
green pepper
sweetcorn
cannelini beans
tomaotes

Sticker please

WE had Epi pen training today. Made me feel v for mum and child involved, but glad I was trained ot help.

Um, do I need ot go to Yurt to ask questions about dd1, or can I do it here? Tis health related

FrayedKnot · 11/02/2009 18:48

When we moved, I spent 6 months not talking to any other living soul from the moment DH left for work until he came home.

I made myself go to one group but never really found anyone there who I clicked with. Most people already knew someone and it's very difficult to break into established groups.

I lived for MN though

mollyroger · 11/02/2009 18:51

I kidnapped my best friend off the street!
Well almost. She moved next door to me and I liked the look of her (after much covert spying) and one day she was struggling with the howling newborn and her toddler was playing up and I blurted insanely: ''would you like a cup of tea? And I have some clothes my boys have outgrown if you want to have a look...?''

That was 6 years ago and we haven't looked back since.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 11/02/2009 18:59

LittleRach, as you've been so good with your f&v, I'm sure your focus won't diminish if you post your question here

littlerach · 11/02/2009 19:28

Cheers Lemur

I spoke ot her teacher (parents eve) and mentioned concerns re her "clumsiness". her tecaher agreed and also agreed it could be a kind of dyspraxia.
But, not enough to warrant the school being too ocncerned, yet. She is the top of her year group academically, and also one of the top pupils in her class (mixed age). therefore, she is not suffering academically.

Dh would like ot ask GP for advice.
I suppose we should.
But I don't want to burden dd1 with this. She gets stressed enough.

Help!

TooTicky · 11/02/2009 19:34

Is it okay to make appt to see GP without taking dd? I mean, would that be frowned upon?
Am in similar situation.

OsmosisBanana · 11/02/2009 19:36

I just made mushroom and quorn stroganof. It was surprisingly good.

I have always been suspicious of stroganof, it reminds me of school slop. I am suspicious of mushrooms too. Weird slug like things.

I can always spot who I am going to end up being friends with. It generally starts with them disliking me intensely

I know about cell structure in animals. I zoned out 5 mins into the lecture and starting daydreaming about tactics that may bully DH into doing a job for me later but managed to figure out what was going on by the end of the seminar. Just about. Totally failed to scrape any cheek cells out of my mouth so had to use someone elses (nice).

Lorks, all of those sentences started with 'I'. Sorry bout dat.

Stuffit - I don't remember mum sterilising everything we ate in Pakistan but then my overiding memory of the whole 4 years is cycling round and around our car park thingy singing 'rockin all over the world' so it is possible it happened.

Guadalupe · 11/02/2009 19:37

I went without ds1 when I wanted to talk about his school anxiety and not sleeping. You have to do what's in their best interests and sometimes not hearing your concerns is best.

OsmosisBanana · 11/02/2009 19:38

I reckon you could go without taking DC. Even if it were frowned upon. Fuck 'em, your kids, your choice. But I think they would understand...

Guadalupe · 11/02/2009 19:39

I did your chilli halloumi again tonight, OB. I burnt the pitta bread though, I rang around some neighbours to no avail and in the end had it on salad with orange. Pomegranate would have been better but in its absence peeled orange segments worked very well.

TooTicky · 11/02/2009 19:41

um, what is good food for somebody who is quite run down and tired?

Guadalupe · 11/02/2009 19:44

Clear soups

fruit

cake quick filling snacks

oats

OsmosisBanana · 11/02/2009 19:45

Iron related produce TooT.

Apricots v good. Also up your vit C as helpful in iron absorption. Although you prob already get more than enough vit C....

Maybe some nuts. Specifically almonds and brazil.

Ah chilli halloumi pitta... I luvz it.

Maybe we shall have that tomorrow..... Oh no, tis pasta n erbs n stuff before all the stupidly expensive and norty herbs I have bought go all slimy and limp.

TooTicky · 11/02/2009 19:45

Right, okay.
Thanks.

OsmosisBanana · 11/02/2009 19:46

I have been tormenting myself with looking at jobs for nutritionists / dieticians. It seems I shall have to move to north wales. [argh emoticon]

OsmosisBanana · 11/02/2009 19:47

I mean dried apricots

pinkspottywellies · 11/02/2009 19:48

I agree about seeing GP without child. T'is fine.

Franny I think BBB is right about friend.

I lolled at a few things when I read through but have forgotten now cause I've been on the phone. But you're a funny lot

About 5 portions I think today. Maybe 6.

Polly, how old are your dcs? DD is 2 and eats pretty much the same meals as us. Sometimes astonishing amounts!! Usually likes all her veg and fruit. Bit funny about some sauces.

Can't remember what else is going on. Hope the flooding doesn't get anyone. We live high on a hill so don't usually worry about such things but do get worst of the snow!

Guadalupe · 11/02/2009 19:49

North Wales would be nice. They don't even do dietetics degrees at UEA. Obviously everyone here is so healthy. Hmm.

Toot - I had stewed dried fruit last night, figs, apricots, and dates. It was really nice with plain yoghurt.

pinkspottywellies · 11/02/2009 19:51

Spatone TooT
